‘SIX the Musical' hits the stage Wednesday night
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — SIX the Musical is on its North American Tour, and the cast is stopping in Sioux Falls this week. Gaby Albo is playing Anne Boleyn in the retold story of Henry VIII and his wives. 'I think it's a masterpiece of how it was so smartly written to merge this very real, old story. And bring it to a very modern, contemporary, concert-like, female empowering show and celebrating our own uniqueness. I think it's all very fresh and very smartly put together,' said Gaby Albo, who plays Anne Boleyn in SIX. Jamie Smith to make announcement Saturday As for her character, Albo says everyone has a different twist on how she's played. 'I think I have a very, like, unique, unique take on Anne Boleyn. They always let us choose our queenspirations, how we call them in rehearsals. And my queenspiration would be if Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande had a daughter. I think that would be my Boleyn. It doesn't have to be the same queenspiration as one of my understudies, for example,' said Albo. Although the Washington Pavilion has hosted Broadway shows before, SIX is one of the newest shows to hit their stage. 'So, SIX is really a pretty brand new musical. And really, it's still in New York on Broadway. And so it was one we were really excited to get to this market, because it's so, pretty new out in the traveling world. And so, yeah, we're excited to have it here. And it's why it's here for kind of a longer run than some of the other typical Broadway shows you'll see,' said Kerri DeGraff, COO of the Washington Pavilion. And if you're still not sold on buying tickets, take it from the director of sales, who just saw SIX on Broadway- and plans to see it twice this weekend. 'This musical is a reality TV style competition between the six queens to decide who had it the worst, like whose life was truly the hardest. And so we get to hear their stories from their perspective in song. So it's rock, it's pop, it's musical theater, and it's just a spectacle. It is incredible. Both have a million to-do/see things but New York gets an edge with a direct flight from Delhi with a flight time of nearly 15 hours; getting to Las Vegas can be tedious - 22-hour flight time + the long layover. The long frosty winter is a New York nightmare, Las Vegas stays mostly sunny. If New York has a quirky Museum of Sex, Las Vegas has a graveyard for neon signs. Tips: • There'll be a lot of walking, wear comfortable shoes. • Stay hydrated, the desert climate can be very tiring. • Tipping at restaurants is an unsaid rule. • It is illegal for taxis to stop on the strip, so don't try flagging one down. • When booking hotel rooms, ask about resort fee that is added to the the initial room price. These fees range from $20-$50 per day so check the mandatory fee before booking. • Jaywalking is illegal and dangerous in Las Vegas. Don't. • Be careful of your belongings in crowded areas. • Do not use ATMs inside casinos, they charge an additional fee of up to $8 per transaction. • Don't fall for free-show tickets. Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster went from friends to lovers. Reports of their relationship first surfaced in late 2024, and they have since been spotted showing plenty of PDA after confirming their romance in January 2025. The Greatest Showman star and Younger actress, however, have been acquainted for years. The duo documented their encounter backstage with a photo. Dance the night away In 2014, Jackman and Foster shared a dance at the Tony Awards. At the time, the Wolverine star, who hosted the ceremony, waltzed with the actress throughout the audience while introducing the category for best performance by a leading actress in a musical. He also danced with the other nominees. Foster gushed over the moment via Instagram the following day, writing 'This happened.' Broadway buddies Jackman and Foster were announced as the leads of The Music Man in 2019. In November 2021, the X-Men star shared a behind-the-scenes look at the production via Instagram with a video from rehearsals. 'We're coming your way Broadway. And here's a sneak at what we're packing,' he captioned the clip. Jackman and Foster made their onstage debut together that December for previews. They later beamed widely while walking the red carpet together for opening night in February 2022. The Broadway stars performed a number from the show at the 75th Tony Awards in June 2022. While they were nominated respectively for best actor and best actress, they didn't secure a win. Jackman and Foster wrapped up the musical in January 2023. R espective separations Jackman and Foster separated from their respective partners within a year of each other. The Deadpool & Wolverine star and Deborra-Lee Furness announced they were parting ways after 27 years of marriage in September 2023. 'We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,' they wrote in a statement. 'Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.' Furness filed for divorce from Jackman on May 23, 2025. The exes share two adopted children: Oscar and Ava. In October 2024, Foster filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin ahead of their 10th wedding anniversary, Page Six exclusively reported. They share an adopted child. Head over heels Around the time of Foster's divorce from Griffin, an insider told Page Six that she and Jackman were together. 'They are 100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together,' the source shared. Multiple insiders explained the two were keeping their romance out of the public eye, but claimed their relationship was 'common knowledge.' Affair rumours Rumours of Jackman and Foster had engaged in an affair gained traction in November 2024 when a friend of Furness spoke out. Actress Amanda de Cadenet claimed the rumours were 'on point' in the comments of an Instagram post. 'My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment FYI!' de Cadenet added. Yesterday, Furness addressed her split from Jackman and 'the traumatic journey of betrayal' in a statement to the Daily Mail. She called the divorce 'a profound wound that cuts deep.' Hard launch Foster and Jackman took their romance public in January 2025 when they were spotted holding hands in Santa Monica, California. That same month, photos surfaced of the lovebirds making out in an In-N-Out drive-thru while in San Fernando, California. The former co-stars were seen laughing and kissing in a Range Rover. Sirens call from stage It's Tonys time soon. June 8. More exciting news than the bulletins at Newark. I haven't been this moved since Sutton Foster told me in 2022 that she'd been picked to work with Hugh Jackman in Broadway's 'The Music Man.' Not knowing him so well before, she was therefore very excited. Now 2025, getting divorced from his wife of decades. New lady friend — Sutton Foster. The first Tonys were 1947. At the Waldorf Astoria, which may reopen when the Statue of Liberty goes co-op. Tickets, $7. Now Radio City. Price? $795 plus whatever's an $8 venue fee. The first winners? Arthur Miller, Ingrid Bergman, Agnes de Mille, Helen Hayes. 1947 was a good year. Its aging musicals of that time still get rejuiced — 'Oklahoma!,' 'Brigadoon,' 'High Button Shoes.' The hotshot drama later that year: 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' with Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter, Jessica Tandy, Karl Malden. It was names like Orson Welles, Ethel Merman, Victor Moore, William Gaxton, Ray Bolger, Arthur Godfrey, Walter Huston, Bert Lahr, Lillian Gish, Dorothy Gish, Basil Rathbone, Uta Hagen, Anthony Quinn, Katharine Cornell, John Gielgud, James Mason, Bobby Clark, Maurice Evans and Tallulah Bankhead — all became biggies. In a cornball musical about growing corn. The title was 'Shucked.' He won. Where is he now, what's he doing, why isn't he starring someplace in some musky theater? Is this the power of the famous fabulous Antoinette Perry Award? That after you sweat and strain and slave and worry and borrow a shmatta and rent jewels and rehearse your speech and try not to flop lumbering up the stairs — you end up the following year — where? It brings you nothing? Borscht? I know he's working. He's done concerts. He's done a movie. But is he on a Broadway stage right now grabbing another Antoinette Perry Award? No. Talent has its difficulties. Michelangelo spent four years daubing the Sistine Chapel. He didn't mind because he was union. What bugged him was that the Vatican then asked for a second coat. Capitol Centre launches new season
The Capitol Centre has launched its upcoming season with performances and exhibits to suit all tastes. Hundreds filed into the theatre on the evening of May 27 to see what was on offer for the 2025 – 2026 season. Katina Connolly, the Capitol Centre's Executive Director, along with Dan Misturada, Director of Programming and Events, presented the upcoming shows at the Betty Speers Theatre, and Jennifer Allison, Gallery Director and Curator, detailed the art exhibits on deck at the WKP Kennedy Gallery. There are some big names on the performance roster, including Howie Mandel, Jann Arden, the Sam Roberts Band, and Tom Morello, perhaps best known as being a founding member of Rage Against the Machine. Natalie McMaster and Donnell Leahy, the Grand Shanghai Circus, and Broadway star Jeremy Jordan round out the Hot Ticket Series. Misturada told BayToday, 'We were looking for a balanced season that has something for everyone, and we really tried to focus on Canadian content. We felt that this year more than ever, we really wanted to support local Canadian artists to make sure they had platforms because we know how difficult it is for them to travel back and forth between the States and here.' 'That was a really big focus for us.' There is much Canadian talent on tap, aptly named the Oh Canada! Series. Bedouin Soundclash, Tenille Townes, and Maple Blues Revue will all take the stage. Northern Strum, Pretty Archie, and Crown Lands are also set to perform. At the WKP Kennedy Gallery, Allison has put together a variety of exhibitions throughout the season. Currently on display to launch the season, is Pattern / Perspective: A Survey of Work by Lizz Aston. Also on exhibit is 100 Years, 100 Perspectives, a show designed to honour North Bay's 100 anniversary. 'This is an exciting exhibition line-up,' Allison said of the new season. 'We have a lot of community focused shows, in line with the Centennial anniversary. We also have a lot of group exhibitions where the community can take part.' Misturada acknowledged the Capitol Centre holds a special place in the community's heart, and within the hearts of many musicians and artists who have graced the stage. 'We seem to have really held a place in their hearts. When they come here, they know that they can count on the North Bay hospitality, they're treated well here by staff and the community, so they really want to come back.'
