French cops probing murder of Brit expat take DNA from mayor and 14 other guests of wine-tasting she attended before she was stabbed to death in Dordogne village
Karen Carter, 65 and a married mother of four, was found dead outside her home in Trémolat, east of Bordeaux, following a night out with friends on April 29.
Just a few hours before her death, she had attended a wine tasting hosted by Jean-François Guerrier, her 75-year-old lover.
In attendance were 15 others, including Eric Chassagne, the mayor of Trémolat.
Chassagne told local media: 'I believe that everyone who may have met Karen during the day and evening of April 29th has been sampled.
'They [the police] want to close off certain lines of enquiry. The idea is to eliminate possibilities and move forward.'
According to local media, investigators are hoping to match at least one person's DNA to samples found on the victim's car.
Karen's case has seen cops interview dozens of people and arrest, and subsqeuently release, two people.
Both Guerrier and neighbour Marie-Laure Autefort, who was said to have been passionately in love with the 75-year-old, were questioned in the days after Karen's body was found.
But both were quickly released without charge.
Karen left the wind-tasting evening at 10pm, and had promised to phone Mr Guerrier when she got home.
Concerned when he heard nothing, Mr Guerrier, a former managing director of Fujitsu Services who worked in Britain at one point, drove to check on her, and found her body sprawled on the driveway of the property she ran as a rental business.
Despite attempts to save her, Ms Carter died from severe blood loss, after being stabbed in the chest, groin, arm and leg, according to an autopsy.
As cops continue to investigate, a village café that may hold the key to finding Karen's killer has since reopened – exactly a month after the savage murder.
The Café Village, where she worked part time behind the bar along with an alleged secret lover, was immediately 'shut indefinitely' following the killing.
Investigators leading the investigation feared that someone who held a grudge against Ms Carter – or 'the new couple' she was forming with Jean-François Guerrier, 74 – may have come to know her at the hugely popular social centre.

Yet – despite the killer not being caught and locals fearing he or she may have 'strong connections' with the café – it was back in business just a few weeks later.
'Regular opening' resumed on May 28th, according to management, with events including pop music concerts and quiz nights.
In December, Ms Carter was filming dancing with Mr Guerrier at the Café Village, to Gloria Gaynor's disco anthem, I Will Survive.
In turn, Ms Carter's 65-year-old husband, Alan Carter, who spends most of his time in South Africa, said he was unaware of their relationship.
He said he knew nothing about it until it was publicly announced by the French authorities, saying he had 'a feeling of complete betrayal.'
Prosecutors believe the murder was a meticulously planned crime, carried out by someone who knew Ms Carter.
He or she lay in wait, they believe, and took care to avoid leaving forensic evidence, before using 'unspeakable violence' against the defenceless Ms Carter, according an investigating source.
'It certainly could have been someone who knew the victim from the Café Village, or a contract killer acting on their behalf,' the source added.
Ms Carter had British and South African nationality, and her husband was at their home in East London, South Africa, at the time of the killing.
He arrived in Trémolat soon afterwards, and visited the scene of the suspected murder, before organising his wife's funeral, which took place in Bergerac earlier this month.
Mr Guerrier has meanwhile declined to speak at length, saying: 'Karen was a lovely lady, but I can't answer any more questions at the moment.'
He confirmed hosting a party at his converted farmhouse, close to the village, just before Ms Carter's death.

A one-year-old toddler was found dead in the back of a hearse and her mother has now been charged with murder. Blessence Pearl was discovered by an employee of West Gadsden Funeral Home in Alabama when he opened the hearse about 11.45am on Saturday. The little girl's mother Terica Pearl, 29, was arrested that evening and booked into the Etowah County Jail without bond at 1.48am, charged with murder. Gadsden Police Lieutenant Dusty Ford initially said Blessence's death was being investigated as a homicide 'until we can prove otherwise'. 'In under 12 hours, the investigation moved from uncertainty to an arrest,' he said. How the child died and how she ended up in the hearse is unclear, but funeral director Dantez Robinson said it was usually left unlocked. Pearl lost her four-week-old daughter Janaiha in a house fire in February 2011 when she was just 15. Reports at the time indicated the blaze began in the room where the baby slept and spread throughout the home. Carlos Blount explained how he found Blessence's body as he spoke at a vigil for the girl on Sunday. 'I got four girls of my own and I know how it feels. I couldn't even work yesterday, because that could have been one of mine, or anybody else's kids,' he said. Other members of Blessence's family mourned her at the vigil, but did not speak publicly. Robinson, who is also the Etowah County chief deputy coroner, explained the series of events that led to the body's discovery. He explained in a video on his social media pages that he returned from the scene of a death about 8pm on Friday and left the hearse unlocked. 'We've never had a problem with people going into our cars at the office. I laid the keys down where the keys go and out the door I went,' he said. Blount arrived about 11.30am and noticed what he thought was a doll in the back of the hearse as he was about to move it into the shed. When he opened the hearse and took a closer look, he discovered to his horror that it was the toddler's body. 'To see that and to see my employee in disbelief, I was lost for words when I put the call out to the police department,' Robinson said. 'It's pathetic. Whoever done this, whoever is behind it, turn yourselves in... We want justice for this baby. Babies do not ask to be here. 'To do this... you're sick in the head. 'I've walked into homes every day, I've walked up to car wreck every day, I walk into suicides throughout the year, I walk into homicides throughout the year, I have seen kids pass away. 'But to see something like this really sent me into another level of shock.' Robinson said he would make sure Blessence got a proper burial. 'Whoever this family is, whoever done this, we're going to bury this baby,' he said. 'We're going to give this baby the proper burial. To have life taken so early, we're going to stand up and bury this baby.'

Syria vows to investigate footage of Sweida hospital killing
DAMASCUS, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Syria's interior ministry said on Monday that it would investigate footage showing men in military fatigues shooting an unarmed man in scrubs at point-blank range in the main hospital in the predominantly Druze city of Sweida last month. Syria's interior ministry said in a written statement that it had seen the "disturbing video" and "condemns and denounces this act in the strongest terms". The statement said the ministry tasked the deputy minister for security affairs "to directly supervise the investigation to ensure the perpetrators are identified and arrested as quickly as possible". The security camera footage, verified by Reuters and by a doctor who witnessed the incident as being filmed inside Sweida National Hospital, shows four men in green military fatigues and one man in a black uniform with the words "Interior Ministry" printed on his back. In the footage, the five security forces stand in front of a group of about two dozen people in hospital scrubs, kneeling or squatting on the floor. One man in scrubs is standing. Two of the men in fatigues grab the standing man and slap him, as if trying to force him to sit. The man in scrubs resists and pulls one of the attackers in a headlock and onto the floor. The other armed men intervene to release their colleague. The man in scrubs is then shot twice while on the floor, first with a rifle by one of the uniformed men and then with a pistol by a second uniformed man. In the footage, which has no sound, the fighters appear to address the rest of the group, then drag the motionless man away by his feet, leaving a streak of blood on the hospital floor. The Syrian defence ministry did not immediately respond to questions from Reuters on the incident. The footage is the latest to emerge of execution-style killings in Sweida, where sectarian bloodshed last month left more than 1,000 people dead, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights. The date on the CCTV footage says the incident took place at about 3:16 p.m. on July 16. Syrian armed forces were deployed to Sweida city on July 15 to quell clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze fighters, but the violence worsened after they entered. A senior doctor in the hospital's orthopaedic department who was in the hospital at the time and witnessed the incident said the security forces had stormed the hospital on July 16. The doctor identified the slain man as Muhammad Bahsas, a civil engineer who had come to the hospital to volunteer. The doctor, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals, said one of the security personnel who had shot Bahsas told the rest of the group: "Anyone who speaks up to us will end up like him." The doctor said the armed men then combed through the hospital for hours, searching for weapons and repeatedly calling the medical staff and volunteers "pigs". The security forces kept medical staff confined to hospital rooms overnight and left the hospital by the morning, the doctor said.

Arrest made in connection with man's death in Aberdeen
An arrest has been made in connection with the death of 25-year-old man who was found injured on a street in Ironside was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after emergency services were called to Skene Street last died last Scotland said a 46-year-old man had now been arrested in connection with his death.
