"Migrant hotel has turned our pretty village into no-go zone - we want out"

Fed-up locals say their pretty village has turned into a 'no-go zone' after a migrant hotel opened up nearby. The Ibis hotel in the leafy Northamptonshire village of Crick has been operating as a make-shift asylum centre since last November. The idyllic village, which has a population of less than 2,000 people, features thatched houses, a marina and its own cricket club. But residents claim the area has gone downhill with late-night football matches and packs of men roaming the streets. Some locals are too scared to let their children out after dark after a woman was attacked in nearby Rugby, Warks., last week. Asylum seeker Ahmed Muhammad Almahi, 32, has been charged with sexual assault and is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court next month. News of the suspected assault has shocked local residents and led to an angry crowd of hundreds protesting outside the 111-room hotel on Friday evening. Community leaders are now demanding that Serco, which is responsible for housing asylum seekers, take a tougher stance on migrants staying at the hotel.

Teenager critical after motorbike and car collide

Police have made two arrests after a crash between a stolen motorcycle and a car left a teenager with life-threatening injuries. The crash happened in Baildon just before 13:00 BST on Wednesday, when the blue Honda bike collided with a silver Kia Sportage on the A6036 Otley Road close to the junction with Acorn Park. The motorcycle, which had three males on it, was travelling on the wrong side of the road at the time, West Yorkshire Police said. A pillion passenger was taken to hospital in critical condition. Two males have been arrested in connection with the crash, officers said, as they appealed for witnesses or anyone with footage to get in touch. Police increase patrols over drug concerns

Police patrols have been increased and warning signs put up in a street in Glenfield to deter drug dealing. Leicestershire Police said there had been "numerous reports" of vehicles involved in drug use parked in and around Frith Close. Reports also described rowdy behaviour lasting into the early hours, especially at weekends. Signs advising of a police operation, where vehicle registrations may be recorded, have been placed in the area, which includes homes overlooking a green space. Police said they hoped the measures would force criminals to move away and reduce anti-social behaviour. Residents have also been urged to continue reporting problems so police can monitor areas of concern. Follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
