‘Handle With Care' statewide trauma-sensitive program to support children with help of law enforcement, educators
KANSAS, Ill. (WCIA) — Law enforcement officers across Illinois are connecting with educators to support children after they may have experienced a traumatic or stressful event outside of the classroom.
Doug Cochran with the Kansas Police Department serves as the law enforcement liaison to bring 'Handle With Care' to police departments and schools across the state. The goal is to support kids and provide extra support when they go to school after challenging, traumatic events.

Riverdale man charged with sexually assaulting, giving alcohol to underage teen, documents say

RIVERDALE, Utah () — A 28-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage teenage girl after giving her alcohol. Kyle Anthony Hird, 28, has been charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16/17-year-old and one misdemeanor charge of knowingly offering alcohol to a minor. According to documents, a juvenile victim contacted police on Feb. 3, 2025. She told officials that someone she knew from work, Hird, had invited her to his residence the night before. There, he gave her alcohol and sexually assaulted her, and she did not consent but 'was too intoxicated to stop' him. Daycare employee charged with sexually abusing children, documents say Using the victim's Snapchat, a Riverdale City Police officer contacted Hird and asked what had happened the night before. Hird allegedly responded that he would only speak about the incident in person, saying, 'Please understand I cannot get in trouble for anything, my kids can't [lose] their dads and s–.' Police located and interviewed Hird regarding what happened. He allegedly denied providing the minor victim with alcohol and said that no sexual contact had happened. However, Hird did acknowledge that he was aware of her age. A search warrant for Hird's DNA was filed and approved. On June 11, 2025, the forensic report from a Code R Kit (used to test for sexual assault) performed on the victim provided 'very strong support' that Hird's DNA was a match. Hird has been booked into the Weber County Jail and is currently being held without bail. East Nashville residents frustrated by recent car burglaries
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Neighbors in East Nashville said they're sick of petty crime in their community. In the last four weeks, there have been more than 80 reports of vehicle break-ins or vehicle thefts in just one portion of East Nashville, according to 'We don't feel safe. We're frustrated,' Yoko Ono said. Within the last two weeks, Ono's car was broken into twice, with the suspects breaking the same window. Parent says crosswalk at East Nashville elementary school is becoming dangerous Neighbors caught the apparent suspects on camera and agreed they looked like young adults or teenagers. 'From 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., it's their witching hour where they get to go out and get crazy because I guess there's nothing better to do in this area,' Victoria Ochoa said. According to Ochoa, community members start to see a spike in crimes like this after schools get out. 'I've lived here almost three years now. We do see an uptick during Christmas, during spring break, during Thanksgiving holiday, and especially summer,' Ochoa said. Now Ochoa and Ono have home surveillance cameras set up, so they're constantly watching the video feed. 'I got cameras literally that day…I got them delivered same day; we put them in that night. Panama City Beach man arrested for attempt to solicit a teenager for sex
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A Panama City Beach man is in the Bay County jail, accused of trying to solicit a teenager for sex. Authorities say 26-year-old Amani Shackur Lawrence contacted what he thought was a 15-year-old girl on a dating site called 'Skip the Games.' Investigators say they chatted about meeting to commit certain sex acts. Crestview substitute teacher charged with lewd and lascivious battery involving a minor However, what Lawrence didn't know was that the person who was allegedly chatting with him was an undercover police officer. Authorities were waiting when Lawrence arrived at the pre-arranged destination. Lawrence is charged with use of an electronic device to seduce a child, traveling to meet a child for sex, and use of a two-way device to commit a felony. He is being held on an $80,000 bond.
