'Stargate UAE' AI datacenter to begin operation in 2026

Economic Times23-05-2025

The first phase of a massive new artificial data center in the United Arab Emirates will come online in 2026, likely with 100,000 Nvidia chips.
The "Stargate UAE" project is part of a deal brokered last week by U.S. President Donald Trump to build the world's largest set of AI data centers outside the United States, despite previous U.S. restrictions on sending advanced technology to the UAE because of its close ties to China.
The 10-square-mile (26-sq-km) site in Abu Dhabi will eventually host 5 gigawatts worth of data centers.
The first phase of that project will be the 1-gigawatt Stargate UAE project, built by state-backed UAE firm G42 in partnership with US firms OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia and Cisco Systems, as well as Japan's SoftBank Group. The companies on Thursday said that the Stargate UAE project will use Nvidia's Grace Blackwell GB300 systems, currently the most advanced AI server that Nvidia offers.
The first 200 megawatts of capacity will go live in 2026, the companies said. The group did not give a number of servers, but analyst firm TrendForce estimates that GB300 servers with 72 chips each consume about 140-kilowatts of power, which equates to about 1,400 servers or 100,000 Nvidia chips.
This first-in-the-world platform will enable every UAE government agency and commercial institution to connect their data to the world's most advanced AI models," Larry Ellison, Oracle's chief technology officer and chairman, said in a statement. The Trump administration earlier this month rescinded a rule put in place by President Joe Biden that would have restricted the flow of AI chips to countries such as the UAE. The U.S. Commerce Department, which oversees export controls, has not said what will replace the rule but said last week that it will convene a working group between the U.S. and UAE to ensure that the project meets "robust U.S. security standards and other efforts to responsibly deploy AI infrastructure, both in the UAE and globally."

Elon Musk and Donald Trump's big ugly breakup of bromance: From Epstein files to Tesla stock — a timeline

Donald Trump vs Elon Musk: What started as a 'big, beautiful' bromance between US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk ended in a public feud that escalated to a point of a possible no return. The very public spat between Donald Trump and Elon Musk reached its peak on Thursday when the Tesla CEO launched a barrage of attacks on the President on social media. Here is everything that happened between Donald Trump and Elon Musk since he left the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Elon Musk last week announced his decision to leave the White House and DOGE, citing that his tenure as a special government employee had come to an end. 'As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,' he said in a post on X. Days later, Trump announced he would organise a press conference with Elon Musk to bid him farewell. Everything between the duo seemed okay at the time, though Musk had previously criticised Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' intended to cut taxes. Trump was full of praise for Musk. He called Musk 'one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced', seemingly downplaying the rift that was already brewing between them with the Tesla CEO being 'disappointed' with the provisions of the bill. The rift between the world's most powerful leader and the world's richest person took a public turn on June 3, with Elon Musk blasting Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' of tax breaks and spending cuts as a 'disgusting abomination'. 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' Musk posted on X. 'This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.' However, Trump did not lash out like he typically does. Trump's silence did not stop Musk from backing off. On Thursday, the spat became very public when the Tesla CEO made a series of posts on X, sharing 2013 posts of the President. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk claimed. He continued to make further claims, eventually dropping a bombshell that the Jeffery Epstein files were not released in full because Donald Trump was involved in the case. Eventually, Donald Trump let slip that he was disappointed in his former adviser, prompting Musk to unleash a flood of insults and taunts. Trump could hold back no longer. He posted that Musk had been 'wearing thin,' that he had 'asked him to leave' his administration, that the tech titan had 'gone CRAZY.' After a series of X posts lambasting the President and threatening to decommission a space capsule used to take astronauts and supplies to the International Space Station, Musk agreed that he would not do it. It was unclear how serious Musk's threat was, but several hours later — in a reply to another X user — he said he wouldn't do it. This gave way to some people thinking of a possible truce in sight, with Trump's White House aides reportedly arranging to schedule a call with the POTUS and Tesla CEO on Friday. However, quashing all hopes, a White House official said on Friday that Trump was not interested to talk to Musk, at least today. The White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that no phone call between Trump and the Tesla CEO was planned for the day. Earlier, a different White House official had said the two were going to talk. Tesla shares rose on Friday, managing to claw back some steep losses from the previous session when it dropped 14 per cent and lost $150 billion in value, the largest single-day decline in the company's history.

Govt. inks pact with NVIDIA on establishment of AI University in Andhra Pradesh

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has forged a partnership with NVIDIA to take forward establishment of the proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in the State and foster a robust AI ecosystem through skilling, research, infrastructure development, and startup acceleration. As part of the agreement, the two parties will work together to skill 10,000 engineering students across Andhra Pradesh over the next two years. NVIDIA will also provide curriculum guidance and technical training resources to support AI education and capacity-building in engineering colleges. In addition to workforce development, the MoU also focuses on enhancing research and development capabilities. NVIDIA will support the identification and establishment of AI research centres that will address pressing technological challenges and develop transformative solutions across sectors. Both parties will encourage joint research initiatives that contribute to the growth of AI knowledge and applications. IT Minister Nara Lokesh said by equipping 10,000 students with cutting-edge AI skills and supporting the startup ecosystem, the State was laying the foundation for a future-ready economy driven by innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. The collaboration will further extend to the development of cutting-edge computational infrastructure required for the proposed AI University. NVIDIA will assist in identifying the necessary tools, software platforms, and hardware capabilities to ensure the university is equipped to deliver world-class education and research outcomes. Managing Director, Asia South, NVIDIA, Vishal Dhupar, said, 'Together, we aim to create a model that can inspire similar efforts across the country.' Another key aspect of the MoU is sharing of experience and best practices in establishing next-generation AI Factories. NVIDIA will provide insights from its global expertise in operationalising AI Factories that serve as hubs for innovation, industry collaboration, and talent incubation aimed at democratisation of AI. A strong focus on entrepreneurship is also a thrust area of the partnership. The government intends to facilitate up to 500 AI-focused startups from the State in applying to the NVIDIA Inception Programme during the term of the MoU, subject to the programme's eligibility criteria and availability. This initiative is expected to create a significant boost to the startup ecosystem in the region by providing emerging companies with access to NVIDIA's global network, technical resources, and market opportunities.
