‘Will Soon Be Safest': Trump Announces He'll Hold Presser Over Crime In Washington DC On Monday
President Trump announced a Monday press conference to address violent crime in DC, suggesting the use of the National Guard and control of the city's police force.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that a press conference would be held at the White House on Monday to address the increasing crime incidents in Washington, DC.
In a post on Truth Social, the US President claimed that Monday's presser would end violent crime in the capital city.
'On Monday a Press Conference will be held at the White House which will, essentially, stop violent crime in Washington, D.C. It has become one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World. It will soon be one of the safest!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT," Trump posted on Truth Social.
The announcement came days after Trump said that he may use the National Guard to police the streets of Washington, DC.
Trump said the ramp-up of security would last for seven days, 'with the option to extend as needed." On Wednesday, Trump threatened to take charge of the city's police force following an attempted hijacking in which an administration staffer was injured.
Monday's press conference is expected to outline the administration's plans to address violent crime in the capital.
Last week, a US government official was assaulted by a group of teenagers. Police have detained two 15-year-olds and have said they're still looking for other members of the group.

7,900 students participate in Tiranga Run in Delhi
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) As part of the Delhi government's celebrations for the 79th Independence Day, 7,900 students took part in a 'Tiranga Run' from Thyagaraj Stadium to the National War Memorial here on Sunday. Flagged off by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, the run was organised by the Directorate of Education under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign and the theme 'Dilli Uthe Garv Se' (Delhi Rises with Pride), a statement said. Holding the national flag, the participants covered the symbolic route to pay tribute to freedom fighters and armed forces personnel who laid down their lives for the country, it added.
