: One person was killed and eight rescued of the 10 fishermen who went missing at sea in three different incidents on Thursday and Friday. A search is going on for one person, said police.
Meanwhile, labour minister V Sivankutty visited the families of the fishermen and promised them all support on Saturday. District collector Anu Kumari and Thiruvananthapuram corporation deputy mayor P K Raju were with the minister.
In the first accident, which took place around 4.30pm on Thursday, a fishing boat with five men on board capsized approximately two nautical miles off Vizhinjam coast. Of the five, Muthappan, Pushpadas and Rajin swam back to shore, while Stellas and Antony went missing.
On Friday morning, Antony's body washed ashore near Poovar Pozhikara, and a search is still on for Stellas.
In the second and third incidents on Friday, two boats —Sahayamatha and Fathimamatha— each with four men on board got stranded in the turbulent sea.
On Saturday morning, the fishermen on Sahayamatha contacted their family members using a mobile phone and shared their location. Indian Coast Guard rescued Robinson, 55, Yesudas, 52, Dasan, 48, and Davidson, 34.
Their boat was also brought to the shore.
Meanwhile, the four fishermen onboard Fathimamatha, Muthappan, 48, Joseph, 45, John, 48, and Mathyas, 50, were rescued by fishermen from Colachel in Tamil Nadu. They are expected to reach Vizhinjam via road early on Sunday morning.
"The boats lost control and drifted waywardly in the strong winds. Meanwhile, their fuel ran out, and one of them contacted family members using a mobile phone. The others were rescued by Tamil Nadu fishermen," said Vizhinjam coastal police.

Kerala HC orders arrest of third sister ship of sunken vessel

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday ordered the conditional arrest of Liberian-flagged ship MV MSC Palermo for securing claims related to losses incurred after its sister vessel, MSC Elsa 3, sank off the Kochi coast on May 25, Live Law reported. MV MSC Palermo is currently anchored at the Vizhinjam port in Thiruvananthapuram. The petitioners had claimed that their fishing vessels were damaged by the floating debris of MSC Elsa 3. The court ordered the conditional arrest of MV MSC Palermo till security of Rs 2.6 crore is deposited, according to Live Law. MSC ELSA 3 was on its way from Vizhinjam to Kochi and carrying 640 containers, including 13 hazardous cargo and 12 calcium carbide containers, when it sank 'reportedly due to flooding in one of the holds', the Indian Coast Guard had said. On June 18, the court had issued a similar order detaining MV MSC Polo II in a suit filed by Sans Cashew India Private Limited, which claimed that its consignment worth Rs 74 lakh was lost due to the sinking. This came four days after the court on June 13 ordered the detention of another vessel, MSC Manasa F, that is also operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company following petitions from five other cargo owners who also lost shipments in the incident. The order secured nearly Rs 6 crore as a conditional deposit for the release of the ship. On May 29, the Kerala government declared the wreckage of MSC ELSA 3 a state-specific disaster.

Coast Guard officer's ID card stolen

Kolkata: A case of theft of the identity card of an Indian Coast Guard officer was registered at the Parnashree Police Station by the deputy commandant and administrative officer of an Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS). The theft reportedly occurred around 4 pm on July 30, when the officer exited Cochin Shipyard Ltd's Kolkata Ship Repair Unit after undergoing check at the gate. It was on reaching his official accommodation at Parnasree Palli that he realised his card was missing. With Independence Day next week, the Coast Guard is wary of any breach of security, using the ID card, which grants access to high-security defence installations and other restricted facilities. Pak fishing net buoy found washed ashore at Korlai beach in Raigad after six days of search operation

Navi Mumbai: A Pakistani fishing net buoy that had detached and drifted in the Arabian sea about five months ago and had disappeared after being spotted by the Indian Coast Guard on July 6 has been found washed ashore at Korlai beach in Murud taluka, Raigad district on Friday. Anchal Dalal, Raigad Superintendent of Police said, "The Pakistani boat's fishing net buoy was being searched for the past six days by multiple security agencies along Revdanda, Alibaug, Murud, Korlai and Mandwa beaches. Bomb detector devices were used to search for the buoy along the coastline. On Friday, the buoy was found washed ashore at Korlai beach. The GPS tracking system in the buoy would get activated in sunlight and the GPS signalling has been tracked to Pakistan, thus confirming that the buoy was of a Pakistani fishing boat to keep the fishing net afloat and the GRP tracker in the buoy is meant for tracking fishing activities. However, the buoy got detached during navigation and drifted and reached the sea in Raigad." While the Raigad police were searching for the Pakistani buoy, it was found that about 287 fishing boats in Raigad district were unauthorized. The police had sought details of the owners of more than 3,500 fishing boats in Raigad district. Out of them 2,800 fishing boats were found to be registered. The owners of 637 boats were not found, informed Raigad police. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai
