James Comey blasts US government: Ex-FBI director lashes out in daughter's defence after DOJ dismissal; warns of 'hard weeks in Trump era'
Former FBI Director James Comey has sharply criticized the Trump and his administration after the department of justice abruptly fired his daughter, Maurene Comey, a longtime federal prosecutor known for her work on high-profile cases involving
Jeffrey Epstein
and Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
'The reservoir is in grave danger,' Comey said in a statement shared by Fox News being circulated on social media, after his daughter's dismissal. 'Right now, Trump and the hacks who lead the Department of Justice are hammering at the dam day after day, trying to turn it into just another gold leaf covered Trump subsidiary.'
Calling on career DOJ employees to hold the line, he added, 'Our best hope is that good people will stay.
You may get fired for acting that way, but there's honor in that and nothing but disgrace for those who don't stand up. There are going to be hard weeks in the Trump era and this was one for my family. But there are plenty of good people still in the department committed to doing things the right way, committed to the rule of law.
For them, because of them, keep the faith.'
The Justice Department fired Maurene Comey last week via a memo that gave no explanation.

'Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office,' she wrote in an internal email obtained by the New York Post. 'I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination.'
Her dismissal comes as the Justice Department faces scrutiny over its decision to close parts of the Epstein investigation. Comey had led several significant prosecutions, including the conviction of
Ghislaine Maxwell
on sex trafficking charges and, more recently, a high-profile case involving music mogul Diddy Combs.
In the past year, Comey had become a target of far-right influencers close to
Donald Trump
. In May, conservative activist Laura Loomer publicly called for Attorney General Pam Bondi to fire Comey, accusing her of political bias.

If I weren't around, India would be fighting Pakistan, claims Trump
US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed, yet again, that if he had not intervened in time with a threat of stopping all trade negotiations, India and Pakistan would have been at war. Addressing the media in Scotland, along with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of their official talks, Trump took credit for stepping in to prevent six major wars around the world, including between India and Pakistan. He was responding to a question about pushing Israel towards ending the conflict in Gaza just hours after ceasefire talks with Hamas collapsed. We have many ceasefires going on If I weren't around, you would have six major wars going on India would be fighting with Pakistan, Trump said while addressing the media from his Turnberry golf resort in South Ayrshire, Scotland. We have many hotspots that were at war. I think a very big one was India and Pakistan because you are talking about two nuclear nations. That was a very big one, said Trump, who is on a private visit to Scotland since Friday. Trump said, I know the leaders of Pakistan and India. I know (them) very well. And they're in the midst of a trade deal, and yet they're talking about nuclear weapons this is crazy. So, I said I'm not doing a trade deal with you guys. And they want the trade deal, they need it. "[I said] I'm not doing a trade deal with you if you're going to have war, and that's a war that spreads to other countries, you'll get nuclear dust. We'll all get nuclear dust. When they start using nuclear weapons, that stuff blows all over the place and really bad things happen. So maybe we're being a little selfish when we want to save wars too. But we stopped a lot of wars and it's a great honour to have done it. India has repeatedly refuted claims of any mediation during Operation Sindoor, its military action in response to a Pakistan-backed deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The precision strikes lasted between May 7 and 10, with New Delhi maintaining that they came to an end following direct talks between the militaries of both countries without any US mediation.

‘Disappointed' With Putin': Trump shortens ceasefire deadline, cites disappointment over stalled Ukraine talks
President Trump on Monday said he was reducing the 50 day deadline he gave Russia over its war in Ukraine, saying he was disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin. read more US President Donald Trump on Monday said he would shorten the 50-day ultimatum he had earlier set for Russian President Vladimir Putin to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine, expressing frustration over Moscow's lack of progress in ending the war. 'I'm very disappointed in President Putin. Extremely disappointed. So, I'll be cutting down the 50-day window I gave him, bringing it to a smaller number,' Trump said during a media interaction while hosting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his Turnberry golf resort in western Scotland. Trump's remarks came just a day after Russian and Ukrainian officials held a third round of face-to-face negotiations in Istanbul since talks resumed in May. Hopes remained low heading into the session, and the meeting, lasting only 40 minutes—ended with limited progress. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The delegations, led by Ukraine's former defence minister Rustem Umerov and senior Russian aide Vladimir Medinsky, agreed on another prisoner exchange and formed three virtual working groups to handle political, military, and humanitarian matters. Earlier, Trump had issued a stark warning to Moscow: reach a ceasefire with Kyiv within 50 days or face 100% tariffs on Russian imports. He also greenlit the transfer of U.S.-made Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine to bolster its defences against Russian airstrikes. Following Trump's ultimatum, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia remained open to dialogue, but reiterated Moscow's core demands. The Kremlin insists that any peace arrangement must include Ukraine's withdrawal from four regions illegally annexed by Russia in 2022, territories that Moscow has not fully seized. Trump To End Deportation Protection for Cameroonians, Afghans Firstpost Africa
Trump To End Deportation Protection for Cameroonians, Afghans | Firstpost Africa | N18G Trump To End Deportation Protection for Cameroonians, Afghans | Firstpost Africa | N18G The Trump administration has won a federal appeals court ruling allowing it to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 5,000 Cameroonians, despite ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises in the country. The government argues conditions have improved and TPS is meant to be temporary, while advocacy group CASA contends Cameroon remains unsafe and accuses the administration of racial bias and procedural violations. The ruling permits deportations to proceed, potentially affecting thousands with U.S.-born children or deep community ties. This decision follows broader efforts to wind down TPS for multiple nationalities as part of Trump's intensified crackdown on undocumented migration. See More
