Fantasy football: Here are top late-round ‘fliers' to catch for your draft
Fantasy football can be a messy arena to play in. But planning beforehand can help you ace your draft and pick the right player at the right moment. Here's a look at six late-round 'fliers' that should be grabbed in drafts, as listed by ESPN: File photo of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (AP) Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys Ever since he suffered a compound ankle fracture and dislocation in 2020, Dak Prescott has had a rough couple of years. He still managed to finish seventh or better in 2021 and 2023, with an average of 20 fantasy points per game in each campaign. He finished outside of the top 18 fantasy QBs in 2022 and 2024, but had to end his season early in Week 9 following a torn hamstring. The player still holds the ability to bounce back, as shown by his throwing 4,516 yards (QB3) with Brian Schottenheimer. Jordan Mason, RB, Minnesota Vikings With an average of 5.2 yards per carry last season, ranking sixth among running backs, at least 100 carries, and a top-five fantasy producer at the position in three of his first four games as the 49ers' starter last season, Jordan Mason is quite the option to consider. He managed to remain healthy and touch the ball over 300 times in the 2024 season. Trey Benson, RB, Arizona Cardinals Despite suffering a knee injury in Week 16 last season, Trey Benson's compact frame, high speed, and sturdy hands make him a favorite selection among fantasy football managers. As one of the highest-upside backups at the position, Benson is likely to play a larger role in his second campaign, as previously stated by Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon. Marvin Mims Jr., WR, Denver Broncos There's no doubt that adding Marvin Mims Jr to your roster helps give a presumptive No. 2 WR on an ascending offense. With an average of 5.2 targets per contest from Weeks 12-18 (up from 1.9 over the first 11 weeks of 2024), Mims recorded two 100-yard receiving efforts and five TDs during the Broncos' final six games last season. Kyle Williams, WR, New England Patriots With an average of 17.1 yards per reception and 14 scores as a Cougar in 2024, Kyle Williams is the Washington State product who caught the football world's attention after posting a 4.4 40-yard dash time at the combine at the Super Bowl. Brenton Strange, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars Brenton Strange's moment in the spotlight came after Evan Engram was forced to take a backseat due to his repeated maladies. Previously selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft, he now posts a 40-411-2 stat line. A complementary pass-catcher, Strange's blocking abilities keep him on the field and make him a crucial figure. With contribution from Stuti Gupta

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta cleared of alleged betting breaches by FA
West Ham United's Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been cleared of four alleged breaches of betting rules after an independent Regulatory Commission hearing, the Football Association said on Thursday. Last year, the 27-year-old was charged with deliberately seeking to receive a booking during four Premier League games between November 2022 to August 2023 against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth. The FA said it was alleged that Paqueta sought to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of, or occurrence in those matches by deliberately trying to get booked to manipulate the betting market for the benefit of others. 'Paqueta denied the charges against him, and a Regulatory Commission found them to be not proven following a hearing,' the FA said in a statement. The Brazilian has been charged with two breaches in relation to alleged failures to comply with his obligations to answer questions and provide information to the FA investigation. Paqueta, who was facing the risk of a lifetime ban, denied the alleged spot-fixing charges and expressed frustration over media coverage of the matter, which he said was misleading. 'Since the first day of this investigation, I have maintained my innocence against these extremely serious accusations,' Paqueta said in a statement on Thursday. 'I would like to express how grateful I am to God and how eager I am to return to playing football with a smile on my face. To my wife, to West Ham United, to the fans who always cheered me on, and to my family, friends and the legal team who have supported me, thank you.' The FA began their investigation of the alleged betting breaches in August 2023. In October last year, Paqueta urged the FA to investigate how information from its case against him had been leaked to the media. 'We are pleased Lucas has been cleared … as a club we have resolutely stood by him and supported him throughout the process,' West Ham Vice-Chair Karren Brady said. 'Despite the incredible pressure on him, Lucas has performed week in and week out for the club, always giving everything. It has been a difficult time for Lucas and his family, but he has remained absolutely professional throughout.' West Ham, who struggled to a disappointing 14th-place finish last season, begin their 2025–26 Premier League campaign at promoted Sunderland on August 16.

Vinicius Junior: ‘I want to leave a legacy that goes beyond football'
Amidst a period of flux, soft speculations of a transfer out Real Madrid under new manager, star forward Vinicius Junior says he is solely focused on the next season and how he wants to leave a legacy beyond the grass, green baize. He tells GQ in an interview: 'I've already achieved a lot, but my dreams are far from over. I want to win more trophies with my club, win the biggest competitions with the national team, and continue inspiring the next generation to believe in themselves. My biggest dream is to leave a legacy that goes beyond football, especially with all the work I'm doing through my foundation to improve the education system in Brazil.' The 25-year-old was raised in Sao Goncalo, a crammed and nondescript neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. Crime and poverty are bedfellows. 'I don't even know where to start. It was so far away that it seemed impossible to get here. I was a kid who only played football barefoot on the streets of São Gonçalo, close to poverty and crime. Getting here is something very important to me,' he had once said. So he wants to be a role model for millions of aspiring footballers from remote nooks of the world. 'I take the responsibility of being a role model very seriously. Being a role model is about setting the right example. I try to stay focused, humble, and remember where I come from. Ultimately, I want to show people that, with hard work and respect, anything is possible,' he said. 'Playing at this level, for the biggest club in the world and for my national team, still feels like a dream. I know my journey inspires others, especially kids coming from where I'm from. And knowing that my story can motivate someone to pursue their own dreams means the world to me. Representing my team, my country, and my family on the biggest stages is something I'll never take for granted,' he said. His biggest inspiration, he says, are his parents. '(My parents) are my greatest inspiration. They worked so hard to give me the opportunities I have today. Their dedication, love, and sacrifice are what drive me forward every day. Everything I do is to make them proud,' he said. In sports, his idols range from Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James to Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. 'Cristiano Ronaldo has also inspired me with his incredible work and dedication; he never stops striving to be the best. LeBron James for the same reasons, but also for what he's done for his community, proving that greatness goes beyond performance. And, of course, Brazilian legends like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Neymar, who represent so much to the Brazilian people and to Brazilian football. They've shown the world the talent and joy we bring to the game,' he revealed. The move to Real Madrid, he says, has been his defining moment of his career. He has worn the most famous shirt in club football 206 times and scored 61 goals, won everything from league title to Champions League. 'I think there have been many defining moments [in my career]. My professional debut with Flamengo, the move to Real Madrid, and then some unforgettable memories in the biggest competitions, like scoring in two Champions League finals. Each one of them has shaped who I am as a player and as a person,' he said. But he keeps himself grounded. '[Celebrating success] is very important. Success is never achieved alone. In football, we all motivate each other to improve, and celebrating each other's achievements helps build a positive and supportive environment. It's about respect and recognising the effort everyone puts in, even if they're on a different team or in a different industry.'
