Visit Malaysia's 10 National Memorials with Free Entry All Year
The initiative, aimed at making Malaysia's political and cultural legacy more accessible, includes memorials commemorating key figures such as Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra and Tun Abdul Razak in Kuala Lumpur, Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba in Melaka, and iconic sites like the P. Ramlee Birth House in Penang and Rumah Merdeka in Kedah.
In a statement today, the ministry said the programme aligns with the theme for International Archives Week 2025, 'Arkib Boleh Diakses, Arkib Untuk Semua' (Accessible Archives, Archives for All), and reflects the government's broader MADANI agenda to democratise historical awareness.
'The initiative aims to bring history closer to the people, particularly the younger generation, and ensure national records and stories are accessible to all levels of society,' it said.
The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community archiving efforts, including oral histories from the Orang Asli and indigenous communities in Sabah and Sarawak.
Such efforts, it said, are essential for building a more inclusive and representative national narrative.
'Let us embrace the nation's historical heritage, nurture a love for the homeland and strengthen unity through reflection on our shared past,' the statement read.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang described the National Archives of Malaysia (ANM) as a 'guardian of national memory', noting its crucial role in preserving records while unifying the stories of Malaysia's diverse communities.
'From the fight for independence to the ongoing journey of national integration, the archives are essential. Without them, history fades, identity blurs and unity weakens,' he said.
The ANM is a Category A Institutional Member of the International Council on Archives (ICA), a status that provides it with access to global archival collaboration and discourse.

While officiating the Langat 2 water treatment plant here, the Prime Minister said the state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in Malaysia's infrastructure development, enhancing its attractiveness for investors in sectors like data centres, semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). "The Langat 2 project underscores our capability to manage complex, high-tech initiatives with our own expertise. "This is a proud moment for Malaysians, demonstrating our ability to manage and execute such massive projects efficiently using local talents," he said in his speech. Developed by Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), the Langat 2 facility, boasting a capacity of 1,130 million litres per day (MLD), is not only essential for meeting the high demand for treated water in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, but also plays a strategic role in attracting foreign investors. "Water and energy infrastructure are critical factors for investors. "Our ability to provide these resources reliably and affordably is a major draw for investment in sectors like data centres, AI and semiconductors," he said. Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, ministry secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli, PAAB Chairman Datuk Seri Jaseni Maidinsa and Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim. Addressing the ongoing challenges in Malaysia's water industry, Anwar highlighted the need to replace old water pipes, particularly to reduce water wastage and non-revenue water (NRW). "We still face challenges with water wastage and outdated infrastructure, but projects like Langat 2 show we are on the right path," he said. Built in the Hulu Langat district, the Langat 2 facility involves transferring raw water from the Kelau Dam in Pahang through a sophisticated 44.6km tunnel across the Titiwangsa range, showcasing advanced engineering and environmental sustainability. Costing RM4.22bil, the project now benefits over 790,000 consumers accounts across Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The supply coverage includes key urban and suburban areas within the northern corridor (Ampang, KL north - Wangsa Maju to Maluri, Keramat and Gombak) and the western corridor (KL city centre, KL south, Petaling, Sungai Besi, Kinrara and Puchong). "This is not just a plant; it is a symbol of our commitment to sustainable development and efficient resource management. "By connecting two major corridors, the northern and western, Langat 2 ensures a stable and sufficient water supply, crucial for the continued economic growth and industrial development of the area," Anwar added. Fadillah, in his speech, said his ministry is set to focus on reducing non-revenue water (NRW) as slated in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). "Through the Critical Pipe Replacement Programme, we are implementing a comprehensive solution to tackle non-revenue water across Malaysia. "Our goal is to significantly reduce water wastage and improve efficiency." He said incentives will be offered to water operators who successfully meet NRW targets in identified states. "The ministry's initiatives aim to lower the NRW rate to 28.8% by 2030," he said. In his speech, Jaseni said the Langat 2 project has come a long way following years of planning and implementation, including land acquisition, settling residents complaints resistance and compensation, which took time. "The success of Langat 2 is a joint effort and assistance from various stakeholders, such as the federal government, Selangor state government, Pahang state government, National Water Services Commission (Span), Air Selangor and PAAB. "This reflects a strong inter-governmental commitment in delivery," he said. Jaseni noted that the plant's advanced technologies include the Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) System for dual-filtering and real-time monitoring via the supervisory control and data acquisition (Scada) system. "These innovations underscore Malaysia's push towards integrating modern technology in public utilities." Additionally, he said the environmentally friendly features of Langat 2, such as the static mixer and zero discharge system, highlight the project's commitment to sustainability. "The use of a 1.92-kilometre conveyor pipe system for waste disposal reduces both road safety risks and carbon emissions." He also added that PAAB has received seven recognitions from the Malaysia Book of Records for various engineering feats achieved during its construction for Langat 2.

Disabled STPM top scorer has received multiple full scholarship offers, says Dr Wee
PETALING JAYA: The story of STPM top scorer Lim Chin Hong, who overcame personal challenges to achieve a perfect CGPA of 4.0, has sparked overwhelming support from universities and a philanthropist, offering him full scholarships. MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong ( pic ) said Lim's perseverance had inspired many, with several institutions quickly stepping forward to open doors for his future. "After I highlighted his journey, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) were the very first to offer him a place in his preferred course with full scholarship," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 20). Dr Wee said Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) and UCSI University later made similar offers, while another organisation and a Singaporean philanthropist pledged to cover his education expenses in full. He added that UCSI University also extended a full scholarship to another high-achieving student, Aniq, who is autistic and scored a CGPA of 3.83. Some had asked why I did not secure him a place in UTAR and TAR UMT, the two institutions founded by MCA. The fact is, they were among the first to make the offer," he said. He also expressed his appreciation to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who assured that Lim would be given a place in a course of his choice at a public university. "I will personally convey every offer to his family and let him decide which path he wishes to take. What matters most is that he now has the opportunity and support to pursue his dream, all thanks to the compassion and kindness of so many Malaysians," Dr Wee said. ALSO READ: 'He will be given a place' Zambry had assured in Parliament that Lim, a high-achiever who lost his right leg due to a medical condition called hemangiona, would be considered for engineering programmes offered in public universities. Lim, a student from SMK Yong Peng who achieved a 4.0 CGPA in STPM 2024, was earlier denied the choice for engineering programmes on account of his disability. Zambry said he acknowledged while the rejection was based on reasons such as the institution lacking the necessary facilities, he admitted that such grounds were unacceptable and pledged policy changes to make public universities more inclusive. "We must change university policies to ensure greater inclusivity for OKU students. "Therefore, I wish to inform Yang Berhormat that this student, who scored full As, will be given a place," he added. Dr Wee highlighted Lim's plight after the science stream student discovered that all engineering courses were removed from his public university application due to his disability. Dr Wee questioned the broader admissions policy, citing the case of Aniq who scored a CGPA of 3.8, but was also unable to select preferred programmes. He stressed that government policies must not discriminate against persons with disabilities and urged the Higher Education Ministry to review policies to ensure equal opportunities for them. Zambry also said last week that Aniq's case would be resolved soon.

Khaled said PLKN is aimed at nurturing young Malaysians who would both support and 'connect' with the armed forces, while encouraging the public at large to unite in defending the country. Advertisement He said the programme also fostered discipline and paved the way for greater participation in volunteer units like the Territorial Army as well as the naval and air force reserves. 'National defence is not the exclusive responsibility of the military. It requires the support and understanding of all citizens,' he told the Dewan Rakyat when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan for his ministry. Khaled pointed out that nearly 150 PLKN 3.0 trainees have since signed up for the Territorial Army, while 40 have enlisted for training with the army. On Aug 6, Saifuddin Abdullah (PN-Indera Mahkota) urged the government to drop the national service programme, saying the funds should go to education initiatives instead. The former minister previously argued that the programme lacked clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
