Who is Sean Gardner? Former gymnastics coach at Iowa academy arrested on child porn charges

A former coach at a well-known youth gymnastics center in Iowa was arrested after investigators found a large amount of child pornography at his home, as reported by the New York Post. The arrest comes years after he was accused of sexually abusing several young athletes. Agents searched his home and found hundreds of images of children. Who is Sean Gardner ?
Sean Gardner, 38, was taken into custody by the FBI for producing child pornography. The investigation began after reports of inappropriate contact with gymnasts at Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The FBI said Gardner 'primarily targeted children' at gyms in Iowa, Mississippi, and Louisiana. He worked in those states for about ten years until 2014. Chow's Gymnastics is known for training Olympic gold medalists Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas, as reported by AP.

Gymnast's 2022 report to SafeSport sparked investigation
Police in West Des Moines started investigating Gardner in March 2022. A gymnast reported his behavior to the US Center for SafeSport, which looks into sexual abuse in Olympic sports.
The gymnast said Gardner touched her inappropriately during practices, asked personal questions like whether she was sexually active, and called her and others names such as 'idiots, sluts, and whores,' according to the Associated Press.
In July 2022, four months later, Gardner was suspended by SafeSport for 'allegations of misconduct.' Chow's also removed him from his coaching position.
At first, the gymnast chose not to press charges, and the case was paused. In April 2024, another gymnast came forward with new claims.
She said she began lessons with Gardner in 2019, when she was 11 or 12, and thought of him as a 'father figure.' She later said he touched her inappropriately during exercises, had her perform stretches that made her uncomfortable, recorded her on his phone, and talked about his sex life.
About 16 months later, police got a warrant to search Gardner's home.
Hidden camera footage of girls found in 2024 search
In May 2024, officers seized several electronic devices. They found hundreds of images and videos of girls between 6 and 14 years old. Many were nude, changing clothes, or using the bathroom. Investigators believe the footage came from a hidden camera at Jump'In Gymnastics in Purvis, Mississippi, and was recorded between 2017 and 2018.
Police also found handwritten notes between Gardner and former students during the search.

Dutch Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia targeted in Deepfake pornography scandal, FBI steps in

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, heir to the Dutch throne, has become the target of a disturbing deepfake pornography scandal. The 21-year-old's face was edited over the bodies of porn actors using artificial intelligence, which was then circulated online, the Daily Beast reported. According to reports, the clips appeared on platforms such as MrDeepFakes, which has since been taken down. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), working alongside Dutch authorities, intervened to remove the websites. However, no arrests have been made so far. Investigators also found that nearly 70 other Dutch women were featured in similar manipulated content. This is not the first time Princess Amalia has faced such a violation. In 2022, similar AI-generated videos featuring her image were widely circulated online. Dutch news outlet Seher Og Hor reported that the princess was given a 'starring role' in the manipulated clips. Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria, born on December 7, 2003, is the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. As the Princess of Orange, she is the heir apparent to the Dutch throne — a title she has held since 2013 when her father became king. Ironically, the young royal has studied the very issue that has now affected her. As part of her Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) programme at the University of Amsterdam, her bachelor's thesis explored the dangers of manipulated media. Titled 'Beyond Disclosure: Bridging the Gap Between the Artificial Intelligence Act and the Charter of Fundamental Rights with Deepfaked Bodies,' her research examined the conflict between European AI legislation and fundamental rights in the age of deepfakes.

Lebanon releases Israeli citizen held in detention for year

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Tel Aviv, Aug 21 (AP) An Israeli citizen detained in Lebanon has been returned to Israel after more than a year in detention, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said on Thursday. There was little information given about the man, identified as Salah Abu-Hussein, an Arab citizen of Israel. His imprisonment had not garnered public attention in Israel or Lebanon. Israeli media reported that the man's family had reported him missing around a year ago and was unaware he was in Lebanon. Four Lebanese security and judicial officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly about the case, said the man had entered the country illegally by crossing the land border between the two countries and was then caught by Lebanese security officials. At the time of his crossing, Israeli forces and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah were engaged in ongoing low-level clashes in the border region, which escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024. It was halted by a US-brokered ceasefire two months later. Abu-Hussein's release was negotiated in secret over the past few months in cooperation with the Red Cross, according to Gal Hirsch, Netanyahu's coordinator for the Hostages and the Missing, who is also Israel's point of contact for the hostages in Gaza. On Thursday, Lebanese Authorities handed Abu-Hussein to Hirsch at the Rosh Hanikra crossing between Lebanon and Israel, which is not open to the public. Lebanon and Israel do not have diplomatic relations and Israeli citizens are prohibited from entering Lebanon under Lebanese law, with rare exceptions for Palestinians holding Israeli citizenship. Netanyahu hailed the return of Abu-Hussein. 'This is a positive step and a sign of things to come," he said after Abu-Hussein returned. There was no official comment from the Lebanese government on his release. A group advocating for Lebanese citizens held in Israeli prisons denounced the move. The Representative Committee of Lebanese Prisoners and Freed Prisoners said in a statement that 19 Lebanese citizens are imprisoned in Israel and called the release of the Israeli citizen by Lebanon 'blatant betrayal." ‘Tradition, not bribe': Ex New York mayor's aide defends giving reporter cash in chips bag

A former longtime adviser to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who resigned last year while under FBI scrutiny, handed a reporter a potato chip bag stuffed with cash after a campaign event, Associated Pres s reported citing a local outlet. The incident, first reported by The City, said that Adams' advisor Winnie Greco pressed the bag into one of its reporters, Katie Honan's hands following the opening of Adams' campaign headquarters in Harlem. Inside was a red envelope holding a $100 bill and several $20 bills. Greco's attorney, Steven Brill, insisted the gesture was not a bribe. 'This was not a bag of cash,' Brill wrote in an email, according to the AP. 'In the Chinese culture, money is often given to others in a gesture of friendship and gratitude. And that's all that was done here. Winnie's intention was born purely out of kindness.' Asked why Greco offered the money specifically to Honan, Brill as per AP told: 'She knows the reporter and is fond of her.' Greco texted Honan to meet her inside a Whole Foods after they had both attended the launch of Adams' campaign headquarters in Harlem, The City reported. At first, Honan assumed Greco was simply offering her a snack when she handed over the chip bag and declined, but Greco insisted. Honan later discovered the cash inside, called Greco to say she could not accept it, and offered to return it. Greco suggested they meet again but then stopped responding, according to the report. Later, Greco phoned The City and requested them not to publish the story, saying: 'I try to be a good person,' the outlet reported. She later apologised too, saying she made 'a mistake'. 'I'm so sorry. It's a culture thing. I don't know. I don't understand. I'm so sorry. I feel so bad right now.' In response, Adams' re-election campaign said Greco had been suspended from volunteer work and stressed that the mayor had no knowledge of her actions. 'We are shocked by these reports,' campaign aide Todd Shapiro told AP. 'Mayor Adams had no prior knowledge of this matter. He has always demanded the highest ethical and legal standards, and his sole focus remains on serving the people of New York City with integrity.' Greco, a fundraiser from the Chinese American community, resigned as Adams' director of Asian affairs in October 2024 after federal agents searched two of her properties. She has not been charged with a crime, but was among several close aides who left amid federal scrutiny of Adams' administration.
