Farmers protest bank deductions in Trichy
Led by association president P Ayyakannu, the farmers locked the office gates near Cantonment and staged a sit-in inside the premises. They alleged that the bank was unfairly deducting funds credited under Union government schemes, checking CIBIL scores before issuing agricultural loans, and seizing farm equipment for loan defaults.
Bank officials appealed to the protesters not to disrupt operations or obstruct staff and customers. Cantonment police, who arrived at the scene, urged the farmers to submit a written petition outlining their grievances.
Following this, Ayyakannu and senior representatives held a meeting with IOB officials in the presence of police. The bank assured them that the demands would be reviewed, after which the protesters dispersed.

Crop loan circular withdrawn after AIADMK petition: Edappadi K Palaniswami
TIRUCHY: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami claimed it was after his party submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state withdrew the circular mandating submission of CIBIL scores to avail crop loans. After submitting the memorandum to Modi, DMK was left with no choice but to withdraw the circular, said Palaniswami, who was on the way to Sivagangai district as part of his campaign. He said during his campaign in the delta districts, farmers had consistently raised the issue. Palaniswami said the state remained unresponsive despite his repeated appeals on behalf of the farmers. 'However, after the petition was submitted to the Prime Minister, the state government quickly issued a circular on July 28, stating the existing procedures for providing crop loans to farmers would continue unchanged. We are glad that the government has finally listened to the farmers' demand,' he said Answering to the question on which all parties are part of the NDA, he said currently both the AIADMK and the BJP are part of the alliance. There are other parties allied with the BJP as well and the full list of allies will be clear when election approaches.

EPS blames state for lack of funds for school education dept
1 2 Trichy/Sivaganga: While former AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam has criticised the Centre for not releasing funds for the school education department, AIA DMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has pinned the blame on the state govt, alleging that DMK was politicising the issue. Speaking to reporters at Trichy on Tuesday, EPS questioned the DMK for `failing' to shift education from concurrent list to state list when the party shared power in the Centre for about 16 years. "In 1976, when Congress was in power, education was moved from state to concurrent list. If DMK really had the intention, they could have resolved the issue when they were part of union govts,'' EPS said responding to a query on OPS condemning the Centre for not releasing 2,151 crore SSA fund. To a query on the parties which are part of NDA, EPS said there were eight more months left to finalise the alliance. For now, EPS said, AIADMK and BJP have formed an alliance, while there were a few other parties which have allied with BJP. EPS said that the state govt has revoked an order mandating Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) to verify farmers' CIBIL score to disburse crop loans after he raised the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why are some Chinese youth calling themselves 'rat people', and what issues does it surface? I submitted a request to the PM outlining the difficulties faced by farmers. A revised circular issued on July 28 revoked the order, and the old norms have now been reinstated," he said. Palaniswami added that the AIADMK continues to work for the people despite being out of power. "I had raised this issue several times during my campaigns, but the state govt ignored it. Only after I brought it to the PM's attention did they act. We are glad to have helped the farmers," he said. Addressing the public in Sivaganga district later in the day, during his Makkalai Kappom, Tamizhagathai Meetpom campaign, EPS alleged that chief minister M K Stalin enacted a drama conducting review meetings during his hospitalisation. EPS recalled that he had wished the CM to recover soon. But, Stalin enacted a drama by conducting a meeting with the officials at the hospital in a bid to dupe the people, EPS said. EPS also flayed Stalin for the state govt's directive mandating the small traders to get licence to run shops and install CCTV cameras. "Would it be possible for the small traders to obtain licences and install CCTV cameras?" he asked, adding that the livelihood of the traders would be affected.

‘DMK uses govt. officials for its propaganda'
'While 'Ungaludin Stalin' programme is apparently a propaganda for the DMK, why should they use government officials for the party's advertisement?,' asked AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Speaking as part of his Makkalai Kappom, Tamizhagathai Meetppom roadshow in Karaikudi on Tuesday, he said Mr. Stalin claimed that 46 problems could be solved, but it was surprising how he learnt about the problems 'so soon' after four years. Everyone knew that Mr. Stalin was good in naming schemes and programmes, but he did not realise that he would not be solving them as he would be defeated in the upcoming election, he added. Criticising the State government's latest announcement that farmers should submit their CIBIL score while procuring loans, Mr. Palaniswami said how a Chief Minister could be so insensitive to issue such an order. 'I had to seek the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the announcement that could hinder planting of crops,' he added. Mr. Palaniswami said another blow to the rural people from the DMK government was the order to seal unlicensed buildings. 'As everyone knows that a villager who owns a vacant land will simply build a house for his family. Even if the government wants to prevent erection of such buildings, why should it do it without alerting them?,' he questioned. By making obtaining licence compulsory for even petty shops the DMK government was paving way for corruption. 'Will any licence be given to the meagre-earning people without any corruption?,' he asked. The DMK was illegally earning ₹5,400 crore a month from Tasmac by selling bottles at an extra price, he noted. Mr. Palaniswami listed out various taxes and wondered if any government would even think of collecting tax for garbage. Stating that the DMK government would go to any extent for its own benefit, he said the ₹1,000 assistance for women was one such self-promoting scheme being implemented. The government had borrowed about ₹5.2 lakh crore in the last four years, even when the revenue had doubled in 2025 when compared to 2021, he added. Terming the DMK government opportunistic, Mr. Palaniswami appealed to the people to vote for the AIADMK alliance to bring an end to the DMK government.
