Local 'madam' Among 93 Detained In KL Immigration Raid On Nightspot, Dorm
Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the entertainment centre offered RM3,000 necklace garlands to entice foreign GROs for stage shows at the nightspot.
In the first raid at 11.45 pm yesterday, the individuals detained included the local woman manager, three Thai and Vietnamese women, four Taiwanese women, five Bangladeshi men, and three men and a woman from China.
'All foreigners were detained under Section 6(1)c (no work permit) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39B (misuse of social visit pass) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 while local citizens were detained under Section 56(1)(d) (for harbouring illegal immigrants) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,' he told reporters at the location of the second raid here.
Wan Mohammed Saupee also said the remaining 72 individuals were detained at a shophouse said to be illegally rented out to undocumented migrants at RM500 per room.
'Most of those detained were Indonesians with 28 men and 26 women, followed by 11 Bangladeshi men, two Myanmar nationals, two Indians, two Pakistanis and one Nepalese man. All were arrested under Section 15 (1) c (for overstaying) and Section 6 (1) c (no visit pass) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.
He reminded all undocumented migrants to participate in the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0, which has been extended until April 30 next year, specifically for Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
He said immigration checks will ensure Kuala Lumpur remains a safe and tranquil capital.
"Based on operational statistics, the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department will conduct raids every two weeks, especially in the Chow Kit area, which is identified as a hotspot with many undocumented foreigners working illegally here," he said.

Rally Ends Peacefully Without Incident
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- The rally at Dataran Merdeka today concluded peacefully without any untoward incident with about 18,000 individuals attending. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said they were grateful for the good cooperation shown by participants, who did not create any problems throughout the rally. 'Everything went smoothly, even though there were one or two things that might not have been agreed upon initially, but were resolved well,' he told reporters after the rally ended this evening. He also advised the organisers to be more transparent in sharing information with the authorities in the future to ease security and logistic controls. 'Malaysians have the right to gather, and to gather peacefully. In terms of safety, that's the most important. Sometimes if we don't allow an event, it usually is due to a safety issue, as that is a responsibility of the police,' he said, adding that 3,000 police officers and personnel were mobilised to ensure safety throughout the duration of the rally. Mohamed Usof also said the police would study the speeches delivered by several leaders at the rally, especially if there were elements touching on 3R (religion, race, royalty) or seditious in nature. 'The right to gather peacefully is there, but we are still bound by existing laws. If there are violations, action will be taken according to legal provisions,' he said, adding that there were over 60 reports lodged regarding the rally, mostly by those who disagreed with it being organised. 'We are not involved in this': Laos denies reports on border clash with Cambodian forces

The Lao People's Army News, the official publication of the Lao military, confirmed that no official reports had been received regarding the incident. Earlier in the day, some media outlets reported that the Lao military had issued an emergency notice claiming a fierce exchange of fire between Lao forces and Cambodian armed personnel who had allegedly crossed the border illegally. According to these reports, 10 individuals were arrested and weapons were seized, with a screenshot of the purported statement attached. However, upon verification, the screenshot was found to be from a statement issued on Friday by the Military Special Operations Force of Champasak province of Laos. The statement detailed that during clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces from July 24 to July 25, 10 artillery shells had landed on Laotian territory. The statement also noted that it was unclear which side had fired the shells. "The Laotian authority has not accused or launched an investigation into this case yet, but the Thai side has accused Cambodia," Cambodian defense ministry's undersecretary of state and spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said in a press briefing. The Cambodian army "has launched counterattacks by focusing only on Thai military bases," she added. Socheata also refuted Thai media reports that Cambodia has threatened to use long-distance PHL03 missiles to strike Thailand. Thailand's Second Army Region on Saturday said in a social media post that the shells that landed on Laos during Thai-Cambodian border clashes, as reported by some media outlets, came from the Cambodian forces. The Thai side expressed its deep regret for the damage to the houses and properties of Lao people, yet after verification and coordination with the Lao side, it was confirmed that the shells did not come from the Thai army but were fired by Cambodian forces, the Thai army said. Thailand's Channel 7 earlier reported that it was said during the clashes between Thailand and Cambodia on Saturday morning, 10 artillery shells landed in Laos, damaging civilian houses.
