Warped killer butchered helpless student and put body parts in post

Daily Mirror5 days ago

Hundreds of citizen detectives were determined to learn the identity of depraved Luka Magnotta months before he committed a brutal murder, even warning authorities he was set to kill
Like several well known killers before him, twisted Luka Magnotta started out by abusing animals before he progressed to human slaughter. The murderer's sick online video of pet torture called '1 boy 2 kitten' would eventually prove to be his downfall after a group of animal loving citizen detectives tracked him down.
Now 42, Magnotta is behind bars in Canada for killing Chinese international student Jun Lin, 33, who he had met on a dating site. Back in May 2012, he filmed the sick murder of his victim and posted it online, calling it '1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick'.

Posted on a gore site, the horrific video showed Magnotta in dark clothing towering over blindfolded Lin as he stabbed him a hundred times. The depraved murderer later dismembered his victim's body before mailing it to various political parties in Toronto, sparking a huge police search.

His video contained clues - a poster for the movie Casablanca was above the bed, while New Order's track True Faith was playing in the background. And hundreds of cat-loving detectives were already on Magnotta's trail, coming close to catching him for his sick torture of animals.
A year and a half before he murdered Lin, a Facebook group had been mobilised after Magnotta posted footage of a figure in a dark green hoodie suffocating two tabby kittens using a vacuum and plastic bag. They spent thousands of hours analysing photographs for clues and metadata which they handed to law enforcement, convinced that just like serial killers like Ian Brady, the as yet unidentified Magnotta would go onto kill humans.
The internet sleuths identified a wolf blanket on the sick footage as one that retailed on eBay and could be shipped internationally from the US. From plug sockets to the size of the twin beds in the clip, everything was analysed to try and find the video's location.
The breakthrough came when one of the sleuths received a message: "The name of the kitten vacummer you are looking for is Luka Magnotta." Searching online found the man named seemingly living the life of a jet-setting top model, with wild rumours suggesting he had dated both Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Narcissistic Magnotta had created a false online profile for himself - in reality he was born in Toronto and became a stripper and porn star. Convicted of defrauding a vulnerable 21-year-old woman, he later filed for bankruptcy and in his quest for fame entered reality TV shows and created countless websites and news articles about himself.
When he failed to become a star he progressed to kitten torture, which did capture the public's attention for all the wrong reasons. Now armed with a name, the determined internet sleuths tracked Magnotta to a location in Toronto where police found he had already moved out.
The twisted torturer next made a video called 'Python Christmas ', which showed a live kitten being fed to a snake, before another showing a kitten being drowned in a bathtub. The sick clips were filmed in Islington, North London and Magnotta went onto meet a reporter from The Sun newspaper who had been alerted by the citizen detectives.

Chillingly, the killer later sent an email to the reporter which warned: "Next time you hear from me it will be in a movie I am producing that will have some humans in it, not just pussies... Once you kill and taste blood it's impossible to stop."
Magnotta's warning sadly came true five months later. After body parts were distributed, the killer's studio apartment in Montreal was found complete with a blood soaked mattress and he became one of Interpol's most wanted. And it was a Berlin internet cafe worker, Kadir Anlayisli, who snared him in the end - the eagle-eyed news lover recognised the killer looking up articles about himself.
Magnotta had achieved his dream of being famous and in 2014, he was jailed for 25 years in Montreal for first degree murder. He will become eligible for day parole in June 2034. His story was told on Netflix docu-series, Don't F**k with Cats'.

It is understood that the image was taken before Greg and his friends left their hotel, the Novochoro Apartments, on their way to the pubs of Albufeira. Greg went missing in the early hours of last Wednesday morning after flying out to the resort for a five-day stag do. He later told pals he was heading back to his holiday apartment on his own during their first night out after several hours of partying and drinking. Advertisement We told how Greg's loved ones are asking locals and UK expats in the area where he is last believed to have been seen to check their home CCTV and doorbell cameras for sightings. His worried parents and his girlfriend Nicole Ashleigh Kelso have travelled to the party resort for search for Greg amid growing fears he got lost on his first night out and could have suffered an accident. His return flight to Scotland was booked to leave last Friday afternoon. Today, Greg's cousin Alison Fraser, who is in Portugal looking for her relative, said the last official sighting of Greg was at 3.27 am on Wednesday, May 28. Thanking British holidaymakers and expats as well as locals for their massive support so far, Jillian said in a Facebook post. "As previously stated, this is so unlike Greg and we are truly desperate for answers. 'I am now seeking help from residents of the Cerro da Aguia area to please check any home cameras or doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on Wednesday as police believe he was in the area around this time. "Asking for people that live in Cerro da Aguia that have cameras that cover the street or parts of the street to send me a message with their name and phone number. Thank you for all the support.' A GoFundMe appeal set up on behalf of the family to help fund the hunt for Greg reached more than £18,665 as of this morning. A statement from Greg's family posted on Saturday night read: "We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated, shared, and offered kind words and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Advertisement "Your support means more to Greg's family than words can express. We also want to let you know that we are currently working with GoFundMe to ensure that all funds are securely managed. "In accordance with GoFundMe's policies, no donations will be transferred until Greg's mother has been officially added as the beneficiary of this fundraiser. "This step is in progress, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Advertisement "The search for Greg continues with the help of professional teams. "Your continued support is vital, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of love. "Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts." Greg's sister said last week she was worried he had got lost in unfamiliar surroundings and had an accident after going out drinking with his stag do pals. Advertisement Hospitals have been checked without success but police are not thought to have yet carried out an exhaustive search of medical centres, which have involved officers going round wards to check out patients who were admitted without proper identification. Jillian described her brother yesterday as a 'really hard worker' in his job and a 'quiet guy' whose disappearance immediately 'threw up a red flag.' She also revealed Greg has a Thor-type Viking unfinished tattoo at the top of his right arm which would be visible if he was wearing a vest top or had no shirt on.

Mum who claimed she struggled to get out of bath caught out by Facebook posts of her running

A deceitful mum who falsely claimed over £20,000 in benefits while participating in numerous running events has been ordered to repay the money. Sara Morris, 50, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2005 but exaggerated her condition in 2020 to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The mother of three lied about the severity of her MS, claiming she lacked the strength to stand at the cooker, had balance issues and struggled to get out of the bath without help. She also claimed that leaving the house caused her such anxiety that even a trip to the pharmacy to collect her medication would reduce her to tears. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard that she received £2,292.63 in PIP each month. However, she failed to inform the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) that she was an active member of the Stone Master Marathoners and regularly participated in 5km and 10km races. Her dishonesty was exposed by her own Facebook posts documenting her running activities. Morris, from Walton Way, Stone, was overpaid £20,528.83 between October 20, 2020 and April 25, 2023. She admitted to dishonestly making a false statement to obtain a benefit and was sentenced to eight months in prison last July, reports Stoke on Trent Live. Now she has reappeared at the same court for a Proceeds of Crime hearing. Judge Graeme Smith was told Morris benefited from her criminality by £22,386.02 and the available amount was £60,000. He ordered Morris to repay £22,386.02 within 28 days or serve nine months in prison in default. The court heard investigators carried out surveillance on Morris from February 5 to February 20, 2023. Prosecutor Regan Walters said: "On February 5 she took part in a five-mile race and was seen running without assistance and showed no signs of balance problems. On February 11 she was seen running with the Stone Master Marathoners and showed no signs of discomfort." The investigation uncovered that Morris competed in 73 races between May 2019 and December 2022. The defendant was interviewed on May 11, 2023 and she stated her MS had worsened and she was suffering from fatigue. But she confirmed she had been a member of Stone Master Marathoners running club prior to making her claim. She added she filled in her PIP form on her worst day. Paul Cliff, mitigating, said Morris was diagnosed with MS 19 years ago and the 'severity of its impact ebbs and flows to a degree'. Mr Cliff said: "But it is accepted by her that the application did not give the full picture. It crossed over into the realms of dishonesty." He said Morris's marriage broke down in the spring of 2020. He said Morris did not enjoy a lavish lifestyle as a result of her fraudulent claim. Mr Cliff said: "She lost her home because of financial problems and was struggling to keep her head above water financially. "The application did not give the full picture. She did say running was one of the ways she tried to manage her MS. She has found it difficult to come to terms with her dishonesty." Morris must also pay a £187 surcharge.
