Germany's private sector kept growing in July, a sign of resilience in the face of Donald Trump's intensifying tariff threats and optimism over the government's spending push.
While S&P Global's Composite Purchasing Managers' Index for Europe's largest economy slipped to 50.3 from 50.4 in June, it remained above the 50 threshold separating expansion from contraction, data Thursday showed. Analysts had expected a reading of 50.7.

AwardFares Launches Intelligent New Alert System for Award Flight Availability

STOCKHOLM, August 05, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AwardFares, the leading search platform for award flights, today launched a major upgrade to its alert system, giving users smarter tools to discover and book award availability faster. The new system includes two powerful features: Flex Alerts and Live Alerts. Together, they provide both flexibility and precision, helping travelers maximize their points and miles like never before. Flex Alerts are designed for the flexible traveler. Instead of requiring an exact route and date, users can set broad criteria such as "any airport in the US to Europe for an entire month." AwardFares' AI-powered system intelligently identifies matching availability, focusing not just on high-demand routes but also on high-value redemptions and new opportunities based on industry trends, fare dynamics, and user behavior patterns. For travelers with a specific plan, Live Alerts offer precision monitoring. This enhanced version of the platform's original alert feature allows users to target exact flights and routes. A key improvement is the ability to monitor multiple airports and extended date ranges within a single alert, making it easier and more efficient to track down must-have award seats for a specific trip. This launch reaffirms AwardFares' role as a product-driven leader in the industry. The company has a track record of introducing user-centric features that set new standards, including live availability checks, interactive seat maps, and its exclusive onboard menu and wine list feature. "Our users loved setting alerts for specific routes and dates, and it worked wonderfully. But we are obsessed with user experience and saw an opportunity to take it further," says Philip, Co-Founder at AwardFares. "To truly maximize your points, you often need to broaden your perspective. An alert that's too specific might cause you to miss an incredible Business Class deal from a neighboring city or one with a simple connection. With the new Flex Alerts, we provide a broader perspective on award availability, highlighting opportunities users might never have discovered on their own. When combined with our precision Live Alerts, travelers can build a powerful strategy to capitalize on these great opportunities." Continued Platform Expansion Demonstrating its commitment to providing the most comprehensive search tool on the market, AwardFares highlighted the addition of several new loyalty programs throughout the year and plans to integrate more partners in the coming months. This expansion will focus on key strategic areas, including broadening its coverage within the Avios ecosystem and adding new airline programs based in Latin America. Underscoring this commitment to global accessibility, AwardFares is also the only award search tool available in Spanish, uniquely positioning it to serve travelers throughout the Spanish-speaking world. How to Access The new Live and Flex Alerts are available today for AwardFares Gold and Diamond members. Born from the founders' frustration with existing tools, AwardFares offers a fast and user-friendly interface that enables travelers to search across multiple frequent flyer programs and airline alliances simultaneously. Diageo forecasts flat annual sales growth, raises cost-savings target

(Reuters) -Diageo, the world's biggest spirits maker, forecast on Tuesday fiscal 2026 organic sales growth to be similar to fiscal 2025 including the impact of U.S. tariffs, and raised its cost-savings target to about $625 million. The maker of Johnnie Walker whisky and Smirnoff vodka is looking for a new chief and finance head to turn around its financial and share performance, and guide it through a plan announced in May to cut $500 million in costs and make substantial asset sales by 2028. "Macroeconomic uncertainty and the resulting pressure on consumers continues to weigh on the spirits sector," Diageo said in its first set of results under interim CEO Nik Jhangiani. Diageo said it expects organic sales to fall slightly in the first half of 2026, with growth more weighted towards the second half. Continental Q2 tyre margins hit by tariffs, currency headwinds

(Reuters) -German car parts supplier Continental reported a slightly lower than expected second-quarter profit margin at its core tyres business on Tuesday, citing headwinds related to U.S. import tariffs and foreign exchange rates. The company said its adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) margin rose 12% in the April-June period, down from 14.7% a year ago, compared to a company-compiled consensus of 12.5%. In June, the firm cut its profitability targets for both its core tyre business and the broader group. Continental is in the process of splitting off two of its three businesses, seeking to reposition itself as a pure-play tyre maker that it hopes will leave it better placed to handle a volatile market rattled by tariffs imposed by the United States. The automotive division generated profit margin of 4%, higher than 3.8% expected by analysts, thanks to cost-cutting measures and sustained price adjustments, the company said, adding it showed a positive momentum ahead of its listing on stock exchange on September 18. "We've worked hard to make our group sectors more resilient and more agile," CEO Nikolai Setzer said in a statement.
