Kedarnath-Gaurikund helicopter crash: CM Dhami chairs high-level meeting; 7 dead
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 15 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday held a virtual emergency meeting with senior officials following the crash of a helicopter near Kedarnath-Gaurikund in the Rudraprayag district.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister's residence, was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Disaster Management Secretary, UCADA CEO, Garhwal Commissioner, and other top officials.
Earlier in the day, at around 5:30 am, a helicopter en route from Kedarnath to Guptkashi crashed near Gaurikund. The helicopter, operated by Aryan Aviation, had seven people on board -- five adult passengers, one infant, and the pilot. All seven lost their lives in the crash, according to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The victims have been identified as Captain Rajbir Singh Chauhan, Vikram Rawat, Vinod Devi, Trishti Singh, Rajkumar Suresh Jaiswal, Shraddha Rajkumar Jaiswal, and an infant named Kashi.
As soon as information about the crash was received, SDRF Commander Arpan Yadav directed rescue teams to the site. The crash site was in a dense and difficult forested area, making access challenging. However, joint teams from the SDRF, NDRF, and local police carried out a swift and coordinated rescue operation. All seven bodies were recovered and are being brought down to the road head by the SDRF team.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) would conduct a detailed probe into the incident.
In light of the crash, the frequencies of helicopter operations to Char Dham will be reduced as a precautionary measure. Enhanced surveillance and operational reviews are also being carried out by DGCA, the aviation authority said in its statement.
Providing more details of the incident, the DGCA added, 'Today, Aryan Aviation Bell 407 helicopter VT-BKA operating a flight on the Shri Kedarnath ji - Aryan Helipad Guptkashi sector was involved in an accident. There were five passengers, one infant, and one crew member on board. The helicopter took off at 05:19 hours for Guptkashi and crashed near Gaurikund.' (ANI)

Earlier on Sunday, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that the DNA of 45 deceased have been matched with their relatives, and confirmed that the death toll in the Ahmedabad plane crash stands at 274. 'Till now, 45 DNA samples have matched. Around 274 people have lost their lives in the heart-wrenching incident,' state's Health Minister said. He also said that the funeral of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among the victims, will be held tomorrow with full state honours. Patel stated, 'CM Bhupendra Patel informed Vijay Rupani's family about the DNA samples matching as soon as the information was received... Tomorrow, at 11.30 am, the family will receive Vijay Rupani's mortal remains from the Civil Hospital. The mortal remains will be taken to Rajkot by air and reach there at 2. The funeral will be carried out at 5 pm and the last rites will be completed at 6 pm with state honours.' The state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) team are working to match more DNA samples. According to Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), HP Sanghavi, DNA examination is critically needed to identify the victims of the tragic crash, citing that the extreme heat from the blaze that erupted after the crash had made the traditional method of identification ineffective. Congress alleges irregularities in Haryana assistant professor recruitment
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Nearly two weeks after the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) cancelled the written examination for Assistant Professor (Hindi) posts amid allegations of a paper leak, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday alleged fresh irregularities in the recruitment process. He claimed these stem from the earlier 'hush-up' of the HPSC cash-for-job scam. Speaking at a press conference, Surjewala said, 'Investigative agencies found fraud in five recruitment processes under HPSC. The HPSC secretary even told the court that Rs 1.08 crore was recovered from the HPSC office, which was also reported in the media.' He alleged that despite the evidence, no concrete action was taken. 'Neither Alok Verma, the Chairman of HPSC, nor any other officials were questioned. The matter was hushed up. As a result, the recruitment of Assistant Professors has run into problems again. No Assistant Professors have been appointed in Haryana's college cadre since 2019, which means students have been studying without teachers for the last seven years,' he said. Surjewala further claimed that in 2024, over 2,000 posts for Assistant Professors were advertised. 'In August 2024, 2,424 posts for Assistant Professors across 26 subjects were advertised. Around 1.5 lakh candidates applied. But as preparations for the 2025 exams began in May and June, problems have emerged again,' he added. The HPSC cancelled the written exam for Assistant Professor (Hindi) held on June 1, 2025, following allegations of a paper leak. Earlier, in August 2024, the Election Commission had halted the announcement of recruitment results in Haryana until the completion of the Assembly elections. The commission acted on a complaint by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct in the recruitment of 5,600 constable posts in the Haryana Police, 76 TGT and PTI posts by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), and various posts by HPSC.
