Kanwariya crushed to death by fellow pilgrims' tractor-trolley in Budaun
The accident occurred near the Butla Board area, where a tractor-trolley ran over a Kanwariya, identified as Ankit Kumar, 14, a resident of Bhuta police station area, in Bareilly.
According to police, Ankit, a resident of Bhagwanpur, under Bhuta police station, had halted with his group while returning with Kanwar from Kachla Ghat. They had parked their tractor-trolley on the roadside, and Ankit was resting in front of the vehicle.
At that moment, another tractor of a different group of Kanwariyas, driven by Lalla Babu, son of Mohanlal, a resident of Dawikhera village, under Nawabganj police station in Bareilly district, came from behind and collided with the parked tractor-trolley.
Due to the collision, the parked trolley rolled forward, and its tyre ran over Ankit, who was resting in front of it, killing him on the spot. Following the incident, members of Ankit's group thrashed driver Lalla Babu and others from his group and set the DJ sound system on fire.
In the aftermath of the clash, more than six Kanwariyas sustained injuries. They were rushed to a medical college for treatment.
Budaun district magistrate Avanish Rai and senior superintendent of police Brijesh Kumar Singh visited the site and inspected the scene of the incident. Ankit's body was sent to the mortuary.
'Police and fire brigade teams reached the location and extinguished the fire. Traffic movement has now resumed normally. Law and order has been restored. The tractor driver is currently in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway,' said deputy superintendent of police Devendra Kumar.
Police officials have launched an investigation into the matter to determine the sequence of events and fix responsibility.

It was filed on Tuesday afternoon at the cyber crime branch at the Delhi police headquarters by Soumendu Adhikari, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Contai and brother of the leader of the Opposition in Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari. The complaint letter said Banerjee should be booked for several offences including 'wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot' and 'cyber terrorism.' On July 27, Banerjee posted a video of a toddler and his mother on social media and alleged that Delhi police physically tortured them during the drive. 'Atrocious!! Terrible!! She posted the video hours after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) launched its year-long 'Bhasa Andolan' (language movement) alleging that police in BJP-ruled states were specifically targeting migrant workers who speak Bengali. Banerjee referred to the video again on Monday while leading a protest in Birbhum district. The video was apparently recorded by a man who pointed at some scars in the child's left ear and forehead. 'Police tortured my wife and one-and-a-half year-old son,' the man could be heard saying in the video. The Delhi police countered the allegation on Monday, calling the charges 'fabricated' and 'politically motivated.' Addressing the media, deputy commissioner of police (East) Abhishek Dhania said: 'Upon inquiry, we identified the woman as Sanjanu Parveen. During questioning, she alleged that on the night of July 26, four men in plain clothes posing as police personnel took her and her child to a secluded spot and demanded ₹25,000, which she claimed to have paid.' The DCP said police investigation, analysis of footage from local security cameras and local intelligence revealed inconsistencies in the woman's statements. 'During sustained questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district in West Bengal, had asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal and later surfaced on social media,' Dhania said. 'This appears to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of Delhi Police through a politically motivated narrative. The matter is still under investigation,' he added. On Tuesday, while Suvendu Adhikari addressed the media in Kolkata and showed a security camera footage recovered by the Delhi police, the chief minister stuck to her allegation while addressing an administrative meeting in Birbhum. 'Driver Fell Asleep...': Locals Recall Bus Crash That Killed 18 Kanwariyas In Deoghar
Last Updated: A bus carrying Kanwar Yatra pilgrims crashed into a gas cylinder truck and roadside bricks near Jamunia Chowk, Bihar-Jharkhand border, killing 18 News18 What began as a spiritual pilgrimage ended in horror on Tuesday morning when a momentary lapse by a bus driver cost 18 lives and left 23 others injured near the Bihar-Jharkhand border. Around 4:30 am, a private bus ferrying Kanwariyas returning from their yatra to Baba Baidyanath temple rammed into a truck carrying gas cylinders near the Jamunia forest area under Mohanpur block in Jharkhand's Deoghar district. The driver, officials say, had dozed off at the wheel. The impact was immediate and catastrophic. The bus driver died on the spot. But the worst wasn't over. With no one at the wheel, the vehicle hurtled on for nearly 500 metres, ultimately smashing into a roadside heap of bricks near Jamunia Chowk. Six more people were killed on the spot, and many others suffered grievous injuries. Eyewitness accounts and police statements suggest that the death toll may still rise. 'Almost everyone in the bus was returning after worshipping… The driver had probably fallen asleep, that's when all this happened," said Ramanuj Yadav, a local resident who witnessed the wreckage and helped with rescue efforts. The bus, a 32-seater, was en route to Basukinath when the collision occurred. The truck it crashed into was transporting highly flammable gas cylinders, heightening the risk and panic at the scene. Fortunately, there was no fire. Inspector General of Dumka Zone Shailendra Kumar Sinha confirmed the details and said investigations are underway. 'A bus carrying Kanwariyas collided with a gas-laden truck. Several of the injured are critical," he noted. Delhi HC to transfer Engineer Rashid's plea to same bench that heard similar case
The Delhi high court on Tuesday said that it would transfer jailed MP Abdul Rashid's petition seeking waiver of travel costs to attend Parliament monsoon session to a bench that had previously heard a similar plea filed by him during the budget session. On March 28, a bench of justices CD Singh (now repatriated to Allahabad high court) and Anup Jairam Bhambani while dealing with Rashid's plea seeking modification of the same condition to attend the budget session, had directed him to deposit ₹4 lakh (approx) as travel expenses with the jail authorities. Now, if the new petition for the monsoon session is to be transferred, a new bench comprising justice Bhambhani and a new judge will have to be constituted, due to repatriation of justice CD Singh to Allahabad high court in April. 'For every session of Parliament, there cannot be a fresh appeal. You had moved a modification application earlier. You should press the modification application before the earlier bench and it will be applicable for all future sessions. Once a division bench has applied its mind and taken a decision, we will follow,' the bench said to Rashid's counsel Vikhyat Oberoi. It added, 'It would be wrong on our part to hear the matter, when a bench has already taken a call on a similar issue.. whatever orders are passed there … we will follow. The issue is the same— on what terms a person can be allowed to attend Parliament.' Even though the court indicated its intention, it adjourned the matter to July 31, due to non availability of senior advocate N Hariharan who had to argue on Rashid's behalf. On July 22, a special NIA court had allowed terror accused Engineer Rashid to attend the Fifth Parliamentary Session in custody for 12 days from July 24 till August 4, subject to him bearing the travel cost, returning to jail in the evening and not having access to cell phones to speak to the press. He had then approached the high court seeking waiver of the travel cost condition asserting that the authorities were demanding ₹1.44 lakhs per day and had already raised a bill of ₹17 lakhs, which was coming in his way for discharging his public duties as an MP. Besides challenging the condition, the jailed MP has also urged the court to permit him to attend the Parliament session in custody on all dates till August 21 or release him on interim bail till August 21. In its affidavit filed on Monday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had opposed the petition saying that 'public duty' cannot act as justification for exempting an accused from bearing travel and related logistics costs, in custody. 'The public duty of the appellant/accused does not negate the requirement on the appellant to bear the reasonable costs for travel and logistical arrangements while in custody. The imposition of the conditions to impose special cost is reasonable and just in the circumstances of this case,' the agency said in its affidavit filed through special public prosecutor Akshai Malik along with advocate Khawar Saleem. The agency, in its 17-page affidavit also stated that Rashid had previously deposited 50% of the costs demanded by the Tihar Jail authorities— ₹4,37,207, to attend the Parliament Budget session on six dates, in custody. Engineer, an Independent MP and president of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2019. The NIA in its charge sheet claimed that the accused people are involved in using illicit funds to fuel unrest and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. NIA also claimed that various terror organisations, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and others, collaborated with Pakistan's ISI to orchestrate attacks on civilians and security forces.
