Uttarakhand STF busts SchoolPad hacking scam, three youths arrested for defrauding parents
The arrested individuals have been identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Rizwan of Mullapur village, Sudama Diwakar of Akashpuram, and Mohammad Faraz of Bankhana. Authorities recovered four mobile phones used in the crime, two bank passbooks, and three SIM cards from their possession.
According to STF officials, the cybercriminals carried out the fraud by creating a sophisticated fake application and sending deceptive messages. The complaint was lodged by the DIS City Campus in July 2023 after it was discovered that the official 'SchoolPad' app had been compromised.
Students and parents began receiving fraudulent messages demanding a fee of Rs 4,990 for an 'AI-enabled Robotics Lab.' The messages appeared so authentic that many parents transferred money to the provided bank accounts.

Punjab launches anti-drone systems to tackle cross-border smuggling
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Saturday deployed three anti-drone systems along the international border to counter the smuggling of drugs and weapons through drones from Pakistan. Mann, who along with AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, unveiled the anti-drone systems in Tarn Taran, said that Punjab is the first state in India to deploy such a system in its border areas. The anti-drone system will be called 'Baaz Akh' (Hawk Eye), the chief minister said, adding that it will be deployed from Pathankot to Fazilka as the second line of defence in the border districts in coordination with the Border Security Force. Mann explained that the second line of defence refers to the deployment of the Punjab Police in border districts, working alongside the BSF stationed at the international border. He emphasised that this initiative marks a significant step for the Punjab government in the fight against the smuggling of drugs and arms across the border. 'In the coming days, we will expand the anti-drone system throughout the state,' he added. Reaffirming his government's commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, Mann said this initiative will play a crucial role in the government's anti-drug drive, Yudh Nasheyan Virudh (war against drugs). To enhance border security and address challenges posed by drone activities from Pakistan, nine anti-drone units are being established along the international border for Rs 51.4 crore, Mann informed, asserting that the anti-drone system will significantly counter the activities of drug smugglers. 'The enemies of the country have turned drones into weapons to harm Punjab's youth, using them to smuggle drugs across the border,' Mann said, praising the security forces for their relentless efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking. He said that in 2024, a total of 283 drones loaded with heroin, weapons, and ammunition were seized, and as of 2025, 137 drones have already been recovered. Expressing confidence that the anti-drone system will assist the security forces in combating the smuggling of drugs and weapons, Mann said it will be deployed at specific border points where high drone activity has been observed. Mann claimed that the Punjab Police did not have any such system to neutralise drones previously. Further informing that the anti-drone system is equipped to accurately detect the drone's position and its ground control stations, the chief minister stated that this system comes with an automated alert technology, which immediately notifies authorities upon detecting drone movement, thus eliminating the need for manual monitoring. To ensure effective implementation, coordination will be maintained with the BSF, the Air Force, the Army, and other relevant agencies, Mann stated. During the launch, Kejriwal stated that another chapter has been added to their fight against drugs. He highlighted the AAP government's efforts to tackle the drug menace while criticising previous governments for their alleged collusion with drug smugglers, which he claimed contributed to the state's drug problems. Announcing that a crackdown against drug trafficking has begun, and the 'big fish' involved in this trade have been rounded up, Kejriwal further claimed that a notorious and feared drug lord has been put behind bars by the Bhagwant Mann government. He mentioned that the Punjab Police is actively taking action against drug smugglers, including demolishing properties acquired through drug trafficking as part of their anti-drug campaign. 'We know that most drugs enter from Pakistan through drones. Today, the Punjab government is implementing the anti-drone system, which will neutralise any drone that crosses into Punjab from Pakistan,' the former Delhi chief minister said. Three anti-drone systems were launched on Saturday, with plans to deploy six more. If necessary, additional systems will be purchased, Kejriwal stated, emphasising the government's commitment to eradicating the drug menace in Punjab.

3 Class VI students of leading Shimla boarding school go missing on Outing Day
Three Class 6 students from one of the oldest and most prestigious boarding schools in Shimla have been missing since Saturday under mysterious circumstances, the police said on Sunday, adding that they registered an FIR under section 137B (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after the school's principal filed a complaint. Sources said the missing students are boys hailing from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, Mohali in Punjab, and Karnal in Haryana and that one of them is a distant relative of a minister in a neighbouring state. The families of the missing students have arrived in Shimla and are accompanying police teams tasked with tracing the boys. According to the police, the boys left the school at around 12.05 pm on Saturday and failed to return by the 5.30 pm deadline, prompting the school authorities to alert the police. 'The missing students were in school uniform and two of them had left their cell phones in their hostel rooms. Collectively, they were carrying around Rs 3,000 when they left. No staff member accompanied them,' a source said. Repeated attempts to contact school representatives went unanswered. A police officer said the boys had gone out on the school's designated 'Outing Day', when students are allowed to leave campus for up to six hours. CCTV footage showed the students leaving the school gate at 12.05 pm, after which no trace of them has been found. 'Apart from the missing boys, many other students also went to Mall Road. While some claimed the missing boys were with them, we have checked CCTV footage from Mall Road and adjoining areas but did not find them,' the officer said. The officer further stated that the school administration had yet to provide any standard operating procedure (SOP) governing how students are allowed to leave the campus on Outing Day. 'We have learned that on several occasions, students have also hired private taxis to travel to different places in and around Shimla,' he added. The New Shimla police have alerted their counterparts in neighbouring districts as well as Punjab and Haryana about the missing students.

NRI booked for wife's suicide in Dubai detained at airport, handed over to police
Agencies The husband of a woman who was found hanging in their Sharjah apartment last month was detained at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Sunday and handed over to police, officials (40), a native of Sasthamcotta in Kollam district, is accused of abetting the suicide of his wife, Athulya (29), who was found hanging under suspicious circumstances on July 19, police said. An officer from Valiyathura police station said a lookout notice had been issued against Satheesh. He was detained by immigration officials upon arrival and handed over to local police. "We have detained him at the station and will hand him over to the Crime Branch, which is investigating the case," the officer said. Satheesh's lawyer told reporters that his client returned from Sharjah after the Kollam Principal and Sessions Court granted him anticipatory bail. Under the bail conditions, he can only be arrested by the Crime Branch and must be released upon furnishing a bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties for the same lawyer said the court's decision was based on Athulya's death certificate, which recorded the cause of death as "suicide by hanging." Following a complaint by Athulya's parents, Chavara Thekkumbhagam police registered a case against Satheesh under Section 85 (abetment of suicide of a woman), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), Section 103(1) (cruelty by husband or relatives), and Section 118(1) (wrongful restraint or confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition to the FIR, the man allegedly harassed his wife since their marriage in 2014 over "dissatisfaction with the dowry." The complaint alleges that two days before her death, he physically assaulted her, hitting her on the head with a plate and kicking her in the stomach.
