Aldrin Sampear reveals new job after road rage incident

Aldrin Sampear has announced his decision to leave Newzroom Afrika in favour of joining the Department of Tourism. This follows his public apology over a viral video of him involved in a road rage incident with a female driver.
According to reports, the news broadcaster has a history of physical abuse of his ex-girlfriends.
In an X post, Aldrin Sampear officially announced his departure from Newzroom Afrika.
He posted: 'While this moment is about me, I want to send a warm hug to my cheerleaders who have been saddened by my exit from broadcasting. I promise to make you proud again'.
Aldrin revealed he would be taking up a post as a public servant.
He continued: 'I have joined the Department of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Patricia De Lille. This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I'm indebted.
'State policies like social grants and free primary healthcare helped pull me out of poverty, and journalism was the vehicle. My life is a testimony of God's love for us, and now I get to say THANK YOU in a BIG WAY and help pull more people up with me.'
Aldrin Sampear's exit from Newzroom Afrika comes barely three months after he apologised on air for a road rage incident with a female driver that took place in April.
He said, 'I want to take full responsibility for my actions. Although I did not assault the other driver, I think that I should have been more composed and found a way to de-escalate the situation. I felt short of the standards I hold myself to.
He emotionally continued: 'For that, I want to express my regret and sincere apologies to our viewers, my colleagues, and our management at Newzroom Afrika. I've worked really hard to make sense of this experience and the root cause of my response.
'I hope that through my actions from now on, to rebuild the trust and the confidence in me, and continue on this journey to do better'. Newzroom Afrika news presenter Aldrin Sampear has gone viral in a road rage video. Images via X: @aldrin sampear
In a video that went viral, an agitated Aldrin Sampear was seen confronting university student Laricia Augusto
The woman told The Citizen , 'He was screaming at me. I tried to defend myself, pointing out that what he did was deliberate road rage. I even told him there was more than enough space for him to have driven safely.'
According to reports, the woman has filed assault charges against Aldrin Sampear.

Kim Jayde shares how to experience Cannes on a budget

South African media personality and fashion enthusiast Kim Jayde has returned from the prestigious Cannes International Festival of Creativity. She has returned with some fresh insider's guide for South Africans keen to explore the allure of the French Riviera. Partnering with Air France, she shares her top tips to make your trip to Cannes unforgettable. Kim praises Air France as the perfect start to any French adventure. 'The moment you step onto an Air France flight, you experience French hospitality and culture,' she says. Every Business Class passenger is welcomed with a glass of champagne, and even economy passengers are treated to champagne served on board. 'It's a luxurious touch that sets the tone for the journey,' explains Kim. Onboard, she enjoyed classic French documentaries alongside fine red wine and steak, adding to the authentic experience. For accommodation, Kim recommends venturing just 15 minutes outside Cannes to the charming town of Antibes, according to Urban Lifestyle SA. 'It offers beautiful, more affordable options like two-bedroom Airbnbs,' she says. This option is perfect for travellers on a budget wanting to mingle with the C-suite elite visiting Cannes. Given that €1 roughly converts to about R 20, she notes that a train ticket from Antibes to Cannes costs approximately R 140. This is compared to Uber rides ranging between R 520 and R 980. 'Europe's trains are efficient, clean, and air-conditioned, making them a smart choice to navigate,' she advises. Food lovers should not miss the local boulangeries. 'Carry cash for the family-owned bakeries where fresh bread, cheese and cold meats are perfected by the French,' Kim says. She highlights Banana Blue, a quaint restaurant hidden from the main beach strip, famous for its fresh pizza and pasta. 'The French know how to enjoy life, no stress, no rush,' she adds. Beach days in Cannes are a must, with La Plage's Mediterranean waters warming to a pleasant 23°C in summer. Kim suggests visiting the beach around 4 pm when it's cooler, then enjoying sundowners and dinner at nearby cafés as the sun sets as late as 9 pm. When packing, Kim encourages lightweight, breathable fabrics. 'Leave your suits and jeans behind. Think cool linens, cotton shirts, flowy dresses and shorts,' she advises. On the language front, she stresses the importance of polite French greetings. 'Try to greet people in French, and they appreciate the effort,' she says, noting many locals will respond with a smile and helpfully switch to English or suggest Google Translate. Reflecting on her trip, Kim jokes, 'This was my first visit to France, and I fell in love with Cannes. From the food and energy to the safety and the lack of load-shedding or water cuts!' She has already marked her calendar for a 2026 return. Kim concludes, 'Cannes is a magical destination, definitely add it to your bucket list.' Sobzeen launches debut album years after ghostwriting hits

The 11-track album, 'iThemba Lam', was released on Friday, 8 August. DJ and producer Sobzeen, born Zakhele Mbuyisa, has finally released his debut album following years of ghostwriting and producing for other artists. The 11-track album, titled iThemba Lam, was released on Friday, 8 August. Speaking to The Citizen, Sobzeen said being a ghostwriter and producer was never part of his plans. 'I never wanted to be a ghostwriter. It just happened because of people's actions. I always wanted to do my own thing. I was making music for my name to be known, to become a major artist,' he said. Sobzeen has worked with numerous upcoming artists and renowned DJs, including DJ Stokie. He said going solo had been both challenging and rewarding. 'When you're used to being under someone's wing and suddenly everything falls on you, it's hard. You have to oversee every decision. Even when releasing a song, you worry about how people will receive it,' he said.
