A new way to watch KELOLAND News
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — KELOLAND+ is offering more people the opportunity to keep up with the news live from anywhere in the country.
'You can watch it from anywhere else is kind of one of the benefits I found in this is, you know, if you're someone here or from this area, but you don't live in this area anymore, you know, you're down in Arizona because you're a snowbird. You can actually load the KELOLAND+ app up on your TV, and you can kind of keep up to date with what's going on in this area,' said Jody Staples, KELOLAND digital media manager.

As long as you have the ability to use Roku, Fire or Apple streaming devices, the app is available for free. Here's how it works on Roku: all you have to do is search for 'KELOLAND Plus,' install the app, and start watching. Local newscasts stream live, but you can also re-watch local stories, sports highlights and weather.
'Our hope is that we're going to start to connect with a younger generation, people that have sampled our station over the air. But they're using the streaming, that's their daily habit. And so, we are really just looking to expand our audience,' said Mari Ossenfort, KELOLAND vice president and general manager.
When there isn't a newscast streaming live, you can watch KELOLAND Living, NewsNation or WeatherNow on the app. But there are bigger plans in store to showcase more local content.
'We got to crawl and then we got to walk and then we got to run. Right? And so right now you might want to say we're in a little bit of a crawling stage. But as time goes by, we see all kinds of local content that we can offer the community. So that's going to be really fun,' said Ossenfort.

Storm Center PM Update: Windy and Cooler Start to the Week
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It was a warm day across KELOLAND and as a cold front passes through, shower and thunderstorm chances are going to increase for the evening. Portions of northeastern KELOLAND are in a marginal risk for severe weather as isolated, strong wind gusts and hail are the main hazards with stronger storms. The broken line of showers and thunderstorms will push eastward and into Minnesota by the overnight hours. Spotty rain chances will linger in West River into Sunday as the low pressure system tries to move off. Behind the front, winds will begin to turn to the northwest and temperatures will cool into the 40s and 50s tonight. The wind will draw back smoke from wildfires into our area and that will linger into tomorrow. While most of it will be aloft, it could get near the surface at times. Stronger winds will start to build in tomorrow morning. Widespread gusts up to 40 MPH are possible across KELOLAND by the afternoon before calming down for tomorrow night. The smoke will also decrease with the wind. We will take two steps back with our temperatures as we return to below average for this time of year. It won't last for too long though as an upper level ridge moves in for the middle of the week. It will feel more like summer with mostly dry conditions and highs in the mid to upper 80s. An unsettled pattern will try to return as we go into the end of next week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 25th annual Juneteenth celebration in Liberty this weekend
LIBERTY, Mo. — A celebration of the African American is happening this weekend. The Clay County African American Legacy is hosting its 25th annual Juneteenth celebration in downtown Liberty. Things to do this weekend in Kansas City June 6-8 The two-day celebration started at 10 a.m. Friday with open house tours of Garrison School Cultural Center Museum. There are six historical exhibit rooms and an art gallery showcasing African American contributions to the region. Friday night, the celebration continues with a dinner and comedy show headlined by Guy Torry. Torry will perform two shows, but unfortunately both are already sold out. 'In the African American culture, we've been celebrating Juneteenth way before it became a federal holiday,' Peter Adams said. 'To see it being honored nationally is absolutely amazing. I was in the country of Columbia, South America and they were even talking about Juneteenth there, so that's a good feeling.' On Saturday, a dedication of the Will Smith Basketball Marker at Ruth Moore Park will be at noon. Both celebrations are free. Organizers say aside from scheduled events, there will also be plenty of vendors and food. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
