The popular 1990s cartoon "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" infamously ended on a huge cliffhanger. Now, thirty years after the show's conclusion, Marvel Comics is finally resolving that story with the limited series "Spider-Man '94".
First look at #SpiderMan '94.
A 4-issue comic series that will follow up from the cliffhanger of the '90s Spider-Man animated series.

The artist of "Spider-Man '94" is Jim Towe, while the writer is J.M. DeMattei,s who not only worked on "Spider-Man: The Animated Series," but is the author of numerous classic Marvel tales, including Spidey's own "Kraven's Last Hunt".

"Spider-Man: The Animated Series" ends with Mary Jane Watson stranded in another reality and Spider-Man searching for her. This will presumably be the first thing "Spider-Man '94" needs to address.
According to IGN, the official description of the series is as follows: "After searching to the ends of the Multiverse, PETER PARKER – the AMAZING, the SPECTACULAR, the RADIOACTIVE Web-Head himself – A.K.A. SPIDER-MAN, swings back into the streets of New York City with his beloved Mary Jane WATSON in tow!"
"But what's this? One of these villains is not like the others: Witness this universe's debut of not one, but TWO of Spider-Man's greatest villains from the comics!"
"Legendary Spider-Scribe J.M. DeMATTEIS and rising star artist JIM TOWE bring you the return you've all been waiting thirty years for! And you're never going to expect the twists and turns ahead for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!"
"Break out your action figures, and post up in front of the TV as we bring you back to the greatest era of animated super hero television in history!"
"The 1990s Spider-Man animated series has become a beloved part of Spidey lore—it was the introduction to Peter Parker and his universe for an entire generation—and I'm delighted to be diving back into that universe," DeMatteis told IGN.
"We're treating this as the next season of the show, which means introducing new villains, new challenges, new adventures for Peter—while doing our best to remain true to the creative spirit that John Semper and Company established with the original show."
While old-school fans of "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" were hoping for an animated series revival along the lines of Disney+'s hit series "X-Men '97", they'll have to settle for the next best thing.
Particularly since Disney+ has moved forward with more seasons of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," a "Spider-Man '94" animated series is unlikely to materialize.
"Spider-Man '94" #1 will be available on September 3, 2025.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The "Spider-Man 4" (aka "Spider-Man: Brand New Day") cast is starting to take shape. The fourth film in the Tom-Holland-led Marvel series has already revealed that series regulars will return for the sequel, including Zendaya's M.J. Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon's Ned Leeds. More news: James Gunn Drops Major News on Which DCU Films Are Releasing Next Joining the series regulars are MCU fan-favorites Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. Also, Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have been cast in mysterious new roles. Now, the "Spider-Man 4" film has just dropped another major casting. Apple TV+ More news: 'Super Troopers 3' Sequel Gets Massive New Update Tramell Tillman, famous for potraying Seth Milchick from "Severance," has now joined the already expansive cast of "Spider-Man 4." Tillman's role has not been revealed, and he joins Sink and Colón-Zayas as the mysterious actors so far. There are a lot of rumors regarding the new film, including the theory that Miles Morales might finally be making his MCU debut. Reports indicated that Kevin Feige stated the Morales character should not emerge in the MCU into the "Spider-Verse" films are finished, but that could be a smokescreen. It could be that the addition of Colón-Zayas and Tillman could play the part of Morales' parents. The character's parents in the comics and "Spider-Verse" films are of African American and Puerto Rican descent, respectively. Marvel is generally great at hiding things, so the studio could be throwing out nuggets of information to throw fans off theories that may or may not be true. Either way, Tillman being added to the cast should be exciting. He exploded with his portrayal of Milchick in "Severance," leading to his landing receiving an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, as well as SAG and Independent Spirit Award nominations. It will be exciting to see who Tillman ends up playing, along with the mysterious roles for the aforementioned actors added to this new sequel. For more comics news, head to Newsweek Comics.

The Identy of Another MCU Hero Reportedly Set To Appear in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Revealed — GeekTyrant

The Marvel rumor mill just dropped another big one. A recent scoop suggests that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature yet another major MCU hero alongside Tom Holland's Peter Parker, Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle, and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. Ever since Sony and Marvel announced the fourth solo Spidey film, fans have been speculating about which heroes and villains could show up. The confirmations of Bernthal's return as The Punisher and Ruffalo as Bruce Banner already made this movie sound stacked, but it looks like the roster isn't done growing. A recent report claimed that "at least one more hero" would appear in the movie, and now we know who that might be, and I wasn't expecting it. Possible SPOILERS ahead: According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Florence Pugh has joined the cast, reprising her role as Yelena Belova. Richtman claims Pugh will shoot her scenes back-to-back with Zendaya's while filming Dune: Part III , which may mean their screen time in Brand New Day will be about the same. If true, this is a very surprising addition since Yelena has had no direct ties to Spider-Man in the MCU so far. Richtman tends to be reliable with these early casting reports, and with Yelena expected to play a huge part in Avengers: Doomsday , her appearance here could serve as setup for what's to come. While some pieces of the puzzle are coming together, plenty of mysteries remain. Sadie Sink's role hasn't been revealed, the film's main villain is still under wraps, and there are rumblings of multiple antagonists. Liza Colón-Zayas is also on board in an undisclosed role, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will return as MJ and Ned, though they're not expected to play major parts this time. Director Destin Daniel Cretton teased what fans can expect during CinemaCon: 'I'm spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We're all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven't really seen before.' Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, 2026. If this Yelena Belova rumor proves true, the movie's lineup just got a lot more interesting. What do you think about Black Widow crossing paths with Spider-Man for the first time?

James Gunn Drops Major News on Which DCU Films Are Releasing Next

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The DCU has kicked off in a big way, as "Superman" rocketed into the world, securing over $600 million at the worldwide box office. Though it might not reach "Man of Steel," it is still a huge success. More news: 'Superman' Creative Fuels David Corenswet Batman Rumor With Latest Comments James Gunn has kicked off his cinematic universe in a big way, and the director and leader of the new DC Universe has dropped some major news about what is next for his grand universe. "Peacemaker" Season 2 is set to debut August 21 on HBO Max, and is said to pick up right after the events of "Superman." Following that series, Gunn dropped a massive update on which film in the DCU is set to follow. James Gunn says the next movies that DC will likely make are 'THE BATMAN: PART 2' and the 'SUPERMAN' follow-up (Source: — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) August 20, 2025 Reports indicated that Gunn was already working on the script for the "Superman" sequel following the first film's release. Also, "The Batman: Part 2" has been coming along nicely, with Matt Reeves turning in a script that Gunn stated was "great." What is interesting about Gunn's new update is that the next films released for the DCU won't particularly have much to do with one another. It has already been established that "The Batman" sequel and its universe exist in the DC Elseworlds continuity, which means it's an entirely different universe than the one "Superman" exists in. Gunn also revealed one of the films in the DCU will be "The Brave and the Bold," which is supposed to introduce a new Batman and his son, Damien Wayne. There have been rumors that Robert Pattinson's Batman could mean David Corenswet's Superman, though the dark and gritty nature of Reeves' Dark Knight universe might not be a good match. Either way, fans can be happy to know the next planned films in Gunn's big DCU will revolve around the most popular DC heroes. For more movie news, head to Newsweek Movies.
