Putellas finds flow state as Spain thump Belgium 6-2
Finding herself in the zone on a wet, blustery evening, Putellas picked up her second straight player of the game award and contributed hugely to Spain overcoming a sloppy start to put the Belgians to the sword.
"I think there are plenty of moments in a game, the team had an excellent performance, and even if we almost always have things we can improve, I believe that team is fine. We feel comfortable, if there's something that doesn't work we can change and adapt," she told reporters.
Putellas opened the scoring with a typical Spanish goal midway through the first half, punctuating an intricate passing move with a powerful strike, and she netted Spain's sixth goal late on to cap a fine individual display.
Asked whether her flow state came from her own performance or from that of the team, Putellas said it was a little bit of both.
"They go hand in hand; as an individual you think about the group and when you feel we are all together, you flow, it makes me feel good of course," she explained. "I have this role of creating options, sometimes I finish them, sometimes others do, (but) I'm feeling great."
Belgium proved a tough nut to crack but Putellas and her team trusted themselves to score, no matter who ended up getting the goals.

Even without the ball, Rytting Kaneryd exerted an outsized influence on the game -- by forcing the Germans to keep a close eye on her, space opened up for her teammates, and her assist for Lina Hurtig's 4-1 goal crowned an unselfish performance. "I don't know if they thought that they needed to keep an eye on me, the feeling is that they started the game extremely strong, we really had a hard time in the first 10 minutes," Rytting Kaneryd explained. Following a bright start, capped with a goal from Jule Brand, Germany were second best for most of the match at Zurich's Letzigrund stadium. Sweden hit back with two goals before Wamser handled on the goal-line in the 31st minute. She was sent off, and Sweden's Fridolina Rolfo scored from the spot. "The red card was decisive in us not coming back," said Wueck. "I think after the penalty, after the 3-1 and one player less on the pitch it was clear that it would be very, very difficult for us to come back against this Swedish team." He had thought Germany might still get chances in the second half. "But the quality of the Swedes is of course almost impossible to combat with one player less," Rolfo said. Germany did not make enough of their first 15-minute spell and struggled with Sweden's counter-attacking, he said. The Swedes scored again in the second half to win 4-1 and top Group C. Blackstenius hits top form as Sweden win Women's Euro group
Sweden's Stina Blackstenius has timed the peak of her goal-scoring form perfectly, netting the winner for her club Arsenal in the recent Champions League final and then scoring against Poland and Germany as her side blazed their way into the quarter-finals at the Women's Euros as Group C winners. The Swedes beat Germany 4-1 to rack up a perfect nine points from their three games, and they will face the runner-up in Group D, which features England, France, Netherlands and Wales, while the Germans will meet the winners of that group. "I'm very happy that I've gained the confidence to play and I am happy with the goal that we got here today, but mainly because of the win today and that we are still in the tournament," a beaming Blackstenius told reporters. Despite playing her club football in England, Blackstenius said she had not thought about who Sweden might meet in the quarter-finals. "I don't want to stand here and say that I prefer any of the teams -- it's an incredibly good team, no matter who we face, so it will be very exciting to see how it ends (in Group D) tomorrow, and then we will continue to prepare ourselves, regardless of which team we play against," she said. The two teams also enjoyed enormous support, with a yellow wall of Swedish fans behind one of the goals that sang and drummed from beginning to end, building a big-game atmosphere. "I enjoy being at championships. It's something extra to experience. There's something with these games that makes it extra special," Blackstenius said. "When I look up at our fans today, I think they're very visible, and it also gives a feeling that we're doing this together.
