Bangladesh: More legal woes for Chinmoy Krishna Das; Chattogram court orders Hindu monk's arrest in lawyer murder case
In more trouble for Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Bangladesh court on Monday ordered his arrest in a murder case involving the brutal killing of a lawyer outside a court in Chattogram last November.
Das, a former ISKCON leader, is already in jail after he was arrested at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on November 25 last year in a sedition case over alleged defamation of the Bangladeshi flag.
The Hindu leader's arrest had sparked widespread protests, with his followers demonstrating in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
In Chattogram, the protest had turned violent when assistant government prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death.
"He (Das) was shown arrested in the murder case of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif under a court order,' Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner Mafiz Uddin told reporters after the virtual hearing on Monday.
Metropolitan magistrate SM Alauddin issued the arrest order after accepting a police petition during the hearing, the court officials said, as per news agency PTI report.
Public prosecutor Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan said the police submitted applications seeking orders to show him arrested in four cases, while the court accepted only one of the petitions related to the lawyer's murder.
Last week, a high court bench had ordered Chinmoy Krishna Das' release on bail, but the Appellate Division's chamber judge Justice Rezaul Haque stayed the ruling after it was challenged by the state.
The stay order will remain in force until the filing of a leave-to-appeal petition and the release of the full text of the judgment.
'In order to prevent Chinmoy Prabhu from being released, even after being granted bail by the High Court, he was shown arrested in Chittagong court,' said Das' lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, according to an ANI report.
'None of Chinmoy's lawyers were able to appear in the Chittagong court. The prosecution unilaterally did the hearing,' he said.

'This is Horrific. There are a number of these unauthorized Ziplines operating all over India. Strict Action is needed against these operators to prevent such accidents,' a user wrote. 'Never, ever do adventure sports in India. You've got zero-experience folks running the show, no guardrails, no safety protocols, no clue about first aid and absolutely no fear of legal consequences,' another user commented. 'Travelling inside India itself is an adventure!' a third user reacted. In January, a tourist from Tamil Nadu died after the paraglider he was on collided with another paraglider. The incident happened at the Gadsa paragliding site in Kully and also left the pilot severely injured.

Maheshtala violence: Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari meets victims in Kolkata, demands NIA probe
Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari Saturday met with the victims of the Maheshtala communal violence and provided them financial relief at a BJP party office in South Kolkata. After meeting 23 affected families, Adhikari told media persons, 'In the last 48 hours, there has been no initiative by the state government, municipal or district administration, police administration, or even local councillors, MLAs, or MPs to provide compensation to the victims. That's why the BJP has taken the initiative to stand by the affected people.' Requesting everyone not to reveal the identities of the victims, he said, 'Women are also being threatened. An atmosphere of fear has been created there. Therefore, like Dhulian and Shamsherganj, paramilitary forces should be deployed there immediately, and there should be a route march. But the state government will not do this, and the central government does not have this authority.' The BJP leader stated that he had full faith in the court, and added, 'The court is hearing this matter again on Monday. I hope that by next week, the court will come forward to end the insecurity and the atmosphere of fear that is prevailing in the outskirts of Kolkata.' Till now, around 40 people have been arrested for their role in the violence. About a dozen personnel of the Kolkata Police, including the deputy commissioner of the Port area, were injured in the clashes. Seven FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence. Adhikari has filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Calcutta High Court demanding CRPF deployment in the area. He also filed a petition seeking permission from the Calcutta High Court to visit Maheshtala.

DNA of 32 Air India crash victims identified, bodies handed over to 14 families
Three days after an Air India Boeing plane en route to London from Ahmedabad crashed five minutes after take-off, authorities have identified the DNA of 32 out of 270 victims and have handed over the bodies to 14 Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims whose DNA was matched at around 11:10 am, and his body was handed over to his family at 1 of the victims that have been identified so far belong from Gujarat and Rajasthan, reported news agency PTI.
