The Sustainable Coffee Platform of Indonesia (SCOPI) and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) (www.ITFC-IDB.org) announced key findings of the mid-term survey from the Coffee Master Trainer Upgrade (Coffee MUG) Program, a five-year initiative helping smallholder farmers in North Sumatra and Aceh adopt sustainable coffee-growing practices.
Since its launch in October 2021, the program has trained 4,754 farmers—37% (1,781) women—across 130 villages, with 3,700 hectares now managed under Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Nineteen Master Trainers and eight candidates act as local champions, guiding farmer groups on soil health, pruning, post-harvest handling, and quality control. The field midline survey conducted to the program and confirmed that average yields in the target areas rose 13.7 percent in 2023, equivalent to 78 kilograms of green bean per hectare compared to the previous year.
Capacity-building results are equally encouraging participating trainers demonstrated 91 percent competence in sustainable coffee farming and 87 percent competence in training methodologies during recent evaluations. Farmer livelihoods are beginning to reflect these gains. Average annual coffee sales reached IDR 82.95 million (US$5,100) per farmer in 2023, while average net farm income rose to IDR 71.52 million (US$4,400).
Earlier this year, SCOPI and ITFC convened twin data-utilisation workshops in Berastagi (Karo Regency) and Takengon (Central Aceh Regency). Local officials, private buyers, Master Trainers, and farmer leaders reviewed the mid-line survey results, explored a new web-based monitoring dashboard, and agreed on concrete follow-up actions—such as establishing demonstration plots that now serve as 'living classrooms' for young farmers and expanding market pathways with ofi Indonesia, Louis Dreyfus Company, and Ecom/Indo Cafco.
'This survey is more than just data collection—it is a strategic tool to sharpen the program's direction and ensure it remains responsive to farmers' real needs' said Ade Aryani, Executive Director of SCOPI
Nazeem Noordali, Chief Operating Officer of ITFC, added: 'Farmer surveys offer data-driven guidance, help identify gaps, and support the development of more impactful strategies. Programs like Coffee MUG must remain dynamic and responsive to field realities.'
At data-utilization workshops Karo Regency and Central Aceh Regency, SCOPI and ITFC joined officials, buyers, trainers, and farmers to review mid-line findings, test a new monitoring dashboard, and launch demo plots for youth training.
Looking ahead, the program is scaling its trainers network through a new recruitment drive that will bring more young people into the Master Trainer pipeline, securing generational renewal. Field trials focused on soil-health interventions will also continue, targeting a further yield increase by 2026. In parallel, fresh modules on financial literacy and digital marketing are being developed for rollout later this year, with a special emphasis on empowering women and youth farmer groups.

DMCC hosts first-ever roadshow in Indonesia as it sees 13% growth in companies from Southeast Asia

Southeast Asian businesses in DMCC grow to over 650, a rise of 13% in past 12 months Announcement made during inaugural Made For Trade Live roadshow in Jakarta, Indonesia UAE-Indonesia CEPA projected to double bilateral trade to USD 10 billion within next five years Over 150 Indonesian business and government leaders briefed on Dubai's role as a global gateway for energy, agriculture, technology and the Islamic economy Dubai, UAE: DMCC, the leading international business district that drives the flow of global trade through Dubai, has concluded its first-ever Made For Trade Live (MFTL) roadshow in Jakarta, reinforcing the growing economic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. During the event, DMCC announced a 13% increase in Southeast Asian companies within its business district in the past 12 months – taking its total to more than 650 Southeast Asian companies, including over 30 from Indonesia. Following the landmark signing of the UAE-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in 2023, both countries have seen a rapid increase in trade and investment. Bilateral non-oil trade grew from USD 3 billion in 2020 to USD 5 billion in 2024 – a near-doubling in four years – while outward investment from the UAE has kickstarted major new projects in strategic sectors from renewable energy to advanced tech infrastructure, opening up new avenues for collaboration. Capitalising on this momentum, DMCC sees key opportunities to engage with Indonesian businesses and attract investment across sectors such as energy, agri-food, technology and the Islamic economy. DMCC's subsidiary the Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX) recently announced a strong first half of trading, with a key highlight being its Shariah-compliant Gold Spot Contract (DGSG) which jumped by almost 200% in value year-on-year to reach USD 46.8 million. In April, DMCC Tradeflow – its online platform for the registration and ownership of commodities stored in UAE facilities – appointed a Shariah Supervisory Board to oversee its Islamic finance offering and adherence to the highest ethical and regulatory standards. His Excellency Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE to the Republic of Indonesia, to the Democratic Republic of Timor–Leste, and the ASEAN, said: 'It is a privilege to participate in the Made for Trade Live event, organised by DMCC in partnership with the UAE Embassy in Jakarta and KADIN Indonesia. This event is not simply a meeting – it is a gateway for Indonesian partners to see firsthand the opportunities that the UAE offers to live, work, invest, and succeed. Our economic ties are anchored by the exceptional relationship between our leaders, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, who has already visited the UAE twice since his inauguration. But the true strength of the UAE–Indonesia relationship lies in people-to-people and business-to-business connections. The UAE remains unwavering in its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Indonesia across trade, investment, innovation, and beyond. The UAE Embassy in Jakarta stands ready to offer full support to all partners working to advance this shared vision. Together, we will build a stronger future, founded on mutual respect, shared prosperity, and lasting friendship.' Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DMCC, said: 'Trade and investment between the UAE and Indonesia has surged following the entry into force of the CEPA in 2023 – with bilateral non-oil trade reaching over USD 5 billion last year, nearly double its value five years ago. With over 650 companies from Southeast Asia in our district, DMCC now also represents an estimated 20% of the total Indonesian business presence in the UAE. Indonesia's role as the world's largest Muslim-majority nation and a global leader in Islamic finance, Halal-certified goods, and Shariah-compliant trade presents significant opportunities for collaboration with Dubai in advancing the Islamic economy. Dubai – and by extension the UAE – remains a pivotal node in the Islamic economic ecosystem. Its strengths stem from a blend of regulatory clarity, digital innovation, strategic geography, and diversified Islamic financial and trade infrastructure. As trade and investment momentum continues to grow, we will aim to consolidate our position as the trade hub of choice for Indonesian companies in Dubai, deepening the trade corridor with Jakarta and expanding business connectivity in key sectors from energy and agri-food to technology and the Islamic economy. By leveraging DMCC's global platforms in commodities and Islamic trade, we will help facilitate the flow of Halal products, Islamic financial instruments, and Shariah-compliant investment across the GCC, Southeast Asia, and beyond.' Held in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Jakarta and the Indonesian Business Council, the roadshow brought together over 150 Indonesian business leaders and government stakeholders to explore how DMCC can serve as a strategic platform for Indonesian companies looking to expand globally. DMCC's record as an international business district continues to drive its appeal. With over 25,000 companies now operating across its district, DMCC contributes 15% of Dubai's annual foreign direct investment inflows and 7% of the emirate's GDP. -Ends- Media Enquiries: DMCC PR & Corporate Communications pr@ About DMCC DMCC is a leading international business district that drives the flow of global trade through Dubai. AnyMind brings AI customer service to WhatsApp for global merchants

Aditya Aima, co-MD, India and MENA, AnyMind Group/Image: Supplied AnyMind Group, a BPaaS company for marketing, e-commerce and digital transformation, has expanded the reach of its AI customer service agent feature on its conversational commerce platform, AnyChat, by integrating it with WhatsApp. The feature, launched in March 2025, was previously available only on LINE. WhatsApp's scale makes the move significant — Meta reported in April 2025 that the platform has over 3 billion monthly active users globally, with India, Indonesia, and the Philippines among its top five markets. Businesses and online merchants in these and other WhatsApp-heavy regions, including Malaysia and Singapore, can now use AnyChat to automatically handle initial customer inquiries. Powered by large language models (LLMs), the AI customer service agent can interpret free-text messages, reducing reliance on human-only support teams. For companies fielding thousands of inquiries daily, this integration offers potential for transformative efficiency gains. In a three-month trial between March and June 2025, global water flosser brand Waterpik used the feature on LINE and was able to automate responses to 25 per cent of customer queries. Read: Unlike standard chatbots, AnyChat's AI agent processes questions in natural language and provides responses within brand-approved guardrails, cutting operational workload while avoiding 'hallucinated' answers. It can collect key customer details such as order IDs and names, enabling a smooth handover to human agents when needed. Historical chat data is stored to help brands identify recurring issues and improve templates, while product details can be updated in real time to ensure accurate responses. 'For most Indian consumers, WhatsApp is the first and often the only touchpoint with a brand,' said Aditya Aima, managing director, Growth Markets; co-MD, India and MENA, AnyMind Group. 'That's why this integration matters. It's not about adding another tool, but about helping businesses have faster, more meaningful conversations with their customers, without overloading their teams. It's a small shift with the potential for real, lasting impact.' AnyChat connects enterprises to multiple chat and e-commerce platforms — including LINE, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Shopee, and Lazada — from a single dashboard. Initially launched as a standalone platform, it is now integrated into AnyMind's e-commerce management suite, AnyX, which provides unified tools for analytics, store management, CRM, and logistics.

World Mobile launches drone-based, decentralized telecom project

World Mobile is launching a blockchain-enabled 5G network using drones to beam connectivity directly to users worldwide. The company partnered with Indonesian telecom firm Protelindo to create World Mobile Stratospheric, an initiative designed to bridge gaps left by traditional communication infrastructure worldwide. The project uses hydrogen-powered drones, flying at 60,000 feet in the stratosphere, to provide wireless coverage of up to 15,000 square kilometers per aircraft using 450 guidable beams, Charles Barnett, the chief business officer of World Mobile Group, told Cointelegraph. This aerial network outperforms satellite-based telecommunications, with '6ms of total latency,' allowing it to provide service 'up to 18 times cheaper' per gigabyte than space-based infrastructure, Barnett said. The company is attempting to take a slice of the sky-based communications pie, a $98.3 billion sector, which includes satellite and aerial-based communications platforms. World Mobile has already established a ground-based decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePin) that mixes traditional telecom infrastructure and independent, distributed providers to extend service to underserved communities by patching dead zones. Challenges to launching atmospheric-based telecommunication networks Launching and maintaining a stratospheric-based communication platform carries several technical and regulatory challenges, Barnett told Cointelegraph. The company is aiming for each hydrogen-powered drone, which has a 56-meter wingspan and weighs four tons, to remain airborne for nine days before it must land at a designated refueling station. This means the craft, and its fuel source, must be as light as possible to achieve maximum fuel efficiency and remain aloft, while also ensuring robust construction that can withstand weather conditions at lower altitudes in the atmosphere. At altitudes of 60,000 feet, the drones will sit above weather systems. The stratosphere also has calmer winds than at lower altitudes, where turbulence can be an issue. However, even in the stratosphere, the drones must still be protected from cosmic radiation, which can damage electronic equipment. Similarly, the side of the drone facing the sun will be bombarded with heat, which must be displaced to prevent damage. Meeting regulatory requirements outlined by civil aviation authorities like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is also a challenge for such projects. This includes acquiring permits to fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and building each drone to standards outlined by government aviation agencies. World Mobile faces competition from the ground and space World Mobile has several competitors in both decentralized wireless networks and space-based communication platforms. Helium Mobile, for instance, is a decentralized protocol that combines a distributed network of wireless nodes and partnerships with established telecom companies like AT&T to extend wireless coverage and provide service to dead zones. Elon Musk's Starlink, which provides internet connectivity through satellites, is also competing for market share in communication infrastructure, although the two companies fill a different niche, Barnett told Cointelegraph. Starlink is more suited to deliver service to remote areas without any cellular connectivity, while World Mobile Stratospheric is suited to areas with a higher density of mobile users, Barnett added. The satellite communication platform also requires purchasing dedicated hardware for connectivity, Barnett said. Source:
