UAE joins Jordan, EU countries in Gaza humanitarian airdrops

LONDON: The UAE and Jordan, alongside Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France, carried out humanitarian airdrops on Thursday to help deliver relief to the 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The aid airdrop was the 71st of Operation Birds of Goodness, part of the UAE's Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in support of Palestinians facing Israeli attacks, reported the Emirates News Agency. The aid included essential food supplies which had been donated by charities in the UAE. Since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict in late 2023, the UAE has delivered 3,956 tonnes of various items, including food and essential supplies. The initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, enhancing resilience, and promoting humanitarian assistance in crisis areas, added WAM.

UK's Starmer ‘gravely concerned' about targeting of journalists in Gaza

LONDON: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is 'gravely concerned' about the repeated targeting of journalists in Gaza, his spokesperson said on Monday, after five reporters were killed in an Israeli airstrike. Israel's military said it targeted and killed prominent Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al Sharif, alleging he had headed a Hamas militant cell and was involved in rocket attacks on Israel. Al Jazeera, which is funded by the Qatari government, rejected the assertion, and before his death, Al Sharif had also rejected such claims by Israel. 'We are gravely concerned by the repeated targeting of journalists in Gaza,' Starmer's spokesperson told reporters. 'Reporters covering conflicts are afforded protection under international humanitarian law, and journalists must be able to report independently, without fear, and Israel must ensure journalists can carry out their work safely.' Asked about the claim that one of the journalists was linked to Hamas, Starmer's spokesperson said: 'That should be investigated thoroughly and independently, but we are gravely concerned by the repeated targeting of journalists.'

UAE sends 200 trucks via Egypt to aid Palestinians in Gaza

LONDON: The UAE has sent more than 200 aid trucks in the past two weeks to assist Palestinians in the coastal enclave of Gaza who are suffering from hunger and starvation due to the ongoing war. Ten UAE aid convoys have entered the Gaza Strip via Egypt's Rafah Crossing since late July as part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 to support Palestinians, the Emirates News Agency has reported. The convoys include 214 trucks transporting over 4,565 tonnes of humanitarian aid, food supplies, equipment, and pipes for desalination plants, the WAM added. An Emirati team in the Egyptian port town of Al-Arish oversaw the loading and transportation of aid through the Rafah Crossing. It was earmarked for families and individuals in the Gaza Strip. The UAE's humanitarian efforts in Gaza reflect its commitment to support the Palestinian people, a statement said. Emirati humanitarian teams are intensifying relief operations to assist Palestinians in Gaza, helping to alleviate suffering while providing necessities to vulnerable groups, the WAM added. The UN — alongside several human rights organizations — has warned of mass starvation in Gaza as about 2 million Palestinians have endured almost two years of attacks from Israeli forces and the blocking of sufficient supplies from entering the territory. The Israeli security cabinet on Friday approved plans for further military operations in Gaza, igniting global outrage.
