Police nab Segamat Peeping Tom, find 16,000 images of women in his phone
SEGAMAT: A man in his 20s has been detained for allegedly spying on and recording a woman in the toilet of a restaurant in Bandar Putra, here on May 4.
District police chief, Superintendent Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the suspect is believed to have used his mobile phone to film the victim at about 10.38pm.
"The woman noticed suspicious movement and then spotted a phone pointed towards her while in the toilet.
She immediately exited and lodged a report," Zamry said.
Police arrested the suspect on May 9 and found about 16,000 images of women stored in his mobile phone.
Also found were two videos believed to have been recorded secretly when his alleged female victims were using the toilets.
Zambry said the case is being investigated under Sections 377D and 292 of the Penal Code for gross indecency and possession of obscene materials.
He also advised the public to remain vigilant in public spaces and report any suspicious activity to the police.

RM193,000 gone: Woman pensioner falls victim to phone scam
CHUKAI: A pensioner was poorer by RM193,000 after falling victim to a phone scam syndicate. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said on May 25, a 63-year-old woman (victim) received a phone call from a suspect impersonating an agent from Takaful Malaysia. He said the suspect claimed the victim had filed a false insurance claim, which could lead to her being fined and imprisoned. 'The first suspect then connected the call to another suspect who pretended to be a police officer. 'The suspect asked the victim to provide her bank card details and the security password for her savings account for verification purposes. The panicked victim complied with the suspect's instructions out of fear of being imprisoned,' he said in a statement today. However, Mohd Razi said that on June 8, the victim was shocked to discover that her savings had been reduced by RM193,000. On checking, the victim found that 20 money transfer transactions had been made to four unknown bank accounts between May 29 and June 8. 'Police advise the public to first verify the phone numbers used by suspects through the 'Semak Mule' online application provided by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department. 'The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,' he added.

Norjuma fined RM4,800 for damaging condominium boom gate, CCTV
KUALA LUMPUR: Former television personality Norjuma Habib Mohamed was fined RM4,800 by the Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to two counts of mischief by damaging a boom gate and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at a condominium, two years ago. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan meted out the punishment after Norjuma, 45, changed her plea to guilty today and ordered her to serve five months in prison if she failed to pay the fine. Norjuma paid the fine. She was charged with committing mischief by damaging a boom gate and the CCTV belonging to the Sastra U-Thant Condominium, Wangsa Maju here at 7.44 pm and 7.45 pm on July 28, 2023, causing a total loss of RM4,700. The charges were framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum prison sentence of one year and a maximum of five years or a fine or both, if convicted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence, considering the losses incurred by the condominium. However, lawyer Faiz Kamal Jaafar, representing Norjuma, requested a fine instead, on the grounds that his client's unemployment and remorse. 'My client is currently pursuing her studies at a local higher education institution (IPT) and is financially supported by her father, a government pensioner,' he stated.
