Your House review – scavenger hunt through a delightfully difficult puzzle
Your House is inspired by a remarkable true story. Back in the 2000s, a rich New York couple paid architect Eric Clough to renovate their new apartment, with the slightly odd request that a poem about their family should be hidden away in one of the walls, like a time capsule. Inspired by this, Clough took it upon himself to make a few unorthodox modifications to the dwelling without his clients' knowledge.
Just over a year after the couple and their children had moved in to their home, Clough sent them a cryptic note. This clue led them to a hidden panel, behind which was a book, which in turn led them on a scavenger hunt through their own apartment. Clough had crammed the rooms with hidden messages and complex puzzles that it took the family weeks to solve. One involved wrapping a piece of leather cord around a bed post to reveal a message. Another involved removing two decorative knockers then joining them together to form a crank, which was used to wind open a hidden panel in the dining room, behind which were various keys and keyholes. All of this eventually led to the hidden poem.
Spanish indie studio Patrones & Escondites replicates this puzzle gauntlet in Your House, but rather than rich New Yorkers, you play as the troubled Debbie, who is having a terrible 18th birthday. She's just found out that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend – and she's been kicked out of boarding school to boot. But at midnight she receives an anonymous postcard with a key and an address, which leads her to a mysterious, deserted house.
Your House acts as a standalone prequel to the 2020 game Unmemory, but whereas this previous title utilised photos and film, Patrones & Escondites has adopted a comic book style here, reminiscent of artists like Daniel Clowes (Ghost World) or Jaime Hernandez (Love and Rockets). These illustrations – created by artist Jon Ander Torres – look gorgeous, but the majority of the game is delivered via text, presented like the chapters of a book. The occasional interactive word is highlighted in bold, and clicking on it will, say, take you to the named room or let you interact with a particular object.
This mechanism works best when the text gets playful, such as when Debbie walks through a narrow tunnel and the words spool out in a long horizontal line while the margins get smaller and smaller. But the ingenious puzzles are the real star of Your House, involving things like working out the correct sequence of notes to play on a piano to open a secret panel, or looking for the hidden pattern in a series of portraits. Most will require copious notes on pen and paper. The very best ones will leave you fruitlessly scratching your head, only for the answer to pop into your mind with a sudden rush of adrenaline, followed by a sense of elation as the combination clicks into place.
The third of the game's five chapters in particular is truly wonderful, presenting a warren of secret corridors and a series of interconnected puzzles that are particularly satisfying to solve with the help of night vision goggles that can reveal hidden writing. But sadly the game can't quite keep up this pace to the end, and despite the odd flash of brilliance, the quality of the final puzzles never quite reaches the height of those in the middle of the game. The plot, too, fizzles out unsatisfyingly, with a solution to the house's mystery that seems obvious and yet doesn't make much sense when held up to scrutiny. Still, the idea of a house with conundrums built into its very fabric remains tantalising: I couldn't help but give my own house a sweep after playing, just on the off-chance there might be a previously unnoticed hidden message or two.
Your House is released on 27 March

Heartbreaking Corrie scenes as Debbie confirms dementia diagnosis to loved ones
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) has been keeping a huge secret from (most of) her family recently in Coronation Street, after she was diagnosed with dementia. Proud, independent Debbie felt like she didn't want to burden her brother Kevin (Michael Le Vell) with the news, as he's already going through a tough time with cancer treatment. As for her relationship with Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), Debbie opted to dump him rather than tell him the truth. Debbie's split with Ronnie hasn't been easy for either of them, as they both love each other and had previously decided to get married. Ronnie has been left hurt and confused, while Debbie thinks he's already moved on as she's spotted him a few times in the company of Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson). So far the only person who knows about Debbie's diagnosis is her other brother, Carl (Jonathan Howard) – and he only found out by accident and has been sworn to secrecy by Debbie. But all that is about to change in an episode airing soon, where Debbie takes a sudden turn for the worse and is forced to open up to her family about what's really going on. Debbie and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) go to the Chariot Square bar for a few drinks to cheer Debbie up after she admits to Bernie that she's finding it hard to be in the same room as Ronnie. Also in the bar is Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey), and when he causes a fuss by failing to produce ID when asked, Debbie loses it with him. We've seen Debbie becoming irrationally angry before and it's a symptom of her condition, and this time she really loses control and smashes Brody's glass on the bar. The next day Bernie is worried about Debbie because of her behaviour at the bar but also because she forgets to pay at the cafe. She's under pressure because there's been a flood at the hotel and she's facing having to cancel an awards ceremony, but Leanne offers to host the event at Speed Daal. Debbie's grateful for that, but once again she sees Ronnie and Leanne together joking about something, and it bothers her. More Trending Then Debbie suddenly collapses. She wakes up to find Kevin and Abi (Sally Carman) by her side and they tell her she has to go to hospital. Debbie tells them there's no need for that. She knows what's wrong with her, she says – and tells them she has dementia. View More » How will they react to the bombshell news? ITV Love Island fans fiercely defend Scots star Alima Gagigo after brutal coupling up comment
Love Island fans were all saying the same thing just minutes into the first episode of Love Island tonight after Scots beauty Alima Gagigo received a harsh remark from the boy she had just chosen to couple up with. Love Island kicked off its twelfth season tonight with thirteen new contestants entering the iconic villa in the hopes of finding love under the Spanish sun. Seven gorgeous girls and six handsome hunks made their debut on the ITV dating show on Monday evening as they were welcomed by host Maya Jama. Among them is Glaswegian beauty Alima Gagigo who is the only Scot on Love Island this year so far. The 23-year-old graduate, chose to blindly couple up with construction project manager Blu Chegin after being drawn to his dating profile, but it seems there is already trouble in paradise for the pair. After Maya revealed that he had been chosen by Alima, Blu made a controversial comment as he said: "Every girl looks beautiful." Maya replied to his eyebrow raising remark as she repeated: "Yes but Alima chose you." Fans at home were quick to spot the awkward moment as they took to X to fume over Blue's careless remark. Alima, having already caught viewers attention thanks to her fiery stand out Scottish accent, has already garnered support from viewers after Blu brutally told her: "You're not my type on paper." Viewers at home were left furious by his comment as one wrote: "Alima is 100% out of Blu's league. His attitude is gross. #loveisland". After Alima told Blu she's not "feeling him", another fan chimed in: "LOVE that Alima called Blu's disrespectful a** out. #loveisland." A third agreed: "Alima clocking Blu's nonsense already. Glad she's a smart girl. #loveisland" A fourth remarked: "I need Alima to couple up with someone else so I can vote blu out effective immediately." Someone else applauded Alima: "Alima knowing her worth from day 1 & not settling for Blu #loveisland #loveislanduk". Another awkwardly pointed out: "Blu said he didn't have a type in his interview but Alima is not his type on paper. #LoveIsland" However, Alima herself has also already ran into an awkward moment which did not go unnoticed by fans. After claiming she could speak Spanish, she was put on the spot and asked to show off some of her multilingual talents. Fans were left cringing by the awkward scene and branded the 23-year-old as a 'liar' as one wrote: "I don't think Alima speaks Spanish #LoveIsland." Another remarked: "Alima a damn liar about I speak Spanish #LoveIsland." A third joked: "Alima is me when I lie on my CV. Don't ask me questions", alongside two laughing emojis. Somebody else who was amused by the moment wrote: "Alima adding Spanish to her CV just cos she speak Portuguese is too funny to me", alongside a laughing emoji A fifth wrote: "Alima is giving everyone that took GSCE Spanish and can only say hello my name is, guiltyyyy #LoveIsland". However, Alima could now find herself in trouble for tomorrow night's episode after bombshell American Islander Toni walked in to the villa and decided to couple up with Ben, who was originally coupled up with Shakira, leaving Shakira single. Maya announced at the end of Monday's night episode that Shakira would need to spend the next 24 hours getting her graft on and getting to know the other boys to keep her place in the villa. In scenes that are likely to air on ITV on Tuesday evening, Shakira will select the boy she wants to steal from another girl. However, there is a catch. The chosen male Islander must agree to the swap. If Shakira choses a boy and they don't agree to the coupling up, they will remain with their current partner and Shakira will be dumped from the villa. If Shakira is successful and the swap goes through, the partner of the boy she chooses will pack their bags instead. As Alima and Blu have already hit a rough patch, could Shakira use this as an opportunity to seek out Blu and send Alima packing? Viewers will need to wait until tomorrow night to find out what happens. Love Island airs on Tuesday June 10 on ITV at 9pm.

ITV Love Island 2025 couples in full as Maya Jama kicks off show with fresh twist
Love Island returned to screens tonight for the ITV show's twelfth season with twelve new contestants making their dramatic entrance into the iconic villa. Love Island has made it's highly anticipated return and twelve new contestants have made their dramatic entrance into the vilia tonight with Maya Jama reprising her role as host on the ITV dating show's twelfth series. However, a major twist caught the islanders off guard before they even got a chance to see each other face to face. This year's series kicked off with the girls arriving first, entering in pairs as they grinned with excitement over who and what awaits them under the Spanish sun. But instead of the traditional ceremony where singles step forward for their favourite potential partner, Maya unveiled a fresh twist which threw the first coupling into total chaos just minutes into the show. The girls were shown six giant red hearts, each of which featured a short dating profile from the boys. The information they were given only stated their name, age, height, job and a cheeky tagline. They then had to make their decision on who to match with based on nothing but their profiles. One of the profiles said: "I like to play hard and work harder!" Another boasted:"I've got good chat, good vibes, and great teeth." Following some intense conversations, Maya counted down and the girls made their move, sprinting towards the heart they felt the most drawn to. Moments later, the boys made their entrance one by one to discover who they'd been paired with through blind selection. Here are the Love Island 2025 couples so far.. Shakira & Ben Marketing exec Shakira from Burnley declared she was looking for a "tall, charming, witty guy with big arms and a big smile". She chose Ben Holbrough, a 27-year-old private hire taxi driver who joked his love life was "bankrupt" - but he may be cashing in now. He said he is on the market for a woman with "good chat, good vibes, nice teeth and good eye contact". Sophie & Harry Motivational speaker Sophie, 29, from Manchester chose to couple up with suave gold trader Harry Cooksley. Harry, 30, is the oldest contestant in the villa so far but with his model credentials and "Surrey Zidane" football finesse, Sophie seems more than content. Sophie, who branded herself the "CEO of empowerment", is searching for a man who's attentive and funny. Harry, the man of many talents, previously disclosed he actually moonlights as Declan Rice's body double for close-up shoots, but let's see if his personality matches up to his looks. Helena & Conor Cabin crew assistant Helena went for Northern banter and found herself paired up with professional rugby player Conor Philips. Conor revealed he likes "a dominant woman" with a sense of humour. Meanwhile, Helena values personality and says she can "pretty much laugh herself into bed", so these two may have already met their match. Meg & Dejon Payroll specialist Meg hails from Southampton, bringing business metaphors and bold chat to the villa as she said she aspires to turn her "bankrupt" love life into booming profits. Meg selected personal trainer and semi-pro footballer Dejon Noel-Williams, having been drawn to his sporty bio and smooth one-liner, and when he stepped out, she definitely did not look disappointed. Dejon, who has rubbed shoulders with the likes of David Beckham, thanks to his famous ex-footballer father, said he was looking for someone confident and real. Alima & Blu Alima Gagigo from Glasgow is the only Scot in this year's series with the 23-year-old graduate choosing to couple up with construction project manager Blu Chegini, who had a very cheeky backstory. Blu grew up with a mum who owned a sex shop in Spain, which he has confessed earned him some teasing from pals, who he jokes were unaware that "their parents were buying stuff from there". Blu's confidence and focus on "personality and family" had Alima seemingly intrigued from the get-go. Megan & Tommy Irish musical theatre star and energy broker Megan, who hails from Dublin, was beaming after she chose down-to-earth landscaper Tommy Bradley. The 24-year-old is known for his tight bond with his boxer brother, Jamie Bradley, and says he is looking for someone with ambition, kindness, and a big personality. Megan, who joked she loves a "bit pasty" lad like Timothée Chalamet, may have found her villa match in sweet-natured Tommy.
