Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu is set for a spell on the sidelines after boss Daniel Farke confirmed the Welshman suffered a knee ligament injury against Everton. Ampadu was on the receiving end of a late tackle from Tim Iroegbunam during his side's 1-0 Premier League win at Elland Road on Monday night and is set to miss Leeds' next three games. 'It's bad news. He will definitely be out injured until at least the international break,' said Farke. 'He's a tough boy and it's a blow for us. Hopefully he's back on the other side of the break. It's not ideal. We don't need to sugarcoat it — Ethan is a big miss.' Ampadu is now also a major doubt for Wales's World Cup qualifier away against Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan on September 4. Noah Okafor has signed from AC Milan for £18million and is set to make his debut Speaking before Leeds travel to Arsenal on Saturday, Farke said new signing Noah Okafor could be in line to make his debut this weekend. The Swiss forward has signed from AC Milan on a four-year contract in a deal worth up to £18million and trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Wednesday afternoon. 'It's at least possible (that he plays). He doesn't need three or four weeks to build up to fitness. Let's see in the next few days and we will make a decision,' said Farke.

Steve Tandy has admitted it was tough to leave Scottish Rugby - but the lure of becoming head coach of Wales was just too strong. Welshman Tandy, 45, spent six years as a key member of Gregor Townsend's backroom staff before it was announced last month that he was heading home after being recruited by the Welsh Rugby Union to take charge of the national team. Gregor has had a major influence on me. We are different people, I have a defence mindset and he had an attack mindset, so that shaped how we were going to defend. 'It opened up my mind and he was massive on getting out of your comfort zone and going to different places. For example, I went to Melbourne Storm and spent a month there, then you go to AFL. He was very much a curious person and always trying to think outside the box, building environments for boys to be themselves. 'The players were incredible to work with and then how Scotland made my family feel, with the support we got. It was tough to leave but that tells you about the excitement of this job. I am a passionate Welshman, I want Wales to be putting in performances that everyone can get behind.' But is that a realistic target given the problems facing the Welsh game at a time when four regions could be cut to two and the talent pool is shallow compared to rival nations? There's not going to be a magic wand or a quick fix and then it all changes, but I do believe in the pathway. Ultimately you want to have ambition. We want to have ambition to meet those targets, but ultimately there's a process to get to that as well. 'We have to build performances incrementally. From campaign to campaign we have to be better and looking at how we can build that performance through the exciting group we've got.' Tandy on his coaching career Tandy won the Pro12 competition in six years at Ospreys but left the Welsh region in 2018. He worked for NSW Waratahs in Australia before moving to Scotland, while Gatland made him defence coach on the British and Irish Lions' 2021 tour of South Africa. 'The one thing that has really driven me from the start is I want to be the best person and the best coach I can possibly be,' Tandy said. 'Did I ever think I'd be a Lions coach? No. Did I ever think I'd coach the Waratahs? No. But I think it's surprising what happens when you have the mindset to be better and to understand as well you have got blind spots and you have got things to work on.' 'My oldest daughter told me, that was a bit worrying,' Tandy said. 'She said 'Zammit's coming home!' And I was like 'Aaaaaargh. Give me the phone!' That was how I found out. It's obviously a great boost for him, the game and the fans. It's great. 'Zammo brings a big effect and excitement by coming back. I think it's great for the game. He's gone away to experience something new, which is class. I'm sure he will be in outstanding physical condition. The more players we have available to represent our country the better. That's exciting and makes our jobs easier. 'It will also make our calls on selection a lot more challenging in terms of selection as we've already got some very good back three players.' Rees-Zammit has said there is a 'a load of interest' in his services but his rugby future remains unclear. Ethan Ampadu injury blow for Leeds
Head coach Daniel Farke confirmed Ampadu has damaged a medial collateral ligament in a knee and will miss Saturday's Premier League game at Arsenal and the following two matches. Ampadu was outstanding in Leeds' opening win against Everton at Elland Road on Monday before being hurt in a second-half challenge from Tim Iroegbunam, which later forced the Wales midfielder off. Farke said: 'It's bad news with him sadly. The next (few) games we have to play without him. 'MCL injury, he will definitely be out until at least the international break. I hope to have him back the other side of the international break. He's pretty quick after injury back on the training pitch. 'He's a tough boy. It's a blow for us, we will miss him in the upcoming games at least and the two upcoming Premier League games and the cup game.' After this weekend's trip to the capital, Leeds play at Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and then face Newcastle at Elland Road a week on Saturday. 🔥 Noah Okafor is Leeds! — Leeds United (@LUFC) August 21, 2025 Farke said Switzerland winger Noah Okafor is in contention for his Leeds debut at the Emirates Stadium after completing his move from AC Milan earlier on Thursday for a fee which could rise to £18million. Okafor, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Serie A champions Napoli, is Leeds' ninth summer signing following promotion to the Premier League. Farke added: 'He has really good pace, he's a really good dribbler, really good on the offensive one-on-one. 'A strong player as well. I don't want to pressure him too much because he's not played one game, so I'll let him deliver before, but from his skills, he has more or less everything to impress, and it's up to him.' Okafor's arrival is expected to end Leeds' interest in Tottenham winger Manor Solomon, who played a starring role for Daniel Farke's Championship-winning side on loan last season. Leeds have now spent around £92million in total on new players since ending their two-year top-flight absence. Farke, who also wants to add a full-back to his squad, said he was still hoping to further boost his attacking options before the transfer window closes on September 1. Okafor, who began his professional career at Basel, scored 34 goals and made 23 assists in 110 appearances for Salzburg before joining AC Milan in a £13.4m deal in July 2023. He scored seven goals and made five assists in two seasons at the Serie A club, which included his four-month loan spell at Napoli, and has 24 caps for Switzerland.
