‘Five-star epic' sequel to beloved action movie now streaming
One of the biggest blockbusters of last year is finally available to stream at no extra cost for Paramount+ subscribers
Paramount+ is finally home to one of the biggest movies of the 2020s that left action movie fans with their jaws on the floor.
Debuting in cinemas in November last year, this epic historical action film served as a long-awaited sequel to a modern classic set 16 years after the events of the original.
It blew audiences away, earning an impressive $462 million at the global box office and even picking up a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Golden Globes for an A-list member of the cast.
You can now stream it at home exclusively on Paramount+, so if you're already a subscriber to the service you won't have to pay a single extra penny to immerse yourself in this stunning spectacle.
We're, of course, referring to Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott at his best and starring Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Russell Crowe's iconic Maximus Decimus Meridius.
Sent away from Rome after the death of his father, Lucius is a soldier in Numidia living happily with his wife when General Acacius (played by Pedro Pascal) invades and takes him prisoner.
Like his father before him, Lucius is sold into slavery and forced to do battle in the legendary Colosseum under the mentorship of Macrinus (Globes nominee Denzel Washington), a former slave who aims to take Rome for himself.
Although Gladiator II received some mixed reviews from critics, picking up a 70 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, many fans of the original were thrilled by this nostalgic return, its 82 percent audience score on RT indicating most moviegoers loved the film.
One Google review reads: 'Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching Gladiator 2, and it was a beautifully nostalgic experience that exceeded my expectations.
'The film pays respectful homage to the original while introducing fresh elements that remain true to its tone. It is grand, elegant, sophisticated, and noble - ultimately delivering a deeply satisfying cinematic experience.'

They paid extra attention to Washington's barnstorming performance, adding: 'Denzel Washington's commanding presence elevates the film to new heights. His performance is nothing short of extraordinary, adding gravitas and a magnetic intensity to every scene.'
Another five-star review said: 'Gladiator II is a breathtaking sequel that not only pays homage to its predecessor but also carves out its own legendary path in cinematic history.
'Directed by the visionary Ridley Scott, this film transcends the expectations set by the original and delivers an experience that is both emotionally resonant and visually stunning.'
The film also has plenty of die-hard fans on the film social media platform Letterboxd, with one enthusiast writing: 'I'm in complete awe at what I've just watched, a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling.
'It's always such a true honour to witness a Sir Ridley Scott film on the big screen, you are always certain to be entertained through his pioneering work of modern cinema.
'The action sequences are brutal as we venture and return into the heart pounding, glorious and regimented Roman colosseum. This for sure lives up to the legacy of the predecessor.'
And a final fan gushed: 'Couldn't think of a better thing to do than stare at a sweaty bloody Paul Mescal for two and a half hours, my time is well spent.'

However, their final big score quickly descends into chaos as greed takes hold. Despite its stellar cast and gripping real-life story, King of Thieves failed to make a significant impact either commercially or critically. Box Office Mojo reports that the film only raked in $7,518 domestically in the United States and Canada, with just $3,502 earned during its opening weekend. Globally, the film grossed around $11.5 million at the box office, reports the Daily Record. The film's scenes were predominantly shot in central London and around Margate in Kent, showcasing venues like the Wig and Pen Pub, the Nayland Rock Hotel, Harbour Arm, outside Turner Contemporary, and Margate railway station. Additionally, one can spot Abbott's Cliff in Dover during the train sequence when Brian Reader (played by Michael Caine) heads to Margate. Both critics and audiences seemed underwhelmed by how the film was brought to life. Echoing the sentiment, a critic wrote: "The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves." Another reviewer pointed out: "King of Thieves really should have delivered way more cinematic swag than it does." Meanwhile, a commentator dissected the film's tone: "Torn between jaunty genre hijinks and a bleaker streak of realism, it's a strangely stiff, lethargic account of a cracking tale." The stinging critiques continued with a reviewer saying: "There is one joke in King of Thieves, and it's that the thieves are old. That's it-that's the whole movie," while another lamented: "Marsh had his hands on some very fancy jewels. What he didn't have, sadly, was the script to make them gleam." The audience feedback was similarly tepid, with one viewer saying: "Passes the time but little else. Tries hard to be both a comedy and a thriller but doesn't really succeed at either. For such a daring burglary, this could have surely been done a lot better." Paramount Global nominates three board directors as Skydance merger awaits approval
June 2 (Reuters) - Paramount Global (PARA.O), opens new tab nominated three new directors on Monday, seeking to boost its board strength to seven as it awaits regulatory approval for its $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media. Paramount nominated Mary Boies, counsel to Boies Schiller Flexner LLP, Charles Ryan, co-founder and general partner of Almaz Capital, and Roanne Sragow Licht, former justice and adjunct professor at Boston University and Roger Williams University. U.S. President Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against Paramount-owned CBS News in October, alleging that the network deceptively edited an interview with then-vice president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris, to "tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party" in the election. Trump's lawsuit is seen as a major roadblock to the Paramount-Skydance merger, according to some analysts. The merger requires approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, which has authority over the transaction because it needs to approve the transfer of the broadcast television licenses held by CBS. Paramount, chaired by Shari Redstone, reportedly offered $15 million to settle the suit. Trump raised his claim for damages to $20 billion in February. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the company wanted to ensure it had a full board in place in case its negotiations with Trump to settle his lawsuit fell through.
