Muscat Municipal Council reviews employment initiatives
During the meeting, the council reviewed a statement from Khazaen Economic City regarding the used car market.
In its statement, Khazaen Economic City affirmed that the used car market is a practical solution to the problem of random distribution of showrooms, noting that the project will regulate the market thus enabling entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises to function within a conducive commercial environment. The project will also reduce the costs for sellers and consumers, provide qualitative benefits to consumers, improve operational efficiency and attract local and international investments.
The Muscat Municipal Council also reviewed the statement of the National Employment Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at providing job opportunities for citizens.
The council approved the minutes of its previous meeting and the recommendations regarding the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning's statement on the Greater Muscat Structure Plan. The council stressed the importance of ongoing institutional partnerships between relevant entities in the implementation of major strategic projects particularly those related to smart and sustainable city objectives.
The council reviewed the Social Affairs Committee's recommendations regarding the Oman Down Syndrome Association. The council emphasised the importance of continuing integrated institutional work, providing supportive facilities to ensure the stability of services provided and coordinating with relevant authorities to enhance the effectiveness of current programmes and reduce operational burdens that may hamper the continuation of specialised community activities.

MUSCAT: The National Employment Programme has unveiled a second package of services on the 'Khuta Career Guidance Platform,' Oman's first national digital platform dedicated to career counselling. The new package includes a range of smart features aimed at enriching the career guidance journey. These tools are designed to help users shape career paths aligned with both their personal aspirations and the evolving demands of the job market. Among the most notable additions is the 'Study Plan' service, targeted particularly at Grade 10 students. It offers them a structured approach to exploring future academic tracks, allowing them to choose study paths based on their interests, strengths, and university requirements. Another key feature is the 'Entrepreneurial Traits Assessment,' a science-based tool. It enables students to assess their entrepreneurial potential by analysing their behavioural traits and attitudes. The platform also now includes the 'Khuta AI Assistant,' which uses data analytics to suggest career and academic options suited to each user's profile—further personalising the guidance experience. In a significant move towards inclusivity, Khuta has launched the 'Career Interests Assessment for Visually Impaired Individuals'—a first-of-its-kind initiative in Oman. This tool supports visually impaired users in discovering suitable academic and career pathways based on their capabilities and interests. These developments mark a major step forward in strengthening Oman's career guidance ecosystem, offering youth the tools and insights they need to make well-informed decisions about their futures. The initiative also supports Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises the development of a knowledge-based economy and the sustainable growth of the national workforce. The expanded services form part of a broader strategy to equip young Omanis with the skills required for the jobs of tomorrow, support digital transformation, and enable them to respond to economic shifts with confidence. Since its launch, the Khuta platform has signed up for over 26,300 users by the end of June 2025. It currently hosts 861 academic programmes, 263 professional certificates, and 100 training courses—offered through partnerships with platforms such as Coursera—benefiting more than 2,465 young Omanis. Dr Badr Hamood al Kharousi, Advisor and Head of Capacity Building at the National Employment Programme and General Supervisor of the platform, underscored the central role of career guidance in aligning educational outcomes with market requirements. He highlighted Khuta as a successful model of cross-sector collaboration, developed with support from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, government institutions, and private sector partners. The platform's impact has also been recognised internationally. Career guidance platform equips Omani students with new skills
Muscat – The National Employment Programme (NEP) has launched the second phase of services under its national career guidance platform – Khuta – to support students and jobseekers in making informed academic and professional decisions aligned with the country's evolving labour market needs. Khuta is the first national e-platform dedicated to career counselling. The new set of tools introduced in the latest phase includes AI-powered guidance services, personalised planning support and inclusive features for students with disabilities. Among the tools is 'Curriculum Plan', which enables school students – particularly those in Grade 10 – to map their academic paths based on their interests, abilities and higher education entry requirements. Another feature – Entrepreneurial Traits Scale – helps assess students' readiness for entrepreneurship using a model adapted to Oman's context. The platform now also offers 'AI Assistant', which analyses user data and suggests career and academic paths that match their skills and aspirations. A new tool tailored for visually impaired users – Career Interest Scale for the Visually Impaired – is the first of its kind in the sultanate. By the end of June, the platform had attracted more than 26,300 users. MUSCAT: In a major international achievement, the Greater Muscat Structure Plan has won the WAFX Award 2025 in the Smart Cities category and has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Comprehensive Urban Planning category at the upcoming World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Miami, scheduled for November 12–14, 2025. Developed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the plan reflects Oman's bold efforts to shape a sustainable, inclusive and technologically advanced future for its capital — aligning closely with the goals of Oman Vision 2040. The WAFX Awards, introduced on the 10th anniversary of WAF, celebrate future-facing projects that offer practical solutions to global challenges including climate change, digital transformation, urban equity, and smart development.
