Stay away from Indian waters, fishermen warned

Express Tribune20-07-2025
In light of India's baseless allegations and its recent military defeat against Pakistan, authorities have issued strong advisory to fishermen in Thatta, urging them to exercise extreme caution near the Pakistan-India maritime border.
The official statement warned that given the prevailing hostility, India may resort to deceitful actions, including provocations or false flag operations. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing close to the maritime boundary or crossing into Indian waters, particularly in the disputed creek areas. The advisory highlighted the serious risks of Indian security forces detaining Pakistani fishermen and falsely accusing them of sabotage or terrorism, which could lead to unnecessary diplomatic tensions. Fishermen have been urged to prioritise their safety, avoid the Indian creeks, and refrain from any actions that could endanger their livelihood or well-being.
According to Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) as many as 100 innocent Pakistani fishermen are currently held in Indian jails under allegations of violating maritime boundaries.
These detained fishermen belong to Thatta, Sujawal, Jati, Keti Bunder, and many areas in Karachi.

Pahalgam attack: Indian army claims three suspects killed after firefight in Occupied Kashmir

The Indian army claimed on Monday that it had killed three men after an intense firefight in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to a post by the army on X. The men were suspected to be behind the April 22 attack on tourists in IIOJK that sparked a deadly military conflict with neighbour Pakistan, two Indian TV news channels said. Reuters could not immediately verify the involvement of the men in the attack. On May 7, Indian jets bombed what New Delhi claimed 'terrorist infrastructure' sites across the border. Pakistan said it downed six Indian planes, including at least three Rafale fighters, in the initial clashes. The ceasefire was announced on May 10 after bitter fighting in which both sides used fighter jets, missiles, drones and artillery.

Oil rises on US-EU deal and shorter US deadline for Russia

LONDON: Oil prices rose on Monday after a trade deal between the United States and the European Union and U.S. President Donald Trump's comments saying he would shorten a deadline he had set for Russia to end its war in Ukraine or face severe tariffs. Brent crude futures were up $1.18, or 1.7%, at $69.62 a barrel by 1218 GMT while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was up $1.16, or 1.8%, at $66.32. Trump said he was reducing the 50-day deadline he had given Russia, which was due to end in early September. The trade deal between the U.S. and European Union and a possible extension of the U.S.-China tariff pause are supporting global financial markets and oil prices, IG markets analyst Tony Sycamore said. Sunday's framework trade pact with the EU sets a 15% U.S. import tariff on most EU goods while Trump said it also called for $750 billion of EU purchases of U.S. energy in the coming years. Senior U.S. and Chinese officials meet in Stockholm on Monday to try to extend their tariff truce before an August 12 deadline. The U.S.-EU deal removed another layer of uncertainty and the focus seems to be shifting back towards fundamentals, said PVM analyst Tamas Varga, adding that a strong dollar and falling Indian oil imports have weighed on crude prices. On the supply side, an OPEC+ panel is unlikely to alter existing plans to raise oil output when it meets on Monday, four OPEC+ delegates told Reuters on July 25. ING expects OPEC+ to at least complete the full return of 2.2 million barrels per day of additional voluntary supply cuts by the end of September.
