Light plane crashes near Boston leaving one person dead and second fighting for their life as feds launch probe
The Mooney M20 aircraft crashed on a street close to Beverly Regional Airport in Massachusetts at around 8.45am on Thursday.

Two men were inside the aircraft, according to Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur and Beverly Fire Chief Peter O'Connor.
One man was pronounced dead on the scene while the other was airlifted to a hospital.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said: "The preliminary information we have is the plane crashed under unknown circumstances."
The plane had a fixed wing and four seats, according to the NTSB.
The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.

A university professor warned Bryan Kohberger would sexually abuse students just months before he murdered four undergraduates, according to a police report. Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminal justice student, was sentenced to life in prison without parole last month after stabbing and killing a group of University of Idaho students in November 2022 while they slept. A Washington State University (WSU) faculty member who met the doctoral student at a criminal justice programme said she warned colleagues he would likely stalk or sexually abuse his students if he became a professor. 'He is smart enough that in four years we will have to give him a PhD,' the woman told colleagues, urging them to remove him from the course, according to a report by Idaho police. 'Mark my word, I work with predators... when he is a professor, we will hear [he] is harassing, stalking, and sexually abusing ... his students at wherever university.' She told police that she was occasionally forced to intervene when Kohberger would block the door of an office where several female graduate students worked. 'I really need to get out of here,' she recalled hearing one woman say. The WSU faculty member said she also believed Kohberger was stalking people, noting that an unknown individual had broken into a female student's apartment to steal perfume and underwear. Others in the department thought he could become a rapist and speculated that he was an 'incel', she told the officer. Kohberger was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences last month after he admitted murdering Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen in a rental home near the University of Idaho campus. All four victims were likely to have initially been asleep when they were attacked, according to a post-mortem. They were each stabbed several times, and some had defensive wounds where they tried to fight off Kohberger. A fellow student also claimed that three weeks after the killings and before Kohberger was arrested, he praised the murderer and said they 'must have been pretty good'. He also reportedly speculated that the deaths might have been a 'one and done type thing'. She told police that Kohberger was disparaging towards women, enjoyed conflict, and liked to talk about his field of study: sexual burglary. One instructor who worked with Kohberger said she began receiving complaints about him from students and staff on the same programme in August 2022. In total, the university received nine complaints from faculty members and others about his 'rude and belittling behaviour toward women', according to a report from Idaho police. One of his fellow students, who called a police tip line and reported seeing Kohberger with bloody knuckles shortly before the murders, said he also started looking dishevelled after the killings and stopped bringing his phone to classes.

Federal prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation into allegations that Washington DC police systematically manipulated crime statistics to make the city appear safer than it actually is. The probe, anonymous sources tell the Washington Post, NBC News and Fox News, being conducted by the US attorney's office for the District of Columbia under Jeanine Pirro, is the latest escalation between the Trump administration and DC officials over federal control of local policing. DC's mayor, Muriel Bowser, has repeatedly cited police data showing violent crime down by 27% over the last year to argue against Trump's federal takeover of local police. The department has separately reported that violent crime fell by 35% in 2024. The chief of DC's police union, Gregg Pemberton – who supports federal control – calls both sets of statistics 'preposterous', and said officers know the reality on the streets. 'We go call to call to call – robbery to carjacking to stabbing to shooting,' Pemberton told NBC News Washington last week. 'Crime is ubiquitous in every quadrant of the city.'

Internet star, 33, shot dead in front of her child after driving into road rage argument between other drivers
An Arizona influencer was shot and killed after driving into the crossfire of a road rage incident. Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, 27, was struck by a stray bullet on Friday after two other drivers started fighting at a red light. Glendale police said Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, was waiting in the center lane while the driver he argued with was stopped in the right lane. Hermosillo's vehicle came to a stop in the left lane and was not involved in the fight. Her boyfriend was driving the car, while she sat in the passenger seat, and her mother and four-year-old son were in the back. As the other vehicles continued to fight, Dousten allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at his own driver's side window and fired a single shot at random. The bullet went through the passenger window of the car on his left and struck Hermosillo in the head. Hermosillo's boyfriend rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. 'My question still is, why would you just randomly shoot the other way? He obviously didn't know the other car was there,' Glendale Police Sgt Brian Hoskins told AZ Family. 'That's the thing, as gun owners, you have to know where you're shooting, what you're pointing at. You know, those are the responsibilities of being a responsible gun owner. You can't just fire rounds randomly throughout. Specifically, a high, highly populated city.' Police used surveillance footage to identify Dousten as the driver and tracked him down. 'Tracking from you know one location to another, switching cameras and continuing to follow the individual,' Hoskins said. Dousten was arrested, and police executed a search warrant at a home he had visited after the shooting and recovered two handguns. He has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons and endangerment, and is being held on $1 million bond. Hermosillo's family has started a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses for the influencer. She amassed over 300,000 followers across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for her stay-at-home mom and cooking content. 'Yarely was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her,' her family said. 'She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss. 'Yarely's greatest joy in life was being a mother, and she poured her heart into caring for her little boy. 'She was an innocent victim caught in the middle of a road rage incident between others, leaving her family and friends devastated.'
