A DRIVER has tracked his car stolen from outside his home — as it was spirited 6,849 miles away to Tanzania.
Jimmy Munday, 44, had hidden an Apple AirTag in the £50,000 Range Rover.

But after it was pinched from his driveway he watched helplessly as it headed off across the globe. His frustration was made worse as he had left his favourite hat on the back seat.
It is now in Tanzania where he can see it is driven to and from the same place each day.
He said: 'I often wonder who's driving it and if they are also wearing my favourite hat I left in the back seat. Size 9.'
Range Rovers and other high-end motors are increasingly being stolen to order for buyers in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and Tanzania where demand for right-hand drive vehicles is high.
Married dad Jimmy's 4x4 was stolen from Chelmsford, Essex, a few months ago and was soon being driven across Europe.
Jimmy's tracker showed it was shipped over the Mediterranean and through the Suez Canal.
It was then driven across Africa — through Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda, before arriving in Tanzania.
IT consultant Jimmy's pals have teased him about his stolen car — even writing a plot for a screenplay, imagining a hidden stash of illegal pills in the car and gangsters on his trail.
One wrote: 'But it's not just the car Jimmy wants back. Inside it? His favourite hat, left resting on the back seat.'

But new data from Available Car has shed light on exactly which cities are the best and worst to drive an electric vehicle. Researchers looked at the number of charging points per 10,000 people within a five mile radius of city centres. They also noted the average cost and time it takes to charge half an EV battery. The data examines 53 major cities across the UK, excluding London. Liverpool was found to be the city with the lowest number of chargers, with just two chargers per 100,000 people within a five mile radius of the city centre. Newcastle barely did better at 2.4 chargers per 100,000, while Bradford and Leeds followed up with 2.6 each. 10 cities with the fewest EV chargers The following 10 cities have the fewest number of EV chargers per 100,000 people within a five mile radius of the city centre according to Available Car: Liverpool - 2.0 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - 2.4 Bradford - 2.6 Leeds - 2.6 Sheffield - 3.0 Bristol - 3.4 Birmingham - 3.5 Southend-on-sea - 3.8 Durham - 4.0 Canterbury - 4.5 Smaller cities boasted far better numbers in the EV charging accessibility ranking. Ripon was the city with the highest number of chargers per 100,000 at 63.1 - far ahead of second placed Salisbury at 43.7. But simply finding a charger isn't the only issue EV owners face. Available Car's data also highlighted a major regional disparity in the time it takes to charge half a battery. Leicester is the city found to have the slowest EV charging times - taking an average of 8.25 hours to get to half charge. Available Car's report reads: "The city's slower charging infrastructure highlights the need for investment in faster chargers to support the growing demand for electric vehicles. "Without quicker charging options, Leicester may face challenges in encouraging more drivers to switch to electric." But Leicester EV drivers have some solace - as the survey also found it to cheapest city to charge your car, where a half full battery would cost an average of £12.60. 10 cities with the slowest EV charging time The following cities have the slowest average time to charge an EV according to Available Car: Leicester - 8.25 hours Brighton & Hove - 6.24 hours Portsmouth - 5.67 hours Coventry - 5.45 hours Oxford - 4.65 hours York - 4.58 hours Bath - 4.54 hours Leeds - 4.51 hours Manchester - 4.46 hours Norwich - 4.28 hours Brighton & Hove and Portsmouth followed Leicester as the next slowest for charging, 6.24 and 5.67 hours respectively. Wakefield recorded the speediest charge of the cities surveyed, taking an average of just 0.8 hours. The researchers used a Tesla Model Y as the benchmark vehicle when gathering the data. Their report adds: "Making the switch to an electric vehicle (EV) should be an exciting step towards greener, more sustainable driving. "However, one of the biggest barriers preventing drivers from switching from petrol or diesel to electric vehicles is having to rely on their local charging infrastructure, particularly the time it takes to charge and the cost involved. "Unlike petrol and diesel drivers, EV owners must navigate the UK's charging network, where charging speeds and costs vary significantly based on location and charger type."

‘Essex Boys' triple killer Michael Steele released from prison
Michael Steele was jailed for life in 1998 for the killings of Tony Tucker, Pat Tate and Craig Rolfe, which he denied, alongside co-defendant Jack Whomes. The three men were found shot dead in a Range Rover in Rettendon, near Chelmsford, Essex, in 1995. A Parole Board panel decided in February to free Steele, now in his 80s, because his imprisonment was 'no longer necessary for the protection of the public' but Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood challenged the decision and asked for his case to be reviewed again on the grounds the decision was legally irrational. Steele was released from prison in May, the MoJ confirmed. A spokesperson for the government department said: 'Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Craig Rolfe, Tony Tucker and Pat Tate. 'This decision was made by the independent Parole Board after a thorough risk assessment. 'Michael Steele will be on licence for the rest of his life, with strict conditions and intensive probation supervision. He faces an immediate return to prison if he breaks the rules.' The killings took place after a row over a drug deal, prosecutors said, and the case later inspired the 2000 film Essex Boys, starring Sean Bean. The decision in February to release Steele came in the second review by the Parole Board following the end of his initial minimum term of 23 years' imprisonment. He had not been assessed as suitable for formal risk-reduction interventions while in prison, 'partly through lack of need and partly because he had maintained his innocence of involvement in the murders', the Parole Board's summary said. It added that risk factors for Steele at the time of his offending included his 'criminal lifestyle, involvement with drugs and association with the wrong people'. But the Parole Board also found that Steele's behaviour in prison had shown 'marked improvement' and none of the witnesses considered risks would be imminent if he was released into the community. Strict licence conditions were set out for Steele, including to live at a designated address, be of good behaviour, provide financial and business details, give up his passport, and be subject to electronic tagging and a specified curfew. There were additional restrictions relating to the use of electronic technology, contact with the media or other publications, and not to own a boat, plane or firearm. The Parole Board decided Whomes, then aged 59, could be released in 2021.
