Al Rayyan drawn alongside Saudi's Al Shabab for Gulf Club Champions League

Al Rayyan have been drawn in Group B for the second edition of Gulf Club Champions League following the official draw held via video conference at the headquarters of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) in Doha.
Al Rayyan will face stern competition in the group, which also features Saudi Arabia's Al Shabab, Al Nahda from Oman, and Tadamun of Yemen. The group promises high-level encounters as clubs from across the region gear up for the regional showpiece.
Group A comprises Zakho of Iraq, Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates, Sitra of Bahrain, and Kuwait's Al Qadisiya.
The tournament is scheduled to run from September 16, 2025, to April 14, 2026, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-final stage.
The second edition of the Gulf Club Champions League comes amid rising interest and regional enthusiasm, following the organisational and technical success of the inaugural edition.
With higher expectations this time around, the tournament is seen as a key step in establishing itself as one of the Gulf region's premier club competitions.
Al Rayyan, with a rich history and strong domestic performance, will be aiming to assert its dominance on the regional stage and secure a deep run in the tournament.

Tribune News Network Doha Al Rayyan and Al Shamal made a winning starts to their campaign in 2025-2026 season of Qatar Stars League on Thursday. While Al Rayyan scored a 3-1 comeback victory against promoted side and last season's Second Division champions Al Sailiya, Al Shamal prevailed 2-0 over Al Ahli. It was the Brazilian Roger Guedes struck two goals for Al Rayyan at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, scoring one from the spot in the 82nd minute before putting the icing on the cake in the 90th minute following a defensive error in a highly-entertaining encounter. Earlier, Hadi Ali registered the first goal of the season for Al Sailiya in the 20th minute to set the tone before an unmarked Julien de Sart rifled home a belter, inches from the edge of the 25-yard box in the 68th minute to restore parity for Al Rayyan, who were earlier denied a penalty call via VAR decision in the 25th minute. The win will doubtlessly serve as a morale booster for Portuguese coach Artur Jorge's men, who had finished the last season in fifth place, while Al Sailiya, who are experiencing a new lease of life in the top division, will be now aiming to bounce back in their next match. Omar stars for Al Shamal In the late evening clash, Al Shamal's 21-year-old Mohammed Rafiq Omar starred with a goal and an assist as the side beat Al Ahli 2-0 at the Khalifa International Stadium. Omar scored in the 88th minute while Mohamed Manai struck earlier in the 40th minute with a fine side flick. It was a delightful first win of the new season for Al Shamal, who had finished sixth in the previous season while Al Ahli were fourth. Al Shamal broke past Al Ahli's defence first in the opening half as Omar worked his way past defenders before providing Manai, also 21, with a perfect ball. Stationed near the left post, Manai caught the cross making a right-foot flick into the net past a hapless Al Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim. Al Shamal had earlier scored in the 17th minute but unsuccessfully when Omar had made a breakaway to move in and strike but the goal was ruled out by VAR for off-side. Omar however hit back late in the second session as he latched on to a defensive lapse to dash in, and with a cool head dribbled past the goalkeeper and a chasing defender to make it 2-0. Al Ahli had their moments but weren't forceful enough. An in dipping free kick from Julian Draxler was cut off by Al Shamal goalkeeper Babacar Seck in the 68th minute, who had a good evening under the bar. On Friday, Al Arabi will meet Al Wakrah while Al Gharafa will play Umm Salal. Al Arabi and Al Wakrah will face-off at the Al Thumama Stadium at 6.30pm and the match is expected to generate a lot of Arabi are under Spanish coach Pablo Amowhile Al Wakrah are under the leadership of their new Spanish coach Vicente Moreno. The second match of the day between Al Gharafa and Umm Salal will be played at the Al Bayt Stadium at 8.30pm. Al Gharafa had finished third in last season, while Umm Salal were 11th and played in the playoff where they beat Al Markhiya.

Tribune News Network Doha The Doha Stars League is all set for grand kick-off on Thursday, unveiling the arrival of many new stars in the squads of the twelve teams. Al Rayyan will meet Al Sailiya in the first match of the opening day at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium at 6.30pm. Among the marquee signings during the transfer window have been the arrivals of Brazilian Roberto Firmino from Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli, Spanish midfielder Pau Prim from Barcelona, and Uruguayan midfielder Agustín Soria – all for Al Sadd. Al Duhail have already welcomed Brazilian Lucas Silva Melo 'Tuta', Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek and Algerian star Adel Boulbina. Al Sadd, guided by Spaniard Felix Sanchez, aim to initiate the season robustly. The Wolves triumphed in the Al Ahrar Cup by beating Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in a penalty shoot-out 5-4 following a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time. Qatar SC are expected to be a formidable adversary considering the preparedness of the majority of their players. They are eager to deliver a commendable performance against Al Sadd under new coach Marquez Lopez, the former Al Wakrah coach, who has enjoyed significant success with the Qatar national team, steering Al Annabi to triumph in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Recently, The Kings bolstered their line-up with several new additions, most notably Senegalese Serigne Diouf, Comoros player Faiz Selemani, Argentinian defender Francesco Russo, Czech midfielder Lukas Kalvach, Brazilian striker Joao Pedro and Qatar our national team striker Ahmed Al Rawi. Chief of Staff attends closing ceremonyof 2025 Summer Activity Programme
Tribune News Network Doha Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of State for Defence Affairs, and in the presence of HE Lt Gen (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Mannai, Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces, Qatar Armed Forces Sports Association celebrated the conclusion of the 2025 Summer Activity Programme for the children of the Armed Forces personnel. This year's edition witnessed a high turnout and strong engagement, with over 400 participants taking part. The activities lasted for a full month and were organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments & Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Interior represented by the Directorate of Studies and International Affairs, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Shooting, Archery & Bow Federation, Ihsan Center, and Aspire Academy. The closing ceremony featured a brief showcase of sports activities the students participated in during the programme, such as football, basketball, shooting, swimming and martial arts. These activities, supervised by officers and coaches from Qatar Armed Forces Sports Association, helped develop the students' athletic skills and provided an opportunity to discover numerous sporting talents. At the end of the ceremony, the Chief of Staff honoured the entities that participated in the summer programme, in the presence of several senior commanders and officers from the Armed Forces, as well as the participants' parents.
