Three Israeli settlers killed in suspected ramming attack near Tiberias

Al Bawaba09-07-2025
ALBAWABA- A suspected ramming operation near the northern Israeli city of Tiberias on Monday left three Israeli settlers dead and five others critically injured, according to Israeli ambulance services.
The Israeli police confirmed that the incident is under investigation to determine whether it was a deliberate attack or a traffic-related incident. The attack marks a significant escalation in tensions within Israeli territory as violence continues unabated in Gaza.
Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, Israeli airstrikes killed eight Palestinians, including two children and a fetus, in Khan Younis and Beach Camp.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the death toll from Israel's ongoing military offensive since October 7, 2023, has reached 57,680, with 137,409 others injured. The ministry continues to describe the situation as a genocide amid daily mass casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions.
In response to the Israeli raids, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced that its fighters had launched attacks on Israeli forces and vehicles in the Abasan al-Kabira area east of Khan Younis.
The group claimed to have targeted a Merkava tank, a troop carrier, and two military bulldozers using Al-Yasin 105 missiles. During the confrontation, a fighter reportedly advanced toward Israeli soldiers, killed one, seized his weapon, and observed a helicopter landing to evacuate Israeli casualties.
The group also said it struck a military excavator with two Israeli soldiers inside using an RPG and, on Saturday, detonated a powerful explosive device against a D9 bulldozer in Jabalia, northern Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry noted that just yesterday, 105 Palestinians were killed and over 370 injured, many of them children and displaced individuals seeking aid.
The rising toll on both sides underscores the rapidly deteriorating security and humanitarian situation as the conflict enters its tenth month with no signs of de-escalation.

JHCO says 26 trucks carrying emergency aid dispatched to Gaza

AMMAN — The Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), in direct coordination with the Jordanian Armed Forces -the Arab Army (JAF), said it dispatched 26 trucks carrying food supplies to the Gaza Strip as part of ongoing relief efforts to support the Palestinian people. The organisation said the convoy, which was supposed to be part of a larger flow of aid, faced obstacles on the ground, most notably repeated attacks by Israeli settlers while crossing the West Bank. Some trucks were delayed for hours, it said, adding that, despite sustained efforts, the number of aid trucks reaching the Gaza Strip has declined to fewer than 30 per day, compared to a previous average of 100 to 150. 'This further aggravates the humanitarian and health crisis facing civilians in the enclave,' JHCO said. Secretary-General of the JHCO Hussein Shibli condemned the ongoing 'systematic attacks' on humanitarian aid convoys, affirming that such actions will not deter the organisation from fulfilling its humanitarian duty toward the people of Gaza. He expressed concern over the significant decrease in the number of trucks reaching Gaza, attributing it to the obstacles imposed on the ground. He held the other side [Israel] 'fully responsible', noting that it continues to enforce a policy of siege and restrictions in clear violation of international and humanitarian law. Shibli stressed that Jordan under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, will continue to dispatch relief convoys despite all challenges, in full coordination with the JAF and partner organisations.

Newborn named Yahya Sinwar stirs backlash in German maternity ward

A maternity hospital in eastern Germany has issued an apology after publishing a list of newborns that included the name Yahya Sinwar, the same name as the late Hamas leader, prompting confusion online. University Hospital Leipzig, which shares daily updates on the first names of newborns on its obstetrics social media channel, included the name Yahya Sinwar in Monday's post. The name quickly sparked mixed reactions from some users due to its political associations. Screencap of University Hospital Leipzig's story displaying the name Yahya Sinwar on a chalkboard In an Instagram story addressing the controversy, the hospital's social media team stated, 'Today, like every day, we published the first names of newborns on our obstetrics channel." "A name was mentioned that currently has a political context and has caused irritation or incomprehension among some users," the statement continued." We would like to clarify: The first names are published exclusively at the request or with the consent of the parents, without evaluation or selection by us." The hospital added, "None of the names will be editorially commented on or politically classified. We understand that today's post has evoked negative associations in some people. We would like to expressly apologize if anyone felt hurt or provoked by the post." Yahya Sinwar, a senior leader of Hamas in Gaza, was killed in an 'Israeli' military operation in October 2024, nearly a year after the outbreak of the war on Gaza. His name remains highly politically charged.

Will Netanyahu fire the IDF chief over Gaza strategy standoff?

ALBAWABA- Tensions continue to escalate at the top of Israel's leadership as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushes for a complete military takeover of the Gaza Strip, a move strongly opposed by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. According to Haaretz, citing Israeli officials, Netanyahu is unlikely to dismiss Zamir, despite earlier threats, and may instead settle for a limited military operation to project toughness amid political pressure. The disagreement surfaced after reports revealed that Netanyahu told senior security officials that Zamir should resign if he could not support the proposed operation. In response, Zamir presented alternative plans focused on encirclement and targeted strikes, seeking to avoid the risks of a prolonged occupation. While Netanyahu seeks cabinet approval for his aggressive plan, aimed at dismantling Hamas and rescuing hostages, military officials warn that such a move would endanger troops and civilians alike. Critics inside the government believe that the talk of wholly occupying Gaza is a political tactic to pressure Hamas, not a concrete plan. Far-right ministers like Itamar Ben Gvir have publicly demanded that Zamir pledge unconditional loyalty to cabinet decisions, regardless of personal objections. Yet, Defense Minister Israel Katz defended the Chief of Staff's right to voice his opinion, stating that the army will ultimately implement the leadership's final decision. Meanwhile, on the ground, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, 20 Palestinians died overnight after a food truck overturned on desperate civilians in central Gaza, allegedly forced to use unsafe roads by Israeli forces. Eighteen others were killed by Israeli fire since dawn, and fresh evacuation orders have been issued for multiple neighborhoods in eastern Gaza City. As the war nears its two-year mark, questions loom over Israel's strategic direction, internal leadership rifts, and growing international condemnation, raising the stakes for both Netanyahu's government and Gaza's besieged population.
