Marjorie Taylor Greene becomes first Republican lawmaker to decry Gaza genocide

A recent X post by US House lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene has sparked a public dispute with fellow Republican Representative Randy Fine (R-FL), condemning his controversial remarks on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and accusing him of fueling antisemitism.
Greene's post directly challenged Fine's earlier statement, where he responded to reports of malnutrition deaths in Gaza by writing, "Release the hostages. Until then, starve away. (This is all a lie anyway. It amazes me that the media continues to regurgitate Muslim terror propaganda.)".
Fine, a freshman lawmaker, has a history of extreme anti-Palestinian rhetoric, including using hashtags like "#StarveAway" and stating there are "no such thing as innocent Palestinian civilians".
In her rebuke, Greene called Fine's statement "disgraceful" and asserted it "will actually cause more antisemitism".
Notably, Greene, a prominent figure in the MAGA movement, also used the term "genocide" to describe the situation in Gaza, a significant departure from the typical Republican stance of unconditional support for 'Israel'; making her the first Republican lawmaker to use the term.
This comes despite Greene's own past controversies involving antisemitic tropes and Holocaust comparisons .
The public spat highlights emerging divisions within the Republican Party on the Gaza aggression.
Even former President Donald Trump has "recalibrated" his stance, acknowledging "real starvation" in Gaza and stating, "We have to get the kids fed".
While some Jewish advocacy groups, like the American Jewish Committee, condemned Fine's remarks, others, such as AIPAC, denied pulling his endorsement .
Greene's post also resurrected a past personal disagreement, recalling Fine's alleged desire to live in Washington D.C. rather than his Florida district, adding a layer of personal animosity to the political clash.
Fine, who assumed office in April 2025, represents Florida's 6th congressional district and has opened multiple district offices .
In another recent post, MTG questioned whether 'innocent Israeli lives more valuable than innocent Palestinian and Christian lives?'
'And why should America continue funding this?'
'The secular government of nuclear armed Israel has proven that they are beyond capable of dealing with their enemies and are capable of and are in the process of systematically cleansing them from the land,' she continued.
She added that she will continue to 'push for world peace because that is the type of world I want for my children and all the world's children.'
As of July 2025, UNICEF indicated that over 320,000 children under five in Gaza are at risk of acute malnutrition, with thousands suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
The WHO documented 74 malnutrition-related deaths in 2025 alone by July, with 63 occurring in July, and Gaza's Health Ministry reported 82 deaths in July, including 24 children.
