Entering Tuesday, the Phoenix Mercury boasted a 5-2 record, sitting second in the Western Conference.
Unfortunately, Phoenix proceeded to drop its third game of the season, getting blown out 88-65 by the Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis.

Without All-Star forward, Alyssa Thomas, Phoenix struggled through much of the night, shooting a horrid 5-of-30 from 3-point range and getting outrebounded 37-24.
To make matters worse, before the contest, head coach Nate Tibbetts confirmed that Thomas, who was ruled out with a left calf injury, remains in limbo regarding her return.
"I'm not sure," Tibbetts said when asked when she will resume basketball activities.
Fans online were quick to react to Tibbetts comments.
"Our MVP stock nooooooo 💔💔," said one fan.
One commenter reacted to this with, "🙄."
"Nooo that's so sad 😩", replied another user.

"That's what happens when your arms are holding on by a string," said another commenter.
"Stop bein so secretive and give us a little info," commented another fan.
One other user simply left it at, "[Expletive]".

Thomas was traded to Phoenix in February and has already emerged as arguably the Mercury's best player.
Through five games in 2025, she has averaged 15.2 points, 8.0 assists, 7.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest, shooting 50.% from the field and leading the team in assists.
In her absence, the Mercury have now dropped a 74-71 contest to the Lynx on Friday, won 85-80 over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday and now again to Minnesota.

Fans, hopeful that Thomas would anchor a new era in Phoenix, now face uncertainty as the season's trajectory shifts without her on on the court.

Caitlin Clark Bracing For Punishment After Fever-Liberty Game

Caitlin Clark Bracing For Punishment After Fever-Liberty Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark returned from injury on Saturday afternoon when Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty came to town. Advertisement Clark suffered her quad strain on May 24 against the Liberty, forcing her to miss the Fever's next five contests. Indiana dropped 3-of-5 games, falling to 4-5 heading into Saturday. In her return, it didn't take Clark long to show off her competitive spirit. With 4:37 left in the second quarter, Clark was arguing an out-of-bounds call with the officials, but she may have gone too far, picking up her first technical foul of the 2025 WNBA season. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin ClarkGrace Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Fever wound up challenging the out-of-bounds call after Clark's technical, but it was upheld, and Indiana was charged with a timeout. Ionescu made the technical free throw. Advertisement Barring the league rescinding the technical foul, Clark likely has a $200 fine coming her way. In the WNBA, a player's first three technical fouls each result in a $200 fine. The next three (4-6) result in a $400 fine each. And seven or more technicals will end with a $800 charge. However, the WNBA changed the technical foul rules around this season, likely due to the increase in scheduled games from 40 to 44. In recent seasons, a seventh tech would also lead to a suspension. However, this year, they increased that number to eight. However, Clark may be used to paying some of these fines. During her rookie year, she picked up six technical fouls, which ended up being $1,800 in total fines. Diana Taurasi, Natasha Cloud and Teaira McCowan led the league with seven techs apiece. Advertisement Following the Liberty game, Clark and the Fever will have a couple of days off before getting a rematch with the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. Woeful Rockies absorb 2 records for futility with 19 whiffs and worst 70-game mark in modern era

ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Farmer just shrugged when asked about being part of a Colorado team that just made MLB history with the worst 70-game record in the modern era. 'We don't care,' Farmer said after Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves left the Rockies with a 13-57 record. The Rockies surpassed the 1932 Boston Red Sox, who were 14-56, for the worst 70-game mark since 1901. 'I mean, there's nothing we can do about it,' Farmer said. 'It is what it is. We've just got to show up tomorrow and play. There's nothing you can really say about it except that if it happens, it happens.' The Rockies made more inglorious history by setting a franchise nine-inning record with 19 strikeouts. That's a lot of futility for one team to absorb in one day. The 19 strikeouts by Braves pitchers also set an Atlanta record for a nine-inning game. Spencer Strider recorded 13 strikeouts in six innings, followed by relievers Rafael Montero and Dylan Lee, who combined for six more whiffs. The only bright spot for the Rockies was the encouraging start by rookie right-hander Chase Dollander, a native of Evans, Georgia, who allowed four runs, three earned, in six innings. Dollander said 'just having a neutral mindset' is the key to remaining positive through a season already filled with low points for the team. 'Don't ride the roller coaster,' Dollander said. 'You know, there's going to be lots of ups and downs in this game. This game is really hard. So it's just, you know, staying neutral and we just keep going.' Dollander was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 summer draft. Among other top young players on the team are catcher Hunter Goodman, who may return to Atlanta for the All-Star Game on July 15, and outfielders Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle. 'You know we're going to have our time,' Dollander said. 'I mean, it's just one of those things that you kind of learn as you go. I've been very fortunate to be here for a little bit now, and I can help us going forward.' 'For sure, keeping guys accountable and teaching them the right way to do stuff,' said Farmer, the first baseman whose double off Strider was one of only four hits for the Rockies. 'Keeping their heads up and they've got to show up each day and play, no matter our record. It's your job and you worked your whole life to get here. Enjoy it. This is a great opportunity for a young guy to show what they can do.' ___

Caitlin Clark Issues Strong Statement on Her Future With Indiana Fever

Caitlin Clark Issues Strong Statement on Her Future With Indiana Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark has only appeared in four games this season due to a left quad injury. Without their best player, the Fever have gone 2-3. Advertisement Clark is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists this season while shooting 40.3% from the field, 31.4% from beyond the arc and 75.0% from the free-throw line. The Fever went 2-2 with Clark in the lineup before she got hurt. Indiana has struggled to score the ball without Clark in the lineup. Some fans believe the All-Star may get frustrated if her team keeps losing games without her. Caitlin Clark loves playing for Indiana. Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images However, Clark told ESPN that she wants to spend her entire WNBA career in Indiana. "Ty (Tyrese Haliburton) and I would both tell you this is where we both hope to stay the rest of our careers," Clark said. "People are like, 'It's a small market.' But no, that's what makes it fun. These people, this is what means the world to them. We haven't hosted a Finals game in 25 years, and I've never seen this type of excitement. People are lining up three hours before the game. I literally just got the chills thinking about it. Advertisement "And they're the same for the Fever. I think it's just like [Pacers coach] Rick [Carlisle] said, 'In 49 other states it's basketball, but here it's just really different.' I'm really fortunate to be able to play here and he's the same." The Indiana Pacers are in the 2025 NBA Finals. The Pacers haven't lost a game this postseason at home with Clark in attendance. The 23-year-old Clark loves playing in Indiana. She helped the Fever make the playoffs last year and is hoping to the same again this year once she recovers from her injury.
