Tony Awards 2025 behind-the-scenes: George Clooney chats with Oprah while Keanu Reeves and Glenn Close reunite

Daily Maila day ago

The 2025 Tony Awards lit up screens across the world on Sunday - but it was the drama behind the scenes that really set tongues wagging.
On a night where Nicole Scherzinger and Darren Cris s won theater's biggest awards, snubbed nominee George Clooney was seen having a deep chat with superstar Oprah Winfrey.
The Oscar winner, 64, who has returned to his signature silver locks, looked somber during the intense chat, as Oprah, 70, clutched onto his hand and put on an animated display.
By their side a serious Gayle King, 70 was seen intently listening.
Elsewhere Keanu Reeves and Glenn Close enjoyed a Dangerous Liaisons reunion, 37 years after starring in the iconic film.
The pair looked in great spirits as they chatted in the green room, with Close, 78, looking chic in black.
Reeves, 60, looked dapper as ever in a black suit.
A sobbing Nicole Scherzinger accepted her first ever Broadway honor at the star-studded 78th Annual Tony Awards, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday.
The Pussycat Dolls singer, 46, teared up after winning the Best Leading Actress in a Musical award, for her performance of fading Hollywood star Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, based on the 1950 film noir of the same name by Billy Wilder.
In her acceptance speech Nicole thanked her fiancé Thom Evans, 'who believes in me when I forget to believe in myself.'
Darren Criss, 38, won big, earning his first Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in Maybe Happy Ending, written by Will Aronson and Hue Park.
The play — which explores themes of love, loneliness, and mortality and follows two 'Helperbots', robots designed to assist people, named Oliver and Claire — also won the top honor for Best Musical.
Meanwhile George Clooney, 64 — who was nominated for Good Night, And Good Luck — was shockingly snubbed, when he lost the Best Actor in a Play award to Cole Escola, 38. The star, who uses they/them pronouns, won for their performance in Oh, Mary! which they wrote and star in.

The show, hosted by Cynthia Erivo, celebrated Broadway's brightest talents in singing, acting, dancing and more.
In the Best Leading Actor in a Musical category, Criss beat out Andrew Durand for Dead Outlaw, Tom Francis for Sunset Boulevard, Jonathan Groff for Just in Time, Jeremy Jordan for Floyd Collins, and James Monroe Iglehart for A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical.
In his acceptance speech, Criss gave a shout out to Helen J. Shen.
Sarah Snook, 37, kicked off the show, winning the Best Leading Actress in a Play award for her unbelievable performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray, where she played all 26 characters, including Dorian and Lord Henry.
The Succession star made her Broadway debut in the ambitious stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel, directed and written by Kipp Williams.
Snook beat out a strong lineup of nominees including Laura Donnelly for The Hills of California, acting legend Mia Farrow for The Roommate, LaTanya Richardson Jackson for Purpose, and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink for John Proctor Is the Villain.

Glen Powell's ex blames Sydney Sweeney cheating rumours for their split saying ‘I hope they're in love'

GLEN Powell's ex Gigi Paris has broken her silence on their split more than two years after their relationship ended. Actor Glen, 36, and model Gigi, 32, broke up after three years together in 2023 amid rumors of a romance between him and his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney. 3 3 3 Speaking to Emma Klipstein on the Too Much podcast, Gigi - while not naming her ex or 27-year-old Sydney - slammed Glen for failing to put the fan speculation to bed at the time. She said: 'It was just, this is what I have to do for my job. 'I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, 'Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she okay with this? What the f***?' 'Or stand up for myself and say, 'No, I'm actually not okay with this, and I'm walking away.' So that's what I decided to do… I was shattered.' Both Glen and Sydney, who at the time was engaged to Jonathan Davino, have denied anything happened between them and actually admitted to playing on the rumors to ensure maximum publicity for the movie. Glen previously told the New York Times: 'That's people wanting what's on the screen, off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully.' Now Gigi has slammed her ex for refusing to deny the continuous speculation. She said: 'Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, 'No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn't do that.' 'That's all that needed to be said. And that wasn't said ... Never once. "It was serving them for their PR. Later on, it turned out that it was all, I don't know if there was a relationship there or not, but then they came out to say it was all a PR scheme at the expense of our relationship. Like, it was just crazy.' And she admitted at the time she hoped Glen and Sydney would end up together so her break-up wasn't for nothing. She added: 'I honestly hoped that they'd end up together, because I was like, at least it would make it worth it for me, you know? I hope they are in love or whatnot.'

‘Why delete this?': Fans in awe of Sinners cut scene

A deleted scene from Ryan Coogler 's film Sinners, which debuted in April 2025, has been released and is generating strong reactions online. The scene features Delroy Lindo performing a song at the piano in a split diopter shot, with other characters watching admiringly. Fans have expressed disappointment that the scene was cut from the original film, praising the performance and the framing. Ryan Coogler, who had final say on the movie, also negotiated a deal with Warner Bros to own the film after 25 years, allowing him to receive royalties. The physical release of Sinners is set for July 8 and will include several bonus features, with the film being celebrated for its cast performances and blues soundtrack set in the Jim Crow era.

Love Island USA fans spot ‘adult toy' in the background of bedroom scene and ask ‘are y'all seeing this?'

LOVE Island USA fans think they've spotted an 'adult toy' in the background of one bedroom scene. Peacock subscribers made double takes after noticing the phallic-looking object on a nightstand in the shared bedroom. 4 4 And it appeared to belong to Olandria, 27, who is coupled up with Taylor, 24. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, viewers shared their suspicions as they watched on in surprise. One asked: "Y'all seeing this?" while another said: "Yo, what's this wild shit I'm staring at?" A third joked: "Somebody please tell me wtf I'm lookin at." But others hinted it could be a pillow or water bottle instead of the X-rated object. Fans were previously left stunned after spotting what they believed was a woman's IUD on the floor of the villa garden. The dating show returned this week, with Ariana Madix on hand to introduce the islanders to their new home. On day three of the show, the new gang of sexy singles got to know each other better with a game of State Your Case – with briefcases revealing the baggage each islander has. As the swimsuit wearing contestants headed onto the garden, eagle-eyed fans caught what appeared to be an IUD laying on the wooden floor. Sharing a screengrab of the moment, they quickly took to social media, with one post on Reddit declaring: "Is that not an IUD? At 40:39. I saw a FB comment about it and I'm dying" Maura Higgins reveals Love Island USA return - just hours after being 'replaced' by new Aftersun host "How did you even clock this😂😂😂😂 y'all are too observant," said one. While another speculated: "That's why they removed the preview for next episode 🤣🤣" "Omg you are wild for finding this, the internet never fails to amaze me 😝❤️," noted a third. "Well i guess we'll know who's it is if a little islander pops out in 9 months," joked a fourth. However, others were quick to note that an IUD – which is typically inserted into woman as a form of birth control – was unlikely. Instead, they noted it was likely part of a flower, which confused fans last year thanks to their stems branching out into a T shape similar to that of an IUD. "No no no it's funnier as an IUD," one responded, while another noted: "Yes it's funnier but rumors are awful." Love Island USA airs nightly on Peacock. 4
