Warriors issue Steph Curry health update after suffering hamstring injury in Timberwolves playoff game

Daily Mail08-05-2025

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will not be playing in Game 2 of the NBA Playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a hamstring injury.
Curry sustained a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring in the game against Minnesota on Tuesday night.
Later reporting revealed that the Warriors expect Curry to be out at least one week - meaning that he'd be sidelined through at least Game 4 of the series.
During Tuesday night's contest, the NBA great was seen moving slowly around the court after holding the back of his left leg in concerning scenes for Warriors fans in the second quarter.
The 37-year-old then left the court looking frustrated and it was promptly announced that he would not be returning, leaving his team facing an anxious wait for further news.
The Warriors simply said that it was a 'left hamstring strain' that was troubling Curry after he left the playoff encounter on Tuesday night.
Curry appeared to sustain the injury after driving for a layup. He favored his left leg after the shot and lifted his arm to signal to the bench that something felt wrong.
'You miss Steph, you miss a lot. You miss a guy that controls the floor, you miss a guy that hits a lot of wild, timely shots,' Shaquille O'Neal said at the halftime interval on TNT's NBA coverage, admitting he is concerned for Curry's future in the game given his age.
'Maybe Curry is starting to break down. He moves a lot for a 37-year-old. This could be crucial. If I'm Golden State, I want to get this game and rest him Game 2.'
The Warriors held a 44-31 lead over the Timberwolves at halftime, with Curry's absence seemingly prompting his Golden State teammates into an attacking response without their star man.
Draymond Green stepped up with two swashbuckling three-pointers, while Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards struggling to get going and only had one-point to his name at halftime.
But if Curry's injury is significant, it would be a huge boost for the Timberwolves even in the result of a loss in Game 1.
Curry left Tuesday night's game with 13 points in 13 minutes in Minnesota.
Warriors eventually on held on for a 99-88 win in the Western Conference semifinals but it's now a case of victory at what cost for Golden State.
Minnesota trailed by as many as 23 points but pulled within single digits in the fourth quarter. A 13-2 run by the Timberwolves cut their deficit to 85-76 with 6:02 remaining.

Referee body cams and enhanced offside detection system tested at Club World Cup

PARIS, June 6 (Reuters) - Referees wearing body cameras and an upgraded offside detection system will be among the headline innovations at this year's Club World Cup in the United States, FIFA said on Friday. For the first time at a FIFA tournament, match officials will wear body cameras, with selected footage broadcast live to audiences. A new, advanced version of semi-automated offside technology — combining Artificial Intelligence, multiple cameras, and ball sensors — will be deployed to speed up decision-making while maintaining VAR oversight for marginal calls. "However, for challenging offside scenarios, the video assistant referee will still validate the information provided by the system before the decision is taken," FIFA said in a statement. The tournament, which expands to 32 teams this year, will serve as a major testing ground for both systems, the governing body said.

Fever coach Stephanie White could miss game vs. Sky

June 6 - Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White missed practice for personal reasons on Friday and her status for Saturday's road game against the Chicago Sky is unclear. White didn't travel with the team on Friday. It's feasible she could travel to Chicago on her own on Saturday. Assistant coach Austin Kelly will serve as head coach Saturday if White misses the game. It is the first season of White's second stint as Indiana's head coach. She led the Fever from 2015-16 and returned after spending the past two seasons coaching the Connecticut Sun. Games between the Fever and Sky have had a charged atmosphere due to the rivalry between Indiana's Caitlin Clark (Iowa) and Chicago's Angel Reese (LSU) that goes back to college. However, Clark will miss Saturday's game with a quadriceps injury. --Field Level Media

BREAKING NEWS Star MLB pitcher's season is over due to Tommy John surgery in devastating diagnosis

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has announced that his ace starting pitcher, who just signed with the team in free agency, will not be appearing again this season. Corbin Burnes, who inked a six-year, $120million contract with the Diamondbacks in the offseason, will undergo Tommy John surgery and end his 2025 campaign, as first reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan. Three days ago, the Diamondbacks put Burnes on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation in his pitching arm. Burnes had been pulled from his start against the Washington Nationals after he gave up a single to CJ Abrams, then gestured to the dugout with his glove, and yelled in frustration. Lovullo told reporters at the time that his pitcher was seeking a second opinion following an MRI. Now, the pitcher will go under the knife to get Tommy John for the first time in his eight-year career in the majors. Burnes was by far the best pitcher among the Diamondbacks starting rotation and his absence could spell a tragic end to Arizona's 2025 season that is only in its infancy. The 30-year-old California native joined the team after starting his career with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles prior to the 2024 season. This year, Burnes led the team in ERA (2.66) and pitching WAR (2.1). He had also given up the fewest hits (49), earned runs (19) and home runs (7) among Arizona's starters.
