Carmel firefighter shows off his piano skills after false alarm at senior living facility
Earlier this week, the Carmel Fire Department responded to a call at a senior living facility. They determined it was just an alarm issue with no threat to any of the residents.
Crews were standing by, waiting for building maintenance to arrive, when one firefighter decided to take a seat at the piano and play a tune.
Part of the moment was caught on video and shared to their Facebook page. The video has now received 13,000 likes and over 950,000 views. The firefighter in the video is Micah Abbott, the Carmel Fire Department confirmed.
"Firefighter Micah Abbott has proudly served with the Carmel Fire Department for nearly 6 years. Prior to joining the department, he worked as a deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office," Tim Griffin, public information officer for the Carmel Fire Department said.
"After the department had responded to an alarm at a nursing home/assisted living facility, Micah noticed the piano and decided to sit down and play a tune," Griffin said in an email to IndyStar. "As seen at the end of the clip, he realizes he's being filmed and laughs, saying, 'Oh boy.' It was a spontaneous and lighthearted moment that perfectly captures his fun-loving personality."
Abbott began taking piano lessons at age 8 and continued through age 15.
'While I've lost much of the technical skill I developed in my youth, I still remember enough to play a handful of classical and contemporary pieces from memory," Abbott said. "I enjoy playing at home for my wife and kids, who are currently taking lessons themselves.'
He has been married to his wife, Lauren, for 14 years, and they have two children—Lucas and Arianna.
Playing the piano is not Abbott's only talent. He is also the Carmel Fire Department's reigning four-time chili cook-off champion.

"Unfortunately, we only caught the tail end of this magical little moment, but you know we had to share it," the Carmel Fire Department wrote on Facebook. "It's these small, human moments that remind us, behind the badge, we're all just people, here to serve and connect with our community."

TAIPEI, June 12 — A Singaporean woman has been sentenced to six months in jail in Taiwan for stalking and harassing Golden Melody Award-winning singer Olivia Tsao Ya-wen, after her obsession with the star escalated into threats and public confrontation. According to The Straits Times, Cassandra Low, a woman in her 30s, was found guilty by the New Taipei District Court of endangering the personal safety of Tsao, and of offences including stalking, harassment and public insult. The court's verdict, published on June 5, followed months of troubling behaviour that forced the singer and her agent to leave their homes. Low, described in court documents as a long-time fan of Tsao, began contacting the singer via personal emails and messages on Facebook and Instagram from November 2023. However, her behaviour took a dark turn after she was blocked on social media by Tsao. According to the judgment, Low reacted by posting threats and abuse directed at the singer, her family, and her agent. In one Facebook post, she wrote: 'I can be very aggressive. The more stubborn she is... don't blame me for whatever I do to her parents.' In another, she said: 'Blocking me, see how I slowly let her agent die.' The online threats eventually drove both Tsao and her agent to leave their residences in New Taipei City out of fear for their safety. The situation intensified in February when Low followed Tsao to Banqiao high-speed rail station after learning the singer was travelling. She grabbed Tsao's luggage and phone in an attempt to pressure her into restoring contact. In a video recorded by Tsao, Low is seen physically blocking her and demanding a reconciliation until police intervened. The court sentenced Low to six months in prison. She may choose to pay a commuted fine of NT$1,000 (S$43) per day of her sentence, but the court noted that her high salary as a Singaporean — reportedly more than twice that of a typical Taiwanese worker — meant a financial penalty alone would not reflect the severity of her actions. Low will be deported once she serves her sentence or pays the full fine. Tsao, 38, responded to the verdict in a June 11 post on social media, saying: 'This is the most comforting piece of news I have received recently,' and thanked her supporters and legal team for their help. Rating: A rumor that circulated online beginning in late May 2025 claimed actor and comedian Eddie Murphy testified at rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex-trafficking trial. Users primarily spread this matter through the sharing of videos. Those videos claimed Murphy told the court at Combs' New York trial that Combs forced Murphy into engaging in sexual activity with him, and that Murphy said, "I left Hollywood because of 'Diddy.'" However, Murphy didn't testify at Combs' trial. Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no news media outlets credibly reporting that Murphy testified at the trial or made any such statements regarding sexual activity or leaving Hollywood. The rumor amounted to nothing more than attempts by online creators to earn advertising revenue. Those creators executed their plans by asking artificial-intelligence (AI) tools to create videos and inauthentic thumbnail images promoting the false rumor. Snopes contacted by email representatives for Murphy to request comment regarding the fabricated rumor, included about Murphy's alleged statements, and will update this story if we receive more information. For example, on June 8, 2025, a manager of the Undisclosed Realms YouTube channel posted a video (archived) displaying the title, "Eddie Murphy SHOCKS Court 'I Left Hollywood Because of Diddy!'" The creator of the clip labeled its content in the description as "comedic satire." As of this writing, the video received over 236,000 views. The video's thumbnail image featured an AI-generated, split-screen view, showing Combs in an orange jumpsuit alongside Murphy, both seated in front of microphones. The chyron read, "Diddy ruined my career." The video showed authentic visuals. At the same time, the clip also featured AI-generated editing, scripting and voice narration, meaning all its creator needed to do to make the entire clip was enter a brief text prompt into one of many different AI tools. The AI-detection website Sightengine found a 99.9 percent likelihood of someone generating the thumbnail image with AI. The narrator's voice matched that of the AI-generated "Bill" on the ElevenLabs AI company's website. Snopes added the red line due to the thumbnail image's inauthenticity. (Undisclosed Realms/YouTube) Days earlier, on June 1, a manager of the Red Carpet Rumors Facebook page posted a video with the title, "1 MINUTE AGO: Eddie Murphy Testifies, 'I Left Hollywood Because of Diddy." That video, also generated with AI, received over 4 million views, and featured the description, "In a stunning courtroom revelation, comedy legend Eddie Murphy has reportedly taken the stand and confessed the real reason he vanished from Hollywood for years — and it all leads back to Sean 'Diddy' Combs. With the world watching, Eddie declared, 'I left Hollywood because of Diddy,' sending shockwaves through the courtroom and beyond." The video's AI-generated thumbnail image showed a split-screen view of a tearful Murphy crying in court next to Combs, again wearing an orange jumpsuit. A fake photo displayed between the pair showed Murphy and Combs shirtless in a bed. The chyron referenced "breaking news" and a purported Murphy quote saying that Combs forced him into engaging in oral sex. The text read, "He made me suck it." Snopes also added the red line in this thumbnail image. (Red Carpet Rumors/Facebook) Other users shared this same false rumor far and wide on Facebook (archived), Threads (archived), TikTok (archived) and X (archived), as well as on many different YouTube channels. A Google search result also displayed a popular TikTok video with at least 162,000 views from user @ displaying the title, "P2. 1 MINUTE AGO: Eddie Murphy Testifies, 'I Left Hollywood Because of Diddy.'" As of this writing, an attempt to access the video showed the message, "Video currently unavailable." Additionally, at least one X post (archived) from May 31 linked to a removed YouTube video displaying the title, "1 MINUTE AGO: Eddie Murphy Testifies, 'I Left Hollywood Because of Diddy.'" Upon attempting to access the video (archived), YouTube showed the message, "This video has been removed for violating YouTube's Terms of Service." In other words, this false rumor about Murphy and Combs originated in May, most likely with a label about fictional content, as opposed to satire. While Murphy did not testify at Combs' trial, his name did receive a brief, albeit minor, mention. Referencing Combs' ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, NewsNation reported of Murphy and actor Bruce Willis: While reviewing text messages Ventura sent Combs in court, the defense team noted she asked the hip-hop mogul if they could have more than a sexual relationship, pointing to both Willis and Murphy as examples where they successfully co-parented with the mothers of their children. Ventura had expressed a desire to be in Combs' children's lives after he split with Kim Porter, and Combs' defense team was attempting to show that Ventura was jealous of the time Combs spent with the mother of three of his kids. For further reading, previous fact checks examined similar rumors about other celebrities allegedly testifying against Combs, including musician Usher and actor Jim Carrey. Ananda Lewis, Former MTV VJ and Talk Show Host, Dies at 52
Ananda Lewis has died at the age of 52. The former MTV VJ's sister Lakshmi announced news of her death in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, June 11. "She's free, and in His heavenly arms," she wrote, alongside a series of broken heart emojis and a black and white portrait of Lewis. "Lord, rest her soul 🙏🏽" Lewis became well known in 1997 when she was hired to be one of MTV's VJs, hosting shows like Total Request Live and Hot Zone. In 1999, The New York Times dubbed her 'the hip-hop generation's reigning It Girl.' She left MTV in 2001 to host her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show. Lewis revealed in a 2020 Instagram post that she had been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer. She said that she had not been getting regular mammograms because of her fear of radiation. In October 2024, Lewis took part in a roundtable discussion with CNN's Stephanie Elam (her friend from college) and CNN anchor Sara Sidner in which she revealed that she went against medical advice and did not have a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed. Her tumor had metastasized, and her cancer had progressed to stage IV, she shared. 'My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made,' Lewis said. 'I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way. . . . I wish I could go back. It's important for me to admit where I went wrong with this.' Lewis was born in Los Angeles in 1973. Her parents divorced when she was 2, and she and her sister, Lakshmi, moved with her mother to live with their grandmother in San Diego. In 1999, Lewis opened up to Teen People about her difficult relationship with her mother as a child and teenager. 'Mom was overwhelmed from the get-go, devastated by the divorce and working hard to support two kids,' she said. But Lewis felt neglected and 'built up a lot of resentment toward her.' 'By the time I was 10, I'd become a belligerent, rebellious kid, and my mother and I were fighting about everything,' she explained. She attended an arts high school and spent her time in school plays and volunteering. After graduating from Howard University in 1995, she landed a job as the host of BET's Teen Summit, which filmed in D.C. In one episode, she interviewed then First Lady Hillary Clinton. 'That experience got me noticed at MTV and in August of 1997, I moved to New York and started working there,' she told Teen People. Months earlier, in December 1996, she had reconciled with her mother after a period of estrangement. 'I decided to close the chapter on being hateful and resentful toward my mom and open a new one that focused on love, forgiveness and appreciation for her,' she explained. Lewis became one of MTV's most popular hosts. ''In the past, our talent was sometimes just pretty people who could read cue cards,'' Bob Kusbit, then MTV's senior vice president for production told The New York Times in 1999 about her talents. ''But when we brought Ananda to MTV, we decided we were going to do a lot more live television, and I was first and foremost interested in her ability to do live TV.'' Lewis interviewed celebrities including Destiny's Child, Brandy, NSYNC, Britney Spears and many more. She also ended up covering heavier topics for the network, including violence in schools and the 2001 death of Aaliyah, who was her close friend. In 2000, PEOPLE named Lewis one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World. She also made frequent appearances at celebrity events. Even Prince was a vocal fan; he told The New York Times, 'Ananda is Cleopatra. You know she's a queen.' Lewis left her MTV role in 2001 and began hosting her eponymous talk show. "I wanted a change," she told Teen People at the time. "It was a matter of proving to myself that I can do [this]." The series — which premiered Sept. 10, 2001 — lasted one season. Reflecting on the series to Shondaland, Lewis said, 'I wish I had stopped the people that wanted me to do the [talk] show and said, 'Not yet, it's a little too early to do this.' It was overkill for me.' She said she wasn't happy with the show, explaining, 'It wasn't what I felt like I signed up for.' Lewis took a break from television and later appeared as a host on The Insider, a spin-off of Entertainment Tonight. She also appeared on the reality series Celebrity Mole: Yucatán and hosted A&E's America's Top Dog and TLC's While You Were Out. Lewis also became a contractor and carpenter.
