Matsudai Ramen and Halen Môn Launch Kit Collaboration
Matsudai Ramen, Wales' cult ramen joint, and Halen Môn, the Anglesey Sea Salt company, are to launch a new collaborative ramen kit.
The new shio (salt) ramen kit has been created by the Matsudai team to showcase Halen Môn's salt products – and particularly its smoked salt and smoked water.
The bowl features a light, golden chicken and seafood soup, a new Halen Môn shio tare (secret seasoning sauce), wild garlic oil, hand-pressed noodles and pork loin chashu cured in Halen Môn smoked salt.
Since 2021, Matsudai has delivered tens of thousands of ramen kits to every corner of the UK, receiving praise from such culinary heroes as Tim Anderson, Andi Oliver, Big Has, and Melissa Thompson and appearing in articles in the Observer, the Mail, the Independent, BBC Good Food and many more.
In early August 2022 they opened Wales' first dedicated ramen shop – a flagship restaurant in Grangetown, Cardiff. Guardian critic Jay Rayner visited the restaurant soon after, calling it 'inventive, geeky and superb'.
To launch the new kit collaboration with Halen Môn, Matsudai will be hosting a pop-up lunch and dinner club with Halen Môn's Tide cafe at the saltcote on Anglesey on 10th July. The pop-up will showcase the recipe from the new kit, alongside a richer soup alternative and a vegan version. The ticket price includes a bowl of ramen and a selection of additional small plates and desserts, which also showcase Halen Môn products, will also be available to buy on the day.
The Matsudai x Halen Môn ramen kits will be available to pre-order from 27th June for delivery between 18th July and 16th August. Tickets for the pop-up event at Halen Môn are available to book now online.

We've made good use of Halen Môn's smoked salt and water, to accentuate the depth of the flavours that we bring from our long-cooked soups and marinated meats and vegetables. We've wanted to do this for ages and I'm really pleased to bring this idea to life.

Halen Môn has built an international reputation for its iconic hand-harvested, organic-approved Welsh sea salt made from Anglesey sea water and its range of seasonings and condiments that celebrate the best natural ingredients. It launched its artisan smokery business in 2008 with smoked sea salt, and has since developed a range of ingredients, popular with top restaurants and chefs, including a Great Taste award-winning Oak Smoked Water.

TUC Cymru calls for not-for-profit adult social care model
TUC Cymru has urged the Welsh Government to remove private profit from the sector, following its decision to do so in children's services from April 2026. Shavanah Taj, general secretary of TUC Cymru, said: "TUC Cymru welcomes the Welsh Government's actions in legislating to remove profit from children's social care. "That's a real win for our most vulnerable children and the unions which campaigned for this change. "But this must be just the beginning." She said public money intended for adult social care should not become profit for investors and called for a new approach led by local authorities and trusted charities. Ms Taj said care workers must also be properly valued, with fair pay, secure contracts, and opportunities for training and career progression. TUC Cymru held a fringe meeting on the topic during the Welsh Labour conference in Llandudno on Friday, June 27.

City of Newport Business Club Summer Social July 10
The City of Newport Business Club will host its fourth annual Summer Social at NP20 Bar & Kitchen, Mercure Newport, on July 10. The event promises a relaxed evening of comedy, magic, music, and networking in the heart of the city. Professor Jonathan Deacon, chairman of the City of Newport Business Club, said: "Our Summer Social has become a fixture on the calendar of many businesses across Newport and the wider area for good reason. "It gives our guests a chance to relax in an informal atmosphere, enjoy some great entertainment, food and drink, and – of course – to network with fellow businesses. "We look forward to seeing everyone on July 10." This year's line-up includes Welsh comedian Steffan Evans, who has supported Elis James on tour and compered shows featuring James Acaster. Magician Jose Fortuna will entertain guests with close-up card tricks, while singer and guitarist Chris John, a regular at the club's summer socials, will provide live music. The evening includes a buffet and a pay bar. The City of Newport Business Club typically holds four networking events each year with guest speakers. The Summer Social offers a fifth, more informal gathering focused on entertainment and relaxed networking. The event begins at 5pm, and tickets are priced at £27.50, including a buffet meal. Starmer to warn of ‘backroom stitch-up' in Welsh elections
In a speech to the Welsh Labour conference, the Prime Minister is set to say that a coalition of those parties would be a 'return to the chaos and division of the last decade' and risk rolling back the progress his party is starting to make. Welsh First Minister Baroness Eluned Morgan meanwhile will call next year's polls a 'moment of reckoning' and 'serious threat' as Reform UK is 'rising' and Plaid Cymru 'mobilising'. And Labour will announce funding to help those made redundant by the Tata Steel closure in Port Talbot. Reform UK is eyeing an opportunity to end Labour's 26 years of domination in the Welsh Parliament at the Senedd elections in May next year. Labour performed poorly in this year's local elections in England, which saw Nigel Farage's party win a swathe of council seats. Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has not ruled out making deals with Plaid Cymru or Reform at the next Senedd election. Welsh Labour leader Baroness Morgan will say the election is not going to be a 'routine affair'. She will add: 'It will be a moment of reckoning. Reform are rising. Plaid are mobilising. And across the country, people are asking big, serious questions about the kind of future they want for Wales. 'This is not a moment to look away. This is the moment to look forward – a moment of maximum opportunity and, yes, also of serious threat. It's time to stand up. It's time to get involved.' The conference in Llandudno comes on the heels of Sir Keir's U-turn on welfare policy to avert a major backbench rebellion that will leave Chancellor Rachel Reeves facing a scramble to fill a potential hole in her budget this autumn. Ahead of marking a year in office next week, Sir Keir will point to moves his Government has made since the election that he says bring direct benefits to Wales, including international trade deals that give a boost to brands such as Penderyn whisky and legislation to bolster workers' rights. Wales Secretary Jo Stevens is set to announce a new £11 million fund for businesses offering skilled employment in Port Talbot as it seeks to help those left unemployed by Tata Steel's closure of the steelworks. The fund is made up of £6.78 million from the Government and £5 million from Tata Steel. 'The Tories abandoned our steelworkers. Reform want to cancel the Electric Arc Furnace, throw away 5,000 jobs, and send people back down the mines. 'We have the backs of our steelworkers, their families and local businesses,' Ms Stevens will say. Sir Keir will tout the advantages of having parallel Labour governments in Westminster and Wales, with Baroness Morgan leading the latter as a 'fierce champion'. 'This is the party that has got wages rising faster in the first 10 months than the Tories managed in 10 years. This is the government that is cutting bills and creating jobs. This is the movement that will rebuild Britain and renew Wales,' Sir Keir is expected to say. Labour is the party with the 'interests of working people at their heart' and 'it always will be', he will say. 'Or, there's the other option. The risk of rolling back all the progress we're beginning to make. A return to the chaos and division of the last decade. 'A backroom stitch-up between the Tories, Reform and Plaid. And once again, it will be working families left to pick up the bill. 'Whether that's with Reform, or with Plaid's determination to cut Wales off from the rest of the country – with no plan to put Wales back together.' The Conservatives have said that Labour has 'let Wales down for far too long'. Shadow Welsh secretary Mims Davies said: 'Divisions between a complacent Welsh Labour and Starmer's failing UK Government in Westminster have simply not improved Wales's outlook, despite the fabled benefit of two Labour Governments in Wales, which is absolute bunkum.' She also added: 'Labour has let Wales down for too long, taken people for granted and now the PM is making a mess of the entire United Kingdom.'
