Florida Gators legend Tim Tebow named one of top 25 college QBs of last 25 years
In its latest ranking of the 25 best college football quarterbacks of the past 25 years, Sports Illustrated placed Tebow at No. 4 overall–a reminder that few have ever done it better in college football, and no one has ever done it quite like Tebow.
Tebow was the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy, the first player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in a season and the only quarterback in SEC history to rush for more than 50 touchdowns in a career.
By the time he left Gainesville, Tebow owned five NCAA, 14 SEC and 28 UF records.
Tebow's career totals–9,285 passing yards, 88 passing touchdowns, 2,947 rushing yards, 57 rushing touchdowns–read like something out of a video game.
Gator Nation knows that Tebow isn't just one of the best quarterbacks of the last 25 years–he's the program's gold standard. His fiery postgame speeches, his willingness to run through a wall for his team and his dominance on the field defined an ear when Florida football ruled the sport.
Of course, Tebow isn't the only former Gator to make SI's list. Cam Newton checks in at No. 2 after leading the Auburn Tigers to a national championship and winning the Heisman in 2010.
Newton's time in Gainesville was brief–backing up Tebow before transferring–but it's hard not to wonder what might have been had he stayed.
Here is everything SI's Bryan Fischer wrote about Tebow and why he was one of college football's best quarterbacks in the past 25 years.
What SI said about Tebow
"The lefty sandwiched winning two national titles with the Gators with becoming the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy in 2007. He finished his career with a remarkable 145 total touchdowns—his 57 on the ground were more than Herschel Walker had rushing in his career—and spent a decade as the SEC's career leader in passing efficiency before his 170.8 mark was eventually broken. Though Tebow's persona could at times be divisive, there's little questioning his leadership on and off the field that has to be factored into how he played the position."

Notre Dame loses two key players to season-ending injuries -- one calls it a career
The injury bug continues to bite the Fighting Irish A post shared by Kevin (@kbauman18) The injury bug continues to bite Notre Dame. After dealing with key injuries to top players in 2024, the Fighting Irish got more bad news as running back Kedren Young and tight end Kevin Bauman both suffered training camp injuries that will end their seasons -- and in Bauman's case, his football career. Bauman suffered an articular cartilage injury to his left knee and will need surgery. Bauman has had injury troubles throughout his Irish career, fracturing his fibula in 2021, having an ACL injury in 2022, and partially tearing an ACL in 2023. He did play in 14 games in 2024, catching one touchdown pass. Bauman announced his retirement on Instagram following the injury. As for Young, he tore his ACL in his right knee and will also need surgery. Young played in seven games in 2024 and had 116 rushing yards and one touchdown. Kedren Young (right knee, anterior cruciate ligament tear) and Kevin Bauman (left knee, articular cartilage injury) sustained injuries during preseason practice. The injuries will subsequently require surgery and force them to miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.
Even despite likely entering the year as a backup, could 2025 mark the breakout season for Alabama Crimson Tide safety Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.? Kirkpatrick, the son of former Alabama standout cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, enters year two at Alabama this fall as a likely backup at safety, but is still a player who could see a significant amount of action in 2025. However, just how much time could the Alabama legacy end up seeing for the Crimson Tide? Will it come on special teams, or will Kirkpatrick emerge on the Crimson Tide's defense? A potential breakout candidate for the Crimson Tide this season, here is everything you need to know surrounding Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. entering the 2025 campaign. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. player information Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. career stats Kirkpatrick will be entering his second season at Alabama this fall. During his first season a year ago, Kirkpatrick appeared in all 13 games where he made three tackles. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. 2024 stats As mentioned previously, Kirkpatrick's 2024 season at Alabama was his first at the collegiate level, appearing in all 13 games with the Crimson Tide. Over that span, Kirkpatrick had three tackles. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. recruiting ranking According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Kirkpatrick was considered as the nation's No. 861 overall player in the 2024 class, as well as the No. 91 safety nationally. Rated as a three-star recruit, the former in-state product was considered the No. 42 overall player in the state of Alabama out of Gadsden City High School, and committed to the Crimson Tide in Aug. 2023. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. 2025 season outlook When taking a look at Kirkpatrick's potential impact this fall, it's likely a given that the former in-state prospect is a key name on special teams. However, don't be surprised if Kirkpatrick ends up being a key member of Alabama's defensive unit this fall, as the sophomore should be among the Crimson Tide's top backups at safety. Kirkpatrick will likely not start though due to the presence of Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, but similar to fellow backup Zavier Mincey, could certainly push for playing time as the season goes along. Overall, expect Kirkpatrick to take a step forward in 2025, and for the Alabama legacy to potentially emerge later in the year.
