Formula One veteran Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson were seen laughing together after the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg, a sign that the two drivers had settled their differences following a heated clash during last year's United States Grand Prix.
The 2024 sprint race in Austin saw Alonso and Lawson battle for 16th place when the latter defended his position aggressively. The clash then spilled onto the pit lane after the race. Lawson revealed later that Alonso threatened to "screw" him during qualifying. Speaking after the race, the Kiwi driver said:
"I understand he had a pretty horrible race so I can understand why he's upset.

"It is what it is, it's part of it – it doesn't bother me."
He added:
"He said he would screw me, and I guess he kept his word. I don't know. He was really upset. I'm not sure why - we were racing for P16, and I don't know why he was so upset.
"It is what it is. Hopefully, he can get over it. And we'll move forward."
Alonso said he avoided a big crash with Lawson. He explained:
"On the straight, I think we nearly crashed, like I did with Lance two years ago, at 300 km/h or something, and then, the way he squeezed, out of the corners, to the track limits itself, in lap one of [19]."
He added:
"Everyone on track is behaving as he wants, and for me, today was unnecessary.
"Everyone can have different opinions. I'm OK with that. You know, it's 24 races, so you meet somewhere in the journey."
Tensions escalated during the Miami sprint race this year when Lawson made contact with Alonso's AMR25, causing him to spin and crash into the wall.
Now though, the pair of drivers were seen chatting happily after the race at the Red Bull Ring, where Lawson secured an impressive P6 finish, while Alonso finished seventh. According to MARCA, Alonso approached Lawson to congratulate him on his points finish. Lawson laughed when the Spaniard opened up on how he was able to remain close to him in the DRS zones. Alonso said:
"From Turn 4 to 9, I treated it as if it were a time trial, and then at Turn 9, I caught the first detection zone (DRS detection zone), and from there, I used DRS until Turn 1, I used detection again and got DRS until Turn 3. And the same at Turn 4. Then until the new one, like a time trial, and so on for 60 laps. Like a cycling time trial, but without any relays."

Fan-Favorite Star Reportedly Receives New WWE Contract Offer
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With his WWE contract reportedly set to expire in a matter of days, a major update has emerged on the status of Karrion Kross. According to a new report, the former NXT Champion has now been offered a new contract by the company. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified the evolving situation. He suggested that, despite the uncertainty, he does not expect Kross and his wife, Scarlett, to be leaving WWE. A Last-Minute Offer Meltzer confirmed that previous reports about Kross not having a new deal were likely accurate at the time. However, the situation has now changed, with an offer being made as the deadline approaches. "I was told the story about him not being signed to a contract. I heard that is legit, but that he did get an offer," Meltzer explained. "I was told he's gotten an offer, and I don't expect him to go anywhere." This last-minute development comes after weeks of intense fan speculation about the duo's future. A Familiar Storyline? Meltzer also suggested that WWE may be intentionally turning Kross's real-life contract negotiation into a storyline. He drew a parallel to the recent situation with R-Truth, whose reported contract non-renewal led to a massive fan outcry before he was brought back in a major angle, revealing the entire situation was a "work." More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match "The amount of distrust that will be there six months from now is gonna be pretty damn high," Meltzer cautioned, noting that repeatedly blurring the lines between real contract news and storylines could impact media credibility. A Career Of Highs and Lows Karrion Kross's WWE journey has been a rollercoaster. He was a dominant, two-time NXT Champion before a disastrous initial main roster call-up saw him stripped of his character and released in 2021. He was brought back by the new creative regime in 2022, but his second main roster run has been marked by inconsistent booking. This inconsistency is what fueled the recent "We Want Kross" fan movement, which led to a higher-profile role for him. Powerful Allies Despite his up-and-down booking, Kross has powerful supporters backstage. He has long been considered a "Triple H guy," and he recently received the strongest possible endorsement from Paul Heyman. On The Ariel Helwani Show, Heyman compared the organic fan support for Kross to the movements that propelled legends like Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk to superstardom. With that level of backing, it seems a new deal was always the likely outcome. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Jordan Spieth Reveals Ryder Cup Tension With Cheeky Keegan Bradley Comment
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Keegan Bradley has spent this season proving he belongs on Team USA, not just as the captain, but potentially as a Ryder Cup player. With a win at the Travelers Championship in June and three top-10 finishes in his last four starts, Bradley currently sits 10th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, just four spots outside the automatic qualification zone. If he finishes strong at next week's BMW Championship, he could lock in a spot. Otherwise, he'll have to decide whether to use one of his six captain's picks on himself. If that happens, Bradley would make him the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. But not everyone is sold on the idea of the U.S. Team captain pulling double duty. Jordan Spieth has bold opinion on Keegan Bradley's Ryder Cup future Spieth, currently ranked 27th in the Ryder Cup standings, joked on 'SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio' that Bradley should step aside as a player to open up a spot. "I keep trying to convince Keegan that, you know, it'd be a lot for him to have to play, too, so he probably should give up that pick, even if he is a top-10 player, top-seven player in the world," Spieth told podcast hosts Carl Paulson and Dennis Paulson. "It just seems like way too much to have to do! So, trying to open up all the opportunities I can, but I can also go take care of business myself." Spieth's comments were lighthearted, but the urgency behind them is real. He's on the outside looking in, with limited chances to make a final impression. (Photo by) More Getty Images "Making the Ryder Cup team was my loftiest goal to start the season," he expressed as posted by @SiriusXMPGATOUR on X. "I was coming in with almost no carryover points from '24, which hurts, and it was unusual for me for a Ryder Cup year. And then obviously skipping the first month of the season and starting late, I just thought, you know, boy, this would be the end goal. And the idea that I have a chance for it is very cool." To earn a captain's pick, Spieth likely needs a deep FedEx Cup Playoff run, possibly all the way to Atlanta and the Tour Championship. A win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week or the BMW Championship next week would help, but knowing he hasn't won in over three years, it can be tough. If we look at the 13-time PGA Tour winner's Ryder Cup record, he's 8-9-5 in 22 matches. That's just short of .500, and Spieth has yet to win a singles match. Still, his leadership and experience could be invaluable at Bethpage Black, where the Ryder Cup is set to take place in late September. "It'd be incredible. I've played in five of 'em. They're the coolest events that you can play in, in a sport. And I'd love to play in another five if I can or more," Spieth expressed during the same podcast. "This one will be special, being at Bethpage. I played the (2019 PGA Championship) really well there (tied for third). And obviously, your Long Island crowd and tri-state area, coming and representing your country there, would be the mecca of what you can do for a home game." As for this week, both Spieth and Bradley teed off Thursday at TPC Southwind for the opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Spieth went off at 8:40 a.m. E.T. alongside Wyndham Clark, while Bradley followed later in the morning. More Golf: Duchess of York Once Flew 1,500 Miles to Impress Tiger Woods, New Book Says
