Recreational park key for Ipoh Sentral project, says Loke
The Transport Minister said it was vital for local folk to experience and benefit from the park first before the project progresses.
Loke said the park was the first phase of the project and expected it to be completed between six to 12 months.
"It is important for local residents to experience the benefits of the project first-hand.
"What is the meaning of the development if the local community cannot feel its impact?," he said in his opening speech during the groundbreaking ceremony of Phase 1 of the Ipoh Sentral project near the Ipoh Railway Station here on Saturday (Aug 16).
"The recreational park is vital as it aligns with the aspirations of the Malaysia Madani concept," he added.
The project, which will be developed behind the railway station, costs about RM6.26bil and will be divided into two phases.
The first phase involves the preservation of a 2.55ha of green space, including landscape upgrades and the recreational park.
The second phase will cover a 24.7ha mixed-use development, which is expected to take about 20 years to complete.
Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Loke said it is the mission of the industry to ensure that Port Klang, already ranked among the world's 10 busiest ports, continues to grow and drive national prosperity. He added that development plans for Carey Island, designated as the country's third port, are underway and are expected to bring additional benefits to the Port Klang community. At the event, Loke also presented the Jalur Gemilang to representatives of logistics and transportation companies in conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations.

PM: RM5bil recovered from graft cases in past year

The Prime Minister said these were recovered from ministries, government agencies and politicians. 'There are taunts and cynicism towards the government's hard stance on fighting corruption. 'But over the past year, we have recovered RM4bil to RM5bil in assets and funds seized from corruption cases across ministries, departments, Immigration, Customs and even politicians. 'This is due to our competence and willingness to take action (against corruption). 'This is also only possible with good governance,' he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the RM6.26bil Ipoh Sentral project. On another matter, the Prime Minister expressed hope to see more developments and projects that are in line with the Madani concept. 'Our nation must always be concerned and compassionate towards the people; otherwise, Madani is nothing more than a slogan. At an event earlier, Anwar reaffirmed that those responsible for the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will be brought to justice but called on parties not to manipulate the case in ways that create negative perceptions. While giving assurance that no individual will be allowed to escape accountability, the Prime Minister said the case, however, should not resort to insulting specific individuals. 'The police are investigating (the matter), and I have made it clear that it doesn't matter who (is involved); they will be investigated,' he said when launching the Madani Dairy Entrepreneurs Carnival yesterday, Bernama reported. The Prime Minister said the government will continue to support initiatives that strengthen the nation's food security, including the dairy industry. Expressing pride in the achievements of local dairy producer Farm Fresh Bhd, he praised the company for its contribution to the dairy sector, job creation for Malaysians and commitment to corporate social responsibility. Anwar also pointed out that Malaysia's close ties with its regional partners, especially within Asean, have opened up broad opportunities for cooperation in various fields, including agriculture and dairy. Ipoh Sentral recreational park prioritised before commercial projects
IPOH: The developer of Ipoh Sentral has been instructed to prioritise completing a recreational park before commencing commercial projects. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook emphasised this as part of the project's first phase, expected within a year. He stated the condition aligns with Malaysia MADANI's goal of ensuring public benefits precede private profits. 'We want developers to prioritise the public first, which is our condition,' Loke said during the groundbreaking ceremony. He stressed the park must open within six to 12 months for locals to enjoy before profit-driven developments proceed. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the event alongside Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. The project integrates rail, bus, and cycling lanes under the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept. Loke highlighted TOD's role in sustainable urban growth under the 13th Malaysia Plan. The government aims to launch 30 TODs in five years, with Ipoh Sentral being the first. Spanning 27 hectares, the RM6.2 billion project will feature a modern transport hub. Phase 1 includes a 6.31-acre green space, while Phase 2 involves mixed development over 20 years. Loke reiterated the importance of public-centric development for Perak's community.
