Major hunt launched at sea for missing Brit woman who vanished after hiring boat
Spanish police and coastguards have launched a major search operation for a British woman who vanished after hiring a boat on the paradise island of Formentera.
Friends of the 29-year-old raised the alarm after she failed to return the 15-foot motor boat she had hired yesterday evening as scheduled.
A Spanish Coastguard helicopter is said to be assisting vessels taking part in the sea search. Police officers are also understood to be conducting a land search.
The company the missing Brit hired the boat from has been named locally as Helix Charter Formentera.
The vessel she left Formentera port La Salina in has been described as a cream-coloured Quicksilver 475 Axess with a Mercury outboard motor.

Similarly, Letby was accused of injecting air and insulin into the babies, as well as overfeeding them milk - but has always maintained her innocence. Many have cast doubt over Letby's convictions and others suggest she was targeted in a 'witch hunt'. In the chilling Argentine case, newborns tragically died initially under unexplained circumstances in a maternity hospital in Cordoba province, north-west of Buenos Aires. Baby killer Aguero tried to murder eight other babies between March and June of 2022, but they managed to receive rapid, live-saving medical intervention, local media reports. The 29-year-old will serve at least 35 years in prison before being eligible for parole, under Argentine law. Aguero's mum, Cristina Nobile, mainains her daughter's innocence and told reporters she would continue to press to have her conviction overturned. She added: "My daughter is innocent, and I will continue fighting." Prosecutors alleged during the trial that Aguero's motivation behind the wicked killings was to further her career. They say that she attacked the newborns in order to be the first to notice their symptoms and consequently impress her bosses. An alarming pattern was noticed, with babies having unexplained puncture marks in areas where injections weren't typically administered. And prosecutors argued that Aguero was the only person present during all the harrowing incidents and has "exclusive proximity" to the mums and their babies. Aguero denied the charges and told the court "they have no evidence". She also accused the media of portraying her as a "serial killer". Ten other defendants, including the former health minister in Cordoba as well as the former hospital director, were accused of attempting to cover up the incidents and destroy evidence. During her ten-month trial, which ended last August when she received a whole life sentence, it was revealed she injected her victims with air or insulin, overfed them and physically abused them with medical tools. An application to appeal against her sentence was rejected in February of this year. She was convicted across two trials at Manchester Crown Court of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others. The 35-year-old from Hereford is serving 15 whole-life orders. She lost two attempts to challenged her convictions at the Court of Appeal last year. Separately, Dutch nurse Lucia de Berk was found guilty of killing seven and attempting to kill three of her young patients in 2003 and 2004. During police raids on Brit Letby's home after her arrest, officers took a specific interest in her diary, as well as other notes found in her bedroom. One such scrawling, which went on to form a key part of the case against her, said: 'I am evil, I did this.' It was emblazoned on a bright Post-It, alongside another saying: 'I killed them on purpose because I'm not good enough.' Her diary, meanwhile, found in a bedside drawer, was thought to have contained a sadistic trail of breadcrumbs. These included coloured asterisks, as well as initials and words added to days that occasionally coincided with the dates of deaths or attacks she was later found guilty of.

Mother-of-four Helen Comin, 50, died after she was wrongly given a potent painkiller after a boob implant procedure at a private clinic in Italy A mum-of-four tragically died after she was wrongly given a dose of powerful painkillers after a boob implant. Helen Comin, 50, had undergone plastic surgery at a private clinic in Italy but suffered a huge heart attack after she was given a potent painkiller by medics. The mum underwent what was meant to be simple breast surgery- to switch her old implants with new ones. The situation turned tragic when she suffered from a cardiac arrest just an hour after the operation. She was rushed into intensive care at the San Giacomo Hospital, where she had undergone the op, in Castelfranco Veneto, around 47km north of Venice. Helen underwent her boob procedure on September 5, 2024, but sadly died five days later. It has since emerged that while she was still under general anaesthetic, Helen was given a dose of the potent painkiller Sufentanil. The morphine-like drugs crashed her respiratory system and triggered her fatal cardiac arrest, according to prosecutors. Experts say the drug should never be given until a patient's system is clear from anaesthetic. The owner of the clinic, Surgeon Antonio Di Vincenzo, and an anaesthetist, Fabio Toffoletto, have both been identified as manslaughter suspects by prosecutors in Treviso. They are accused of wrongly using the morphine-like painkiller and providing negligent post-op care. Mysteriously all medical evidence of the drug being administered to Helen had disappeared from the clinic's records. Investigators only discovered it had been used when they reportedly reviewed a recorded phone call from a nurse to the clinic. The investigation into her tragic death will continue. A young British woman lost her life after she went abroad to have boob surgery. Donna Butterfield, 30, died after she travelled to Majorca, Spain, for a budget cosmetic procedure. The hairdresser and aspiring model paid £6,000 for the operation at a clinic but she went into cardiac arrest during the op. The 30-year-old was rushed to hospital but tragically died. She was in intensive care for almost two weeks before she passed away. A friend described well-travelled Donna as "an amazing beautiful person taken too soon." A close family member added: "We'll never get over it, we just have to learn to live with it." A mum of two young boys, Megan Espinoza, died during a botched plastic surgery operation. The 36-year-old went to Divino Surgery Center in Bonita, California, for a breast augmentation procedure just before Christmas 2018. Prosecutors said the mum-of-two was given anaesthesia by nurse Heather Vass, who was not licensed to do so. During the operation, the patient, who was a nursery teacher, went into cardiac arrest at around 2.20pm on December 19, 2018. However, Dr Carlos Chacon, who was performing the surgery, delayed contacting the emergency services for three hours, instead calling in other doctors for advice while he left the room to see four other patients between 3.15pm and 5pm.
