The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Art Centre will launch the festival on 7 August with a concert by Medhat Saleh.
The festival will continue until 31 August, with rich programming featuring music, film screenings, theatre plays, workshops, and seminars.

Hamza Namira, Hisham Kharma - music

The double bill features two well-known Egyptian musicians: Hamza Namira and Hisham Kharma.
Namira's musical journey started during his teenage years when he began playing guitar, keyboard, and oud.
His unique style, which meanders across genres such as light rock, jazz, Latin music, and above all, Arab music, has made him more accessible to Western audiences and the subject of a dedicated fan base.
Composer Kharma began performing live music concerts in 2016.
Accompanied by a grand orchestra, Kharma performed in major events in notable locations, such as at the feet of the pyramids, the Cairo Citadel, and the London Mansion House.
He also created the theme music for numerous important national events and across many Egyptian institutions.
Assala - music

Born in 1969 in Damascus, Assala is one of the Arab region's biggest stars. Her large fan base spans across generations.
Throughout her career, she has released 30 albums and many singles, with countless compositions being the audience's favourites.

Mostafa Amar - music

Singer, composer, and actor Mostafa Amar rose to fame in the 1990s.
Amar released several popular albums in addition to starring in various films and TV series.
His most famous songs include Nar El-Hob (1998), Ghazali (2000), featuring Hamid El-Shaeri, and Habib Hayati (2001).

Saad is a well-known Egyptian singer famous for his emotional ballads.

He has been featured in a number of compositions created by the Egyptian-German ensemble Cairo Steps.
Sharmoofers, Massar Egbari, Hamid El-Shaeri - music

This triple bill brings together known Egyptian bands and a Libyan-Egyptian singer.
Sharmoofers is an Egyptian band known for their unique blend of music genres, including reggae and rock. The band was formed in 2012 and quickly gained popularity in the Egyptian music scene.
Founded in 2005, Massar Egbari has gained a large popularity in Egypt and beyond. Their lineup features Hani El-Dakkak on guitar and lead vocals, Ahmed Hafez on bass guitar, Tamer Attallah on drums, Ayman Massoud on keyboards, and Mahmoud Siam on guitar.
They regularly sell out concerts in Egypt and have also performed in the region and internationally.
El-Shaeri was born in Libya to an Egyptian mother and Libyan father. Then, he moved to Egypt in the early 1980s, where he began his musical career and released his debut album Ayonha in 1983.
This was followed by the critically acclaimed Raheel (1984), marking the beginning of his skyrocketing successes as he cemented his status as a key figure in the Arab music scene.
Tamer Ashour - music

Singer and composer Tamer Ashour came into the spotlight in the mid-2000s.
Ever since, he has released seven albums, establishing himself as one of the most popular performers in Egypt and the Arab world.
His breakthrough as a singer came with the release of his debut single Zekrayat Kedaba (Lying Memories) in 2006.
The song's success led Ashour to work on his first album, Saab (Difficult), released in 2007.
This was followed by consecutive albums, including Had Byheb (2008), Laya Nazra (2011), Esht Maak (2014), Khayali (2017), Ayam (2019), and Tegy Netrahen (2022).

Abu Shaar Brothers

Formed in 1983, the Abu Shaar Brothers (El Ekhwa Abu Shaar) from Syria began as a quartet presenting music and chants that praise the Prophet Mohammed.
At the time of formation, the youngest member of the band was just 11 years old. As the band's popularity grew, new generations subsequently joined the ensemble.
Soon, Abu Shaar Brothers became an internationally renowned Syrian Islamic nasheed group, whose music and lyrics focus on a religious repertoire.
They have more than 600,000 followers on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
The band currently reside in Egypt, where they hold many concerts.
Nabeel Shuail - music

Nabeel Shuail is a celebrated Kuwaiti singer renowned for his powerful voice and significant contributions to the Khaleeji music scene.
He began his musical career in the early 1980s, gaining widespread recognition with his debut album Sikat Safar in 1982.
Over the years, Shuail, affectionately known as the "Gulf Nightingale," has released over 26 albums.
His upcoming concert in Egypt is part of the Layali Marassi, a summer series providing performances of the best-known singers at the Beach Resort, Marassi. The concerts take place every Saturday until the end of August.

Egyptian actress Dalal Abdel-Aziz died four years ago today at the age of 61. She passed away due to complications of COVID-19 on 7 August 2021, just three months after the passing of her husband of 37 years, renowned comedian Samir Ghanem 1937-2021). The couple are survived by two daughters, actresses Donia and Amy. Abdel-Aziz was born on 17 January 1960 in Zagazig city in Sharqiya governorate. She graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University, before moving to Cairo, where she launched her career with director Nour El-Demerdash. She started with a small role in a TV series in 1977 before gaining critical acclaim in the 1980s for her outstanding performances in TV and film. She starred in tens of TV series, films and plays in a career that spanned more than four decades. In 1998, Abdel-Aziz was awarded Best Actress at the Television Awards Festival. Abdel-Aziz divided her time between theatre, television, and film. She starred in several plays, including Fares wa Bani Khaiban (Fares and the Losers, 1987), Akhouya Hayess wa Ana Layess (My Brother Is Happy and I'm Lost, 1992), and Hobb fil-Takhshibah. The latter Hobb Fil Takhshibah (Love in Prison, 1994) starring Hisham Abdel-Hamid, George Sidhom and Diaa Al-Merghany, directed by Samir Seif and written by Youssef Maati. Her cinematic career started to pick up in the 1980s, when she starred in Adel Sadek's Nehayet Ragol Tazawag (The End of a Man Who Was Married, 1983) starring Samir Ghanem, Poussy, Hala Fakher and Ali Al-Sherif. She went on to star in Yarab Walad (A Boy Child, Amen, 1984), Basamat Fawk Al-Maa (Prints on Top of Water), Al-Ragol Yoheb Martein (The Man Loves Twice, 1987), Al-Aghbiaa Al-Thalatha (The Three Idiots, 1990), among other titles. In the late years, she also appeared in TV series Lahfa (2015) alongside her daughters Donia and Amy Samir Ghanem, and was a guest of honor in TV series Nelly wi Sherihan (Nelly and Sherihan) again with her two daughters. MedFest Launches EGP 1.15 Million Grants for Arab Filmmakers
Now in its 7th edition, MedFest offers filmmakers the chance to win support for short films exploring health, psychology or human stories, with EGP 1.15 million in total grants on offer. Aug 07, 2025 MedFest has opened applications for its Script-to-Screen programme, offering grants totalling EGP 1,150,000 (approx. USD 23,700) to support short fiction films. The festival, held annually since 2017, focuses on films that explore physical and mental health, psychological themes, and broader human experiences. It is the first festival of its kind in the MENA region to explicitly connect cinema and public health discourse. This year's edition will take place from September 18th to 22nd at the American University in Cairo's Tahrir Square campus. Eligible projects must be in pre-production and feature an Arabic-language script. The story must focus on health, psychology, or emotional human themes. Submissions should not exceed 15 pages or 15 minutes of screen time. Filmmakers may apply for one or more grants across development, production, post-production, and distribution. Applicants must be teams made up of an Arab director and producer living in Egypt. The director must have completed at least one previous short film. Applications close on August 18th.
