Hot, humid Wednesday in Philadelphia region as storm chances increase at night. Here's the weather forecast.

From the 60s to a heat advisory in just two days, get ready for major changes around the Philadelphia region. On Wednesday, we're back in the upper 80s, feeling quite hot and steamy with a greater chance for storms, including a chance for an isolated strong to severe storm. Parts of our area are in a level 1 risk for severe weather, so we'll keep our eyes on it. Thursday is a NEXT Weather Alert as a stronger line of storms may push through the Delaware Valley during the afternoon and early evening, bringing lightning, heavy rain and the possibility for severe weather, most notably the risk for strong winds. It's another hot and humid day with highs in the low 90s. Timing for the storms looks to be late afternoon west of Philly, with a majority of our area seeing the impacts during the early evening hours, mainly between 5-9 p.m. CBS News Philadelphia It will be quite an interesting way to end spring as summer officially arrives on Friday, and wouldn't you know it, the pattern starts to shift just in time. Friday looks beautiful, but a heat wave begins this weekend, with highs climbing into the 90s again Saturday. Get ready for the heat, though. Starting this weekend, we will be entering our first heat wave of the year. That means three or more days in a row hitting 90 degrees or higher, and this stretch could keep going into the following week. For some context: Last year's first heat wave ran from June 18 to 23, and the last one hit at the end of July. Both topped out at 98 degrees. Our last 100-plus degree day was on July 7, 2012, when we hit 101 degrees. And the longest heat wave on record? A whopping 12 days back in 1901, including two scorchers over 100 degrees. Because of the heat, we'll also be on NEXT Weather Alert Day for Monday and Tuesday as well, tracking feels-like temps of 100-plus degrees. We could possibly see a 100-plus degree day for the first time in nearly 13 years. Stay with your NEXT Weather Team for the latest. Cause of 25-acre fire in North Mountain Park in Phoenix under investigation

The Phoenix Fire Department is investigating the cause of a brush fire that charred 25 acres of land on June 17 at North Mountain Park near a condominium complex. About 125 firefighters from multiple fire departments battled the blaze for several hours in the triple-digit heat, said Scott Douglas, a captain with the Phoenix Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the fire around noon and found the fire moving up the west side of Shaw Butte about 500 feet from a condominium complex, Douglas said. The condominiums are located on West Sunnyside Drive near 19th Avenue in north Phoenix. The condominium complex was not threatened, and there were no injuries, Douglas said. The fire did not affect several radio and TV antennas on top of Shaw Butte, he said. High winds, excessive heat, low humidity and mountainous terrain made it difficult for fire crews to battle the blaze, Douglas said. Because of the excessive heat, firefighters rotated every 30 minutes to rest and rehydrate and have their vital signs checked, Douglas said. The fire was reported just before noon and was extinguished by about 3 p.m., Douglas said. Lisa Brandt, who lives in the Villas of North Mountain Condominiums, said she went outside to walk her dog at about 12:30 p.m. and saw fire trucks lining Sunnyside Drive. She then saw smoke and flames coming from the side of Shaw Butte, a popular hiking area, not far from the buildings. "There was a lot of smoke and flames," Brandt said. Brandt was worried residents would have to evacuate. But fire officials told her the buildings were not threatened. "I was ready to pack my bag and go," Brandt said. "I'm glad it's over because I was starting to panic." This article originally appeared on Arizona Republic: Fire in North Mountain Park near Phoenix condominiums chars 25 acres

Bonanza Fire prompts evacuation orders in Northern California

Bonanza Fire prompts evacuation orders in Northern California Evacuation orders have been ordered in Northern California after a grass fire spread across at least 80 acres on Tuesday, June 17. The blaze, coined the Bonanza Fire, began in the Shingle Springs area of El Dorado County at around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to Cal Fire. Officials say the fire is only 5% contained as of 6:50 p.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Officials have ordered several areas to flee immediately, the department confirmed. A temporary evacuation center has been organized at the Placerville Library allowing victims to reunite with family, charge their devices and plan next steps, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. More than 1,300 power homes and business were without power in El Dorado County as of Tuesday evening, according to USA TODAY's outage tracker. Little wind in the area indicates that the fire primarily grew from terrain, local station KCRA-TV reported. California fires map Follow along here for the full version of USA TODAY's wildfire map.
