The second sonic boom of the day echoed across Florida's Space Coast on April 21 as a
Falcon 9
booster safely returned to Cape Canaveral after lifting off with the Bandwagon-3 rideshare mission, SpaceX's third such launch offering
small satellite deployment
services.
The evening liftoff at 8:48 pm ET from
Space Launch Complex 40
marked the second Falcon 9 launch of the day, following the morning's CRS-32 cargo mission to the International Space Station from Kennedy Space Center.
Within just hours, SpaceX demonstrated its increasing launch cadence and versatility.
Bandwagon-3 carried three commercial payloads:
425Sat-3
from South Korea's Agency for Defense Development (ADD), Tomorrow-S7 by
Tomorrow Companies Inc
, and the Phoenix 1
reentry capsule
built by German firm
Atmos Space Cargo
.
These missions reflect the growing appeal of SpaceX's rideshare services, which offer cost-effective access to orbit for small payloads without requiring full rocket bookings.
According to Space.com, Phoenix 1 is the first reentry capsule ever launched by a European company. It aims to test an inflatable atmospheric decelerator during its return journey, expected to splash down in the Atlantic roughly 1,200 miles off Brazil's coast after a single orbit.
Atmos Space Cargo called the mission a step toward 'revolutionising space logistics' and enabling "microgravity research, in-orbit manufacturing, defense applications and life sciences."
Meanwhile, Tomorrow Companies Inc. is developing a satellite constellation using AI and data to improve global weather resilience. Its Tomorrow-S7 payload is part of that initiative. The specifics of its mission remain closely held, reported Fox 35 Orlando.
425Sat-3 forms part of South Korea's broader 425 Project, which strengthens the country's military surveillance capabilities.
After payload deployment, the Falcon 9's first-stage booster, flying for the third time after previously launching SES's O3b mPOWER-E and Nasa's Crew-10, returned to Landing Zone 2 at Cape Canaveral, triggering a sonic boom that was heard across nearby areas, reported Florida Today.
The Bandwagon series began in April 2024 and has since expanded SpaceX's ability to serve a variety of clients.
To date, the company has launched over 1,130 small satellites for 130 customers under its rideshare program. SpaceX also operates a separate Transporter line of rideshare missions, which began in 2021 and still holds the single-launch record of 143 satellites.
The next SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral is scheduled for no earlier than April 24 at 9:32 pm (local time), carrying Starlink 6-74 internet satellites.
United Launch Alliance's Amazon Kuiper mission is also slated for liftoff from the Cape no earlier than April 28.

Morgan Stanley is shopping a $5 billion debt package for world's richest man Elon Musk, here's what it is for

Morgan Stanley is reportedly arranging a $5 billion debt package for Elon Musk's AI company xAI Corp . According to a report in Bloomberg, quoting sources familiar with the matter, this marks another fundraising effort by the world's richest man Elon Musk across his business ventures. Launched on Monday (June 2), the debt package reportedly comprises a term loan B, a fixed-rate term loan, and senior secured notes, the source said, speaking anonymously as the information is not public. The funds will support general corporate purposes, with commitments due by June 17. The debt is reportedly tied to XAI Holdings, which encompasses Musk's AI startup and his social-media platform X, formerly Twitter. xAI has been heavily investing in its Memphis data center, Colossus, which could benefit from the debt proceeds. The facility currently operates 200,000 GPUs for AI training, with plans to add 1 million more nearby, Musk revealed in a CNBC interview. This follows a report that xAI is raising $300 million through a stock sale. Bloomberg earlier reported that XAI Holdings was seeking $20 billion in funding, reflecting strong investor interest in AI and Musk's influence as a business and political figure. Musk, a prominent supporter of President Donald Trump, recently stepped down from an administration role after driving significant government changes and placing allies in key positions following Trump's reelection. Neuralink raises $650 million Additionally, Musk's Neuralink Corp. announced a $650 million Series-E funding round, backed by investors like ARK Invest, DFJ Growth, and Founders Fund. "This funding helps us bring our technology to more people — restoring independence for those with unmet medical needs and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with brain interfaces," Neuralink said. The company is said to have started clinical trials for the device, which has a chip that processes neural signals that can be transmitted to computers or phones, in three countries. According to the company, five patients with severe paralysis are using Neuralink to control digital and physical devices with their thoughts. AI Masterclass for Students. Tesla not interested in manufacturing in India, says Kumaraswamy; government issues guidelines for domestic EV manufacturing

New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle giant, is not interested in manufacturing in India and is keen on opening showrooms, Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said on Monday. The remarks came amid government's push to promote domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). ' are only to start showrooms. They are not interested in manufacturing in India,' the minister said. Heavy Industry Secretary Kamran Rizvi, however, added 'the real intent we'll know when we open the application'. 'If the company still feels like investing. What the minister sir is telling is about what come and told informally,' he said. The minister added that many European companies like Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Skoda and Kia have shown interest in manufacturing units in India under the new EV policy. Earlier, there were reports that Tesla was interested in importing Tesla car into India and subsequently sell it through their showrooms in India. Tesla boss Musk had in the past indicated that he was interested in investing in India, but 'high import duty' structures were a bone of contention. Tesla's intention to come into India had intensified after India announced its new EV policy, under which import duty was reduced to 15 per cent and many incentives were provided for setting up manufacturing plant in India. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's father Servotec's Errol Musk, who is in India, appeared keen on Tesla's presence in the country. 'That is something that I have to be careful not to say too much about. Tesla is a public company. It's not you look at India and the population, the kind of people you've got here, the energy and everything and when I hear that, with great respect, BYD and various others are coming in, and Tatas and Mahindra are making great cars, I'm very inclined to say, wait, why aren't we having Teslas here. But I can't say too much. That's just a personal point of view,' he said. He was answering a query about plans for Tesla's presence in India. The central government on Monday notified guidelines for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India. The central government approved a forward-looking scheme to promote the domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). The initiative is aligned with India's national goals of achieving net zero by 2070, fostering sustainable mobility, driving economic growth, and reducing environmental impact. It is designed to firmly establish India as a premier global destination for automotive manufacturing and innovation. Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has issued a notification regarding detailed guidelines for the 'Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India' (SPMEPCI / the Scheme)MHI had issued the Scheme notification on March 15 2024. The Department of Revenue also issued the notification on March 15, 2024 for reduced import duties in line with the provisions of the Scheme. The Notice for inviting applications under the Scheme is proposed to be notified shortly, whereby the prospective applicants would be able to submit online applications. The scheme shall help to attract investments from global EV manufacturers and promote India as a manufacturing destination for e-vehicles. The Scheme will also help put India on the global map for manufacturing of EVs, generate employment and achieve the goal of 'Make in India'. To encourage the global manufacturers to invest under the Scheme, the approved applicants will be allowed to import Completely Built-in Units (CBUs) of e-4W with a minimum CIF value of USD 35,000 at reduced customs duty of 15% for a period of 5 years from the Application Approval Date. Approved applicants would be required to make minimum investment of Rs. 4,150 crore in line with the provisions of the scheme. (ANI)

XChat launch: Elon Musk to release app this week, will it replace WhatsApp?

Elon Musk unveils XChat, an encrypted messaging and calling feature rolling out on X this week. With end-to-end encryption, file sharing, and vanishing messages, XChat aims to rival WhatsApp and advance Musk's vision of turning X into an 'everything app". Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads A Step Toward the 'Everything App' Tech World Watches Closely FAQs What is XChat? Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads When will XChat be available? In a fresh push toward transforming his social media platform X into a comprehensive digital ecosystem, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced that XChat, a new encrypted messaging and calling service, will begin rolling out to users this week. The development marks a significant expansion of X's capabilities, raising questions about whether Musk's platform could become a viable competitor to WhatsApp, the dominant player in the messaging space, as mentioned in a report by announcement, made by Musk via a post on X on Monday, outlined key features of XChat, including end-to-end encryption, vanishing messages, the ability to share 'any kind of file,' and the option to make audio or video calls without the need for a phone new functionalities will be layered onto the platform's existing direct messaging service, which originally stemmed from its predecessor, stated the rollout will begin 'this week,' barring any technical issues. Reports indicate that some paying subscribers on X Premium have already begun accessing early iterations of the XChat service, suggesting limited testing is underway.A notable emphasis has been placed on privacy and encryption. Musk previously said he aimed to make direct messaging on X mirror the encrypted platform Signal, known for its strong security protocols. In his Monday post, Musk mentioned that XChat would adopt 'Bitcoin-style encryption'.However, this has drawn scrutiny from tech experts, as Bitcoin does not use encryption in a conventional sense but instead relies on cryptography and digital signatures to secure its blockchain Musk's intent appears to be reinforcing privacy standards that go beyond those of many mainstream messaging apps. He has also previously criticised Meta-owned WhatsApp, alleging it lacks sufficient user security—a claim WhatsApp has repeatedly denied, as mentioned in a report by introduction of XChat is part of Musk's broader vision to transform X into an 'everything app,' a goal he articulated before acquiring Twitter in a $44 billion deal in October 2022. The idea draws inspiration from Chinese super apps like WeChat, which combine messaging, social networking, payments, shopping, and has already initiated steps toward this model. In January, he announced a partnership with Visa to enable peer-to-peer payments on X, putting it in direct competition with services like Zelle and Venmo. The platform has also integrated Grok, an AI-powered chatbot, as part of its growing suite of features.X CEO Linda Yaccarino has echoed Musk's ambitions, calling the rollout of financial and messaging tools central to the company's launch of XChat could signal a new era for digital communications, especially if it manages to scale and attract a global user base. While WhatsApp currently dominates the messaging market with over 2 billion active users, XChat's promise of integrated functionality, privacy, and a social media backbone could position it as a disruptive force—if executed now, all eyes are on Musk and whether XChat, poised to debut this week, can indeed carve out a meaningful space in the saturated messaging app is a new encrypted messaging and calling service introduced by Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter), offering secure text, audio, video, and file-sharing to Musk, the rollout will begin this week. Some X Premium subscribers have reportedly started seeing early access.
