MEAL PLAN: Knowing what you need to buy before hitting the shops is the easiest way to keep costs in check — and to make sure you're not tempted by sales or marketing tactics.
For inspiration, Sainsbury's online recipe section has 'feed the family' for a fiver, while the Tesco Real Food site has 'budget dinner' recipes.
COMPARE: The cheapest supermarket for your shopping typically depends on exactly what you are buying.
You can compare individual items at comparison site trolley.co.uk, as well as creating an entire list to find out which shop is cheapest and closest to you.
LOYALTY PAYS: With reduced prices for loyalty members at most major supermarkets, you will be hit in the wallet if you do not sign up for schemes.
Remember to log on to the app before you shop, as some offers need to be activated or loaded to your account before you can benefit.
AVOID CONVENIENCE STORES: Smaller local stores can cost you in more ways that one.
First, the food items can be more expensive than in larger shops and the range of own-brand or affordable versions of food are more limited than in the bigger branches. And thirdly, sometimes you won't be able to access some of the membership perks that come from shopping at a larger store.
For example, your Nectar prices are only available in the main Sainsbury's supermarkets and not the smaller convenience stores.
ONLINE SAVERS: If you shop online, try to do bigger buys less frequently, to cut down the cost of delivery fees.
Five expert tips to save money on your supermarket shop
Where you have flexibility, opt for a saver slot — typically within a four-hour time period — to save further on fees.

Boden's 'perfect' summer dress shoppers say 'looks flattering on everyone'
The Boden Anna Double Cloth Midi Dress has been praised for having the 'perfect fit' with a flattering fit-and-flare shape - and it's on sale When it comes to looking effortlessly chic during the warmer months, nothing beats a 'throw-on-and-go' frock that instantly looks elegant. These versatile pieces are wonderfully versatile, and fashion lovers have discovered the perfect option at Boden. Customers are going wild for the Anna Double Cloth Midi Dress, and it's easy to understand the hype. Praised as offering the 'perfect fit', this 100% cotton number features a gorgeous fit-and-flare silhouette complete with handy pockets. The Anna Double Cloth Midi Dress in white or green normally retails for £98, but savvy shoppers can snap it up for £68.60. The jam red version has been reduced to £68.80, whilst the vibrant blue style is marked down even further to £58.80. This versatile piece comes in sizes four to 22 across petite, regular and long lengths, with most sizes still available online. The Anna Double Cloth Midi Dress has won over buyers, earning an impressive 4.5 out of five stars from more than 50 customer reviews, reports the Manchester Evening News. One delighted shopper said: "Love this dress - have it in three colours. Material is so nice and looks very flattering on. Bonus that it has pockets too." Another purchaser agreed, saying: "So good I have it in three colours." The gentle fabric and flowing tiered skirt help keep you cool, whilst the contrasting waistband creates a gorgeous silhouette and defines the waist beautifully. The frock features a lined bodice for a smoother, more comfortable wear. Other reviewers have reported receiving compliments from strangers while wearing the dress. One said: "Love this dress. Great fit and colour (blue). "I've even had a stranger in the street stop to compliment me. Sits beautifully by skimming curves but shaping at the waistline without pinching. Love the sleeve length too. Just the right coverage for my top of arms." But another found it 'ill-fitting', explaining: "It's too big and low at the bust and far too long." Another shopper agreed and returned the dress. They said: "Unfortunately around the bust area there was too much material and it sat away from my body gaping and exposing my bra." Shoppers hunting for summery white dresses are in for a treat with New Look's White Crinkled Frilly Trim Midi Dress at £14 (was £24.99). This 100 per cent cotton number is airy with a loose fit and Bohemian ruffles. Next stocks a pricier 100% linen midi dress at £65, featuring stylish shirred elasticated details. For something slightly more glamorous, River Island delivers with a bow-detailed White Sleeveless Bow Detail Corset Dress for £46 in black or pink. Fashion lovers have gushed about the Boden Anna Double Cloth Midi Dress with one noting: "True to size - beautiful colour. Great item that can be dressed up or down." Whilst another review read: "Love it. Very flattering, perfect fit and length. It's quite heavy with the double cloth but excellent quality. I'm sure I will wear it a lot."

Shoppers are going wild for the ‘only bag you need this summer' – it's £6 and you'll be surprised by where it's from
SHOPPERS are going wild and are racing to get their hands on the new bag of the summer. So if you've been using the same beach bag for the last decade and fancy treating yourself, then you've come to the right place. 5 5 5 And don't worry if your wallet is feeling the pinch, as this affordable accessory is only £6 - yes, you heard that correctly. Not only is it purse-friendly and super stylish, but it appears to be inspired by a much more expensive but strikingly similar bag from Crocs. So if the thought of splashing £74.99 on the Crocs Classic Large Tote sends shivers down your spine, then you'll need to check this out. While many of us will often buy our bags from New Look, Primark, River Island or H&M, you're sure to be shocked when you find out where this new accessory is from. Posting on social media, Home Bargains gave shoppers a close-up look at the buy, which has only just landed in stores. According to the chain, this durable and spacious accessory is 'the bag that EVERYONE will ask you about.' The bargain buy, which is £68.99 less than the iconic buy from Crocs, is available in three colours - pink, white and baby blue. It's sure to turn heads when you next go on holiday, but is equally as great for carrying all your stuff when running errands. Alongside the post, Home Bargains beamed: 'New in and only £6.' The much-loved chain then added: 'The only bag you'll need this summer!' The secret Home Bargains aisle shoppers always forget to check - with loads of delicious treats priced from just 59p But you'll need to move quickly if you want to get your hands on this bag, as the short clip was posted on the Home Bargains official Instagram page just 12 hours ago, but it has clearly impressed many as it has quickly racked up 211,000 views and 1,070 likes. Fashion fans were stunned by the 'gorgeous' bag and many claimed they 'needed' it. One person said: 'Ooooh I sense a new viral must have.' Another added: 'That price is fantastic. Would make an ideal beach bag.' Alongside a love heart eye emoji, a third commented: 'Omg!!! Need.' At the same time, one fashionista gushed: 'I want one so bad!!!!' Hottest fashion trends of 2025 Fabulous' Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend shares the biggest trends from the high street. The East/West Bag Baguette bags have had a good run, after returning from the 1990s' shoulders of Sarah Jessica Parker to modern-day fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber. In 2025, the East/West bag is a similar but elongated shape and has long, thin straps that are easy to throw over your shoulder. They've been on runway models' arms at nearly ever designer show - think Burberry, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta - and are hitting the high street now, too. Powder pink Bright fuchsia pink had its day after the release of Barbie in 2023 and now the more polished and expensive-looking pale shade is taking over for 2025. Pantone may say that it's the year of Mocha Mousse, but the catwalks say otherwise! From Prada to Erdem, the subtle look was all over the spring/summer catwalks, worn head-to-toe or on its own. If the sugary shade is too girly for you, then look to sharp suiting for a androgynous take on the colour. The shell jacket The '80s classic is back, but with a sleek and minimal new twist for 2025. We all know we're likely to see rain for most of spring, so your practical coat of choice should be a cagoule jacket. Depop revealed one of its big trend predictions for this year is retro sportswear, with surges already seen in '80s windbreakers'. Seen everywhere from the stylish streets of Copenhagen to the Miu Miu catwalk, now mums who have an emergency raincoat crumpled underneath their pushchair are very much in fashion! The turn-up jeans While the shape of jeans remains the same for this year and barrel-legs will still be everywhere, the way we're styling them is different. This season, transform your wide-leg, baggy denims into turn-ups. For this look, size doesn't matter, so while deep turn-ups are a hit from jean trend-leaders Citizens of Humanity, a slight fold is still just as good - but only as it's just one single fold. Peep-toe shoe Get your pedicures booked in sharpish, as this season your toes are the main event. After a long hiatus, the peep-toe has been welcomed back into the fashion fold, with brands like Hermes, Miu Miu and Tory Burch showing plain and embellished footwear in this style. From mules to pumps and clogs (yes, clogs will be around too!), there are lots of different styles that are set to sweep the high street. Sheer blouses See-through looks have always lived on the catwalk, but have rarely filtered into everyday life - until now. Designers Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford loved sheer looks on their S/S '25 catwalks and M&S even had sellout success with its black sheer pencil skirt last season. Expect to see more sheer looks lining supermarket aisles and high street shops in the form of skirts, tops and frocks. As well as this, one woman beamed: 'I need it! Gorgeous.' Meanwhile, someone else wrote: 'How cool. I wonder if you could add Croc charms to this.' To this, one Home Bargains shopper responded and claimed: 'It does fit them, it's the dupe of the Crocs one.' New Look's 'beautiful' £19 top looks 'just like' £80 luxury version
The retailer is selling a style similar to one offered by a luxury brand but it is a fraction of the price New Look is stocking a "beautiful" top that resembles a luxury style. The high street retailer is known for its affordable clothing and might have a new crowd pleaser on its hands. For shoppers looking for an asymmetrical style, New Look offers its Off Shoulder Scuba Top for £18.99. Four colors are available: black, off-white, light green, and light yellow. The top resembles a trending style that shoppers can expect to see lots of this summer, with everyone from Next to River Island stocking off-the-shoulder tops this season. What's more, New Look's top arguably looks similar to Reformation's Cello asymmetric ruched jersey top, which is £80 from Selfridges. Both tops offer an off-the-shoulder style with gathered detailing. However, they vary in length, as the New Look style has an asymmetrical hem. There are also differences in fabric. Reformation opted for 88% lyocell, 12% Spandex, while New Look opted for 96% Polyester and 4% Elastane. The product description for New Look's top states: "This off shoulder scuba top makes a great choice for dressing up or down. In black, it features an asymmetric design and a gathered side." Elsewhere, Selfridges says the Reformation top is "fitted, asymmetric neckline, ruching at front" with "midweight, slight stretch." Despite this, New Look's style could be just the ticket for fans of the style keen for a more affordable top. For shoppers looking for an alternative, options include Next's Drape Asymmetric One Shoulder Top, on sale for £11.50 from £28, or River Island's £39 Drape Scuba Top. The product description for the Drape Asymmetric One Shoulder Top states: "This stylish top has an asymmetric one-shoulder design with drape detailing, crafted from a soft and breathable jersey fabric, finished with a trimmed sleeve hem." Other off-the-shoulder styles include Mint Velvet's Sleeveless Knit Top, on sale for £39 from £79, and Nobody's Child's Off Shoulder Ruched Top, on sale for £23 from £45. The product description for the Shoulder Ruched Top, states: "Day-to-night dressing done right. Coming in chocolate brown, this bardot top is fitted in all the right places. Just add your favourite jeans." Nonetheless, shoppers might prefer New Look's Off Shoulder Scuba Top. The style has received high praise from an impressed reviewer, but not all feedback has been positive. Reviewing the style on New Look's website, one happy shopper wrote: "Beautiful yellow top very nice on." Less impressed, a reviewer wrote: "Not a great cut, looks funny." Someone else with mixed feedback shared: "The quality was good but it just didn't flatter my body type. it felt uncomfortable across my stomach but that's just me." To date, there are no more reviews. However, shoppers keen to read reviews before purchasing could check what's being said by New Look customers on Trustpilot for more customer feedback about sizing, quality, and delivery.
