Cross-Border Couple Buries Past, Pahalgam Attack Blocks Reunion

1 2 Nagpur: Separated for 15 years, Roshan in Nagpur and Poonam in Pakistan's Ghotki town in Sindh province finally decided to reunite, but the Pahalgam terror attack separated them again. After they reconciled differences, Poonam finally got a visa to visit India in April. After getting a call from the Indian embassy that her visa was cleared, Poonam rushed to Islamabad, 900km away. She reached on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack. At the embassy, her passport, which had the visa stamp on it, was stamped again in front of her. It read, 'cancelled without prejudice,' said Roshan as he showed a picture of the passport. Poonam has lived with her son, Akshay, in Ghotki since 2010. Her husband Roshan, also a Pakistani citizen, abandoned her a year after marriage and joined his relatives in Nagpur. Poonam was pregnant when he left. As years rolled by, Roshan continued to live on a long-term visa (LTV) in India. "We got married in 2008, but could not get along. The daily quarrels made me leave Pakistan and come down to Nagpur. My brother and parents were already living here, and I joined them." Lately, a spiritual leader from the community in Pakistan asked them to set aside their differences and start living together. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo They agreed. "Guruji asked me to join my husband in India. So, I applied for the visa for myself and my son. The cancellation only left her shocked," she told TOI, asking if she could come now. Roshan, who kept visiting her in Pakistan, said the discord continued and all efforts failed until this year when the seer convinced them to stay together. "Now I am eager to meet my wife and son," says Roshan. In Nagpur, there are 42 such cases of separation. Several girls married in India now cannot get a visa to enter India. "The govt should consider such cases as a special measure," says Rajesh Jhambia, secretary of Sindh-Hind Panchayat, an NGO that works with immigrants. In India, Roshan, like other LTV holders, must once again fill up details in a home ministry portal to avoid deportation. The deadline ends on July 10. BOX BOX Aneel Kumar is eager to leave India and return to Pakistan. Kumar, who came to Nagpur over a year ago hoping to start life afresh, says he has no choice but to leave. "My elder brother Mahesh Kumar was diagnosed with kidney failure a few months ago. He is on dialysis, and I need to be there with him," he says. Like him, Ravi Kumar also wants to leave India and join his elderly parents. With the borders shut, they will need special permission. Even the no-objection return to India (NORI) visas have been suspended after the Pahalgam attack. This would have allowed them to return in three months. Now, if the two leave, only a fresh visa will allow their return to India, said sources.

Asim Munir Staying At Private Accommodation With Heavy Security In US Amid Protests: Sources

Last Updated: PTI supporters have organised protests in Washington DC, New York, and London, using digital vans and billboards to call Munir a "mass murderer" and "fraud marshal". Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir is under heavy protection during his visit to Washington, and authorities have requested him to change his place of stay amid protests, sources have told CNN-News18. Munir is staying in private accommodation for security reasons, sources said. At a dinner held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Sunday evening, many guests cancelled their attendance at the last minute out of concern for their safety. Pakistan's Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who is on a visit to the United States, faced protests as a group of people shouted 'shame on you, mass murderer" and 'shame on you, dictator" upon his arrival at a hotel in Washington. Asim Munir has been accused of ordering violent crackdowns on Imran Khan's party, PTI, after 2023. Thousands of PTI workers were arrested, with many reportedly tortured or disappeared. Protesters have blamed him for 'suppressing democracy" and 'rigging" the 2024 elections. Protesters allege Munir removed Imran Khan from power by leveraging military pressure and used military courts to punish civilians and silence critics. Under his leadership, the media was heavily censored, and journalists, human rights activists, and opposition members were targeted, protesters say. Protesters claim he controlled both the government and judiciary from behind the scenes. PTI supporters have organised protests in Washington DC, New York, and London, using digital vans and billboards to call Munir a 'mass murderer" and 'fraud marshal". They assert that Munir uses Pakistani money to sponsor billboards featuring his own image in Times Square. They question whether any other army general in the 21st century has exhibited 'such extreme low self-esteem". Protesters argue that the US should engage with the Pakistani democratic government as they do with the Indian government, and not with Munir. Imran Khan remains isolated in jail, which is a cause for concern among his supporters. People have travelled from different parts of America to protest against Munir and show solidarity. They argue that the Pakistan army has never won any war but has won every election. Protesters claim that families in Pakistan and Pakistanis abroad are being targeted by ISI and Asim Munir because they support the rule of law, an independent judiciary, and the release of Imran Khan, who they believe is illegally arrested. Asim Munir is meeting high-ranking officials and other security officials in the USA. Protesters claim they have evidence that he has 'massacred" a large number of Pakistanis and later attacked Afghanistan in the same month, killing innocent children and women. They accuse him of creating unrest within Pakistan for his own benefit.

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Challenges India In 'Victory Speech' From Washington Hotel

Last Updated: Munir said that his country stands alongside Iran and that the conflict with Israel would be resolved within days CNN-News18 has accessed the speech delivered by Pakistan's army chief Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington on Tuesday in which he has challenged India. Munir said that his country stands alongside Iran and that the conflict with Israel would be resolved within days. The field marshal's fervent speech, accompanied by Pakistani politician Abdul Razak Raja's slogans, transformed the event into a sham celebration of 'victory over India". Munir, embodying the roles of soldier, politician, and common Pakistani all at once, gave a passionate and prolonged address to American Pakistanis. His relative and defence minister Mohsin Naqvi stood by his side as India was issued repeated challenges by Munir. The field marshal called for a return to the Pakistan of 1979, a time when mosques and cinemas coexisted, and 'India's entire system of life was under Pakistani control". He criticised weak diplomacy, stating that India 'benefited from deceit" while Pakistan missed opportunities to engage with the world. He emphasised the unity of the political and military leadership, describing them as one body and soul. He noted growing impatience among Pakistani soldiers to confront India. While acknowledging significant support from China, he stressed that Pakistan has its own resources and highlighted efforts to strengthen the economy. First Published:
